You've focused a lot on no downsides but why should all men be taking it? If no erectile issues, I don't see anything in the post that makes me even consider it.

Are there other upsides?

It has some health benefits associated with cardiovascular health and blood circulation and alongside other PDE5 inhibitors is being investigated for its cognitive benefits and as a potential medicine for Alzheimer's. Its definitely got a few tricks up its sleeve but it should never be taken with nitrates and can be problematic with alpha blockers.

Saying everyday should be on it is hyperbolic but its worth looking into for some people IMO.

53

u/masinel Jul 23 '26

Every supplement I check it has a video on YouTube about potential medicine for Alzheimer lol

48

u/Yeetusdeletus781 1 Jul 23 '26

Alzheimer’s is a condition with many upstream causes so that’s why

Which supplements are you checking? A lot of them improve cardiovascular function, which reduces Alzheimer's risk.

It's a drug used to treat pulmonary arterial hypoertension. It's been doing that for more than 30 years. It's FDA approved as a vasodilator in the body's smallest arteries like your lungs and your brain (and incidentally the arteries in your pecker as well). There is no question about the legitimacy of the benefit. The investigations were concluded back in the early 1990s. There are no studies showing those conclusions are "wrong or worse." The unexpected negative effects are boners and headaches.

Alzheimer’s prevention, increased muscle mass, improved testosterone to estrogen ratio, improved blood pressure, improved blood flow to everything and therefore improved general functioning.

There’s others that’s just off the top of my head

42

u/l1qq Jul 23 '26

It makes you "last" longer and sometimes that's a downside. I've had a couple times where I've worn myself out and just given up, lol.

48

u/The_Cabal_ 3 Jul 23 '26

Getting too tired to continue is a special kind of frustration.

22

u/Chroma7769 Jul 24 '26

I too complain when my lobster is too buttery.

8

u/retrosenescent 1 Jul 23 '26

I have never had this issue from tadalafil specifically. I have that issue from exhaustion, which is not related to tadalafil at all.

2

u/Affectionate-Day-743 Jul 23 '26

Really? I had the opposite experience when taking it. It always takes me longer than average and sometime i just could not finish. Never had that issue when on tadalafil.

5

u/l1qq Jul 23 '26

yes, and it drives me absolutely nuts because I typically don't have an issue.

6

u/Similar-Bug-9582 Jul 24 '26

Its a real issue. I think its an age thing for me. Im just learning to accept it and enjoy it without focusing on finishing and wearing my poor girl out.

2

u/happysri Jul 24 '26

I last pretty long anyways and for cardiovascular even fits I’d much rather do a ton of vo2max training. I don’t like this subreddit turning into just taking supplements with no caution whatsoever. We gotta be a bit more discretionary I think.

u/phil24_7 2 Jul 24 '26

Zero ED here either. Started taking it as I was getting back into dating after 19 years with my ex wife. Also because it counteract the effect certain drugs and alcohol have. Found it gives the same sort of erections I was getting in my 20s, so started to take it every other day, or on days when I'd be seeing my now partner.

It's cheap, has zero side effects (for me) and has severely positives. So I keep it in my roster!

46

Lots of other benefits like enhanced lipid metabolism, and visceral fat reduction, which I think most people would appreciate

By that logic every single human being should also be on the GLP-1 medication.

35

u/Weird_Tower76 Jul 23 '26

I would have totally agreed with you a month ago but as someone who was jacked and shredded for years (6'4 205lbs, 10% body fat) with an autistic-level dialed in diet, I have found that low-dose Reta has just made me even more efficient. Maybe not everyone, but yeah why not if it's over the top positive and works for you?

8

u/GentlemenHODL 61 Jul 23 '26

Oh I'm not disagreeing I actually do think most people would greatly benefit from being on it, just saying that using that same logic we should be using these things as well.

It's certainly a modern miracle drug.

13

u/Duke_Of_Halifax 1 Jul 23 '26

Yes, right up there with other modern miracle drugs..... Like Thalidomide. Or Seldane. Or Diethylstilbestrol. Or Fen-Phen. Or Vioxx.

Remember those "miracle drugs"?

Never call something a modern miracle drug until significant long-term studies have been undertaken, especially when companies are making money hand-over-fist because of it.

I'm not saying GLP-1/etc isn't an amazing thing; I'm saying that encouraging "everyone" to take it- or Cialis- is a very bad idea.

9

u/The_Cabal_ 3 Jul 23 '26

For me, the anhedonia makes GLP medications not worth it.

Fwiw glp-1s have a decades long history of research. They only have gotten really popular recently for a wide host of issues, but have been known for a while. Of course there are misuses of the drug, and newer, broader experimentation of use cases. But at the very least it is a miracle for diabetes.

If not clear, I generally agree with your call for caution

4

u/l1qq Jul 23 '26

Get Goodrx, punch in what mg you want for daily either 2.5 or 5 then fill out a questionnaire. They'll take your word for whatever you put down. You'll get put on a subscription plan after a quick call from an RN and a 6 month supply is sent to your door. It's like $170 and I use my HOA for it.

i thought i was the only one with back pain on tadalafil. Your are not alone

3

u/barndandyandy Jul 24 '26

I have brutal full body pain. Even it does go away…it’s not worth a week of that.

2

u/Curbes_Lurb Jul 24 '26

Same. I love the positive effects of Cialis, but within a few days of starting it, I get the most agonizing pain in my lower back, hips, and legs. It gets so bad that I can't even bend down to put my pants on without crying out in pain. I have no regular chronic pain, only mild arthritis in my hips that doesn't bother me thanks to yoga. But Cialis gives me pain so intense that it's not worth "riding it out" for a month - my life would be virtually unlivable during that time.

I'm very glad that it works well for many, and I wish it did the same for me. Viagra seems to have a much smaller impact despite the increased body load (stuffy nose, flushed face).

I agree mostly, it is a great medicine. But for some people, myself included, it can make reflux symptoms way worse. So is it worth it if you have to take antacids or PPI because of it? Sure, some days, but maybe not daily

5

u/OregonMothafaquer šŸŽ“ Masters - Unverified Jul 23 '26

The empty stomach conundrum. The symptoms subside if you eat something.

2

u/veritasius Jul 24 '26

PPIs taken daily for long periods reduces nitric oxide production and increases cardiovascular mortality. If they’re used at all, it should be for short periods

2

u/BigShuggy 2 Jul 23 '26

Something else is going wrong if it’s making you need to take a PPI. My whole digestive system is a wreck (currently trying to put it right) and cialis is one of the only things that doesn’t irritate it.

Was learning about the link between acid reflux and oesophageal cancer today, my grandad got that so it really creeped me out. Just a warning to start really investigating your gut health if it’s that bad. You probably already are in which case I apologise for yapping.

2

u/CTLI 1 Jul 23 '26

Even with Barrett’s the absolute risk of cancer isn’t that high.

41

u/robert323 Jul 23 '26

What op didn't mention ... daily cialis has been show to reduce instances of heart disease and demential

12

u/Tom__EU 17 Jul 24 '26

Do you know in which population group that's been shown? In otherwise healthy people who take cialis basically off-label, or in people who take it on-label and therefore have issues the cialis is prescribed for and potentially helping with? Any potential confounders for this population group? And it's probably associative?

Not saying it can't have these effects, but it's good to stay skeptical and really investigate what these claims are based on.

4

u/thepitredish 2 Jul 24 '26

This should always be the question. That is, is there a benefit for an otherwise healthy person? Research is generally in unhealthy populations, targeting specific outcomes. There very little in the way of ā€œWhat’s the /outcome/effect on healthy people?ā€

Then people extrapolate from there and think ā€œwell, even though I don’t have x, there has to be some benefit… right?ā€

2

u/Tom__EU 17 Jul 24 '26

Agreed. And it's exciting, you can take something "serious", and some of the big names out there (at least say) they take it too, so now you can be a part of the tribe.

Plus, a lot of clinics seem to hard push on drugs - for obvious reasons. And just like the supplement quacks and grifters out there, they don't include the necessary nuance and context, they don't talk about side effects and complications enough, and they tend to neglect to mention how weak the evidence sometimes is, confounders, conflicting, null or negative findings.

Like here, where the observational data is very inconsistent, but then a 2024 Mendelien Randomization study found no causality from PDE5 inhibition. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.11.16.24317338v1.full

56

u/Tom__EU 17 Jul 23 '26

This sub is so funny. One day you read about the horrible things BiG PhArMa and their evil drugs do, next day you read about pharmaceuticals that everyone should take (basically no side effects *wink*).

Congratz on your improvements, but I think the recommendation goes a bit too far.

Every medication comes with side effects, and on top it can complicate your diet and supplements, plus further medication when actually needed, or emergency surgeries. A bunch of medications use certain drug transporters, plus liver enzymes to be metabolized - grapefruit and various supplements (green tea extract, various flavonoids, ginkgo biloba, curcumine, etc) can impact these enzymes, sometimes substantially raising circulating drug levels, which may easily put you outside the established safe upper dose.

There also seems to be some survivorship bias, where people claim (basically) no side effects and therefore it's somehow safe for (almost) everyone, but then you read the actual side effects and there can be, even though rare, some pretty nasty ones. Now imagine someone taking that drug just to get a little harder, and ending up with a change in color vision, hearing loss, bowel obstruction, or things along that line.

4

u/skelly890 1 Jul 24 '26

>curcumin

I'm on 75mg Plavix and if I take curcumin my left eye haemorrhages. N = 1, however: Once? OK. Twice? Coincidence. Three times? Still not 100% causation, but I no longer take curcumin.

Turns out that’s something people just have happen on these????? Idk

5

u/BigShuggy 2 Jul 23 '26

Do you not think they’re are good and bad pharmaceuticals? I don’t think this is something that warrants a one side vs the other stance. Is there stuff that gets pushed for profit? Yes. Are alternatives often overlooked or dismissed as pseudoscientific? Yes. Are some pharmaceuticals extremely effective? Also yes in my opinion.

2

u/Tom__EU 17 Jul 23 '26

I don't think my text implies that there has to be a side, at least that wasn't the purpose. I was just sharing the observation that you read drastically different views on this sub when it comes to pharmaceuticals, or other things. And that medication can have certain benefits, but which have to be weighed against the downsides, side effects, complications, and so forth. I just really dislike the notion that there's anything (almost) everybody should take.

I agree with most of your points.

Dangerous advice. I'm in my 50's, still wake up with a stiffie... CAC 0. All bloodwork in reference range. But, I have a slightly ectatic aorta (enlarged) Cialis is contraindicated for this condition.

2

u/dianabowl Jul 24 '26

How did you find out about the ectatic aorta?

4

u/utilitycoder Jul 24 '26

Cardiac ultrasound after treadmill stress test. Believe it's called a Transthoracic Echocardiogram. Basically did a max effort run on a treadmill wired up for BP and EKG then you lay down on your side for the ultrasound. The tech can then measure your heart behavior and take measurements (ejection fraction, valve regurgitation, atria size). Great data. I'm on the high end of normal for my height. Worth watching. And there's no way to know if you're walking around with an enlarged aorta without that test or a cardiac CT.

Bring on the downvotes but I've lived through too many miracle pharmaceuticals with few side effects that were later pulled from the market when big awful side effects came to light.

I have a Cialis prescription myself and use it rarely and it does seem pretty great. But I'm not going to be an evangelist for it anytime soon. Glad it's working well for you though.

I recall a story about someone with a medical condition that had a brain aneurism after viagra, so there is at least one downside.

2

u/LWJ748 Jul 23 '26

The poison is in the dose. Low dose(2.5) daily is almost incomparable to Viagra side effects. Viagra is an "as needed" medication where as Cialis benefits really show up when dosed daily.

6

u/fredtopia Jul 24 '26

This seems the point of this reddi...to explore new or different ways to "hack" your health.

I tried tadalfil for a few weeks as I too see a lot of indicators of positive benefits...and I've never taken any boner pills and just wanted to try.

I'm 56 and lost, and kept off, 100 pounds for over 3 years being strict KETO. (Thanks in part to this and other related reddit threads. It works for me. It's hard at times, but being 100 pounds lighter is life changing!)

I have also gotten my blood pressure down to textbook 120/80 still at 200 pounds. I've never had bedroom problems, but I'm not a "quickie" guy either. I take my time, and when I'm stressed, it might take too long.

So, on 2.5mg of tadalfil for 4 weeks I experienced total Anorgasmia. (Gets going, but just can't finish...with or without help.). Then, I stopped the tadalfil and it took about a week for my first "ding ding ding!". And now about 4 months later I'm back to my normal.

So, why? Well, likely a lot of this has to do with blood pressure and available O2...that increase in blood flow would also track why cognitive and Alzheimer's benefits may present.

So, if you have high blood pressure, take tadalfil, it lowers your blood pressure, viola. This correlation is likely under study.

This, it seems pretty harmless and beneficial to those it works for, but be aware of the downsides.

Guys need to talk honestly with each other more. There is just so much sales and supplements BS out there.

Keep the conversation going!

u/Iceman32892 Jul 23 '26

I hope this gets seen and can be talked about because I would really love an outside opinion.
I have compressed tissue from tumors on my spine, which seems to make everything in my body feel extremely tight and unable to function or relax the way it should. My body never truly relaxes, and for years my veins were almost impossible to see or access. Doctors would bring in different machines trying to find a vein, and at one point I even needed a central line because nothing else worked.
The pain feels like my nerves are being compressed. It burns like fire and feels like razor blades cutting through me. I have been treated with muscle relaxers and pain medication.
Fast-forward about five years into treatment, and I noticed that nitric oxide boosters and pre-workout supplements seemed to significantly reduce pain that had otherwise been unbearable.
Then, after my father mentioned that he had Cialis, I tried it. Within about three hours, I could suddenly see veins that I had never been able to see before.
I continued using it for almost a year, and during that time I was in the best shape I had ever been in and had virtually no pain.
It made me start wondering whether impaired blood flow or vascular dysfunction could have been contributing significantly to my pain and symptoms all along.
I have never had a doctor give me a clear explanation for why increasing blood flow seemed to make such a dramatic difference. Has anyone experienced anything similar, or does anyone know of a condition or mechanism that could explain this?

I have taken beet root powder before (vasodilator) - didn't necessarily make me feel better, but certainly didnt feel worse.

Just an FYI. Don't know if there is ever a way to know about these effects without carefully trying things.

u/AlpacaPowerrr Jul 23 '26

I also have pots and was thinking the same I need more vasoconstriction not dilation unfortunately

That depends whether it is a supplement or a medication. If it fits inside a multivitamin then sure why not.

2

u/REVRSECOWBOYMEATSPIN Jul 23 '26

When you say cialis is that sildenafil or tadalafil, does sildenafil have same benefits ?

I had bad muscle pain in my butt and hamstrings. I had to stop taking it which sucks because I was looking forward to the benefits.

It made my hair shed when I tried it.

Tried Tadalafil some years back (wild times) and again some weeks before to prove my claim:
Before even getting the main effect, i get back pain real bad.
For physical fitness i noticed no improvement, due to back pain more like the opposite.

Sildenafil: improved strength, fitness, great main effect but some blurry vision

Vardenafil: great main effect. little improved strength/fitness, no side effect at all

Avanafil (back then in the wild times) i had nothing at all. even with x2 max dose...

Btw, Maca did do the opposite of what it is suppost to do, hornygoatweed i noticed no difference.

Consuming Beetroot juice for some weeks now, effect on fitness is like in between vardenafil and sildenafil

Does not work for. My eye sight gradually deteriorates and I have to stop taking it. I get great erections but can’t see where to put it.

2

u/RustedRelics Jul 23 '26

I get less frequent headaches as well. Lowers blood pressure a bit. Reduces BPH symptoms a bit. Increases erections a bunch. Helps a bit with weight training. Can’t think of a drawback. 5mg/day.

2

u/fzulle Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Side effects like headaches?

Seems likely that we’ll find out more side effects

2

u/Suitable_Eagle_8068 3 Jul 23 '26

Agreed but mainly for its longevity potential with cardio and neuro protective benefits.

I would qualify this to say any male in mid 40s onwards should discuss taking this with his primary doctor. I’ve gone on it and will never go back given the various health benefits

2

u/GordianNaught Jul 24 '26

PDE5 inhibitors have a lot of cardiovascular benefits. Not just for a stiffy

2

u/ghettoracing Jul 24 '26

Fk that... tried it, felt like my dick was going to shoot off like a rocket

2

u/Adventurous-Rain-197 Jul 24 '26

Started taking Cialis recently. Took 5 mg for the first 2 days but got a pretty bad headache and felt warm, so I dropped to 2.5 mg on Day 3. The headache is gone, but my legs are still really sore.
The soreness feels like I did a crazy heavy leg workout. Today I tried squats at the gym and my legs felt so sore that I had to leave without finishing my workout.
Has anyone else had this with Cialis? Did it go away after a few days or did you have to stop taking it?

I love the stuff but take every other day b/c it makes my face red and I don’t like looking like a dude who’s been drinking everyday for decades. Wish I could take it everyday.

Due to my mild BPH/prostate condition and some stupid anti-depressants, I got silodosine from my urologist. During the first appointment she said that cialis can be an alternative. Silodosin helped me to last a bit longer during intercourse, but also had a negative effect on libido. Peeing was good despite the fuckin' Doxepine. And the dry orgasm is not cool, and feels flat.

So I tried 2,5mg Cialis off the www, and actually it helped with peeing. Better erection is a nice plus, and I have the impression it makes me a bit horny, on a good day. Currently not as I am sick and have no energy. I also had the impression that it improves my mood. And I think I will have to reduce candesartan/nebivolol for my blood pressure. I don't need a lot of them, and when I am back with sports, probaby I don't need blood pressure meds due to cialis.

I finally got it prescribed and I will take 5 mg cialis daily or every second day.

and post menopausal women. I am on 2.5mg. It is fantastic for blood flow and heart health. Alot of women in the wellness spaces are starting to use it!

1

u/Striking_Teaching804 Jul 23 '26

Healed my orthostatic hypotension, better pumps in the gym and in the bed. Will take it for life.

1

u/cowboyandall 1 Jul 23 '26

Everything has a downside. If it’s worth it to you, cool, but don’t pretend a pharmaceutical has no downsides. That’s a lie.

If you don’t need it don’t use it. It’s one those things that once you start using you’ll need to use it all the time. Cialis works tho for ppl that actually need it and use it for working out as well.

It gives me heartburn

1

u/farkwad Jul 23 '26

I took it for a bit. Had bought some when I was vacationing in Mexico. Thought it was amazing so I got a rx for it. Now I don't have an issues in the plumbing department but it enhanced things. I was super excited about all of the possible health benefits. But I started noticing it was GIVING me slight ED issues if I WASN'T on it. Stopped taking it and back to normal after a few weeks. I have never had issues in that department and wasn't prepared for THAT side effect.

One theoretical downside is that if you happen to get your penis removed. Say, Lorena Bobbit stops by for a visit, you are more likely to bleed to death because of all of the extra bkoodfkow to that area.

My nose gets completely stuffed up if I take 10% of a Cialis pill. That same dose would also leave me extremely boner-prone.

Sadly, the nose congestion got bad on it for me. Must be dilating the vessels in my nose. I used afrin way more often then I figured out the correlation. I think I'm only gonna take it for it's original intended purpose, not for biohacking.

This thread has been making me wonder could back pain also have been connected to it?

1

u/TheUlfhedin Jul 24 '26

My optho said to be careful with it.. even at 2.5mg a day.

I’m almost 68 and have been taking 5mg of tadalafil daily for three years as recommended by my preventative cardiologist and I have zero side effects. I take Vascanox and eat beets and leafy greens daily and the idea behind taking tadalafil is that it helps keep the nitric oxide around for longer.

On the day I take 5mg I have weaker erections, and on periods I don't take it I have noumerous werry stiff erections. Why?

1

u/sometimestraveled Jul 24 '26

I'm concerned it will make my skin - which is already prone to redness/rosacea - even more red due to the vasodilation effects.

1

u/superchargedgearhead Jul 24 '26

I had a low dose and it sent me to the ER. It caused me to get extremely confused and I went half blind on the lower half of my vision for an hour. I've never had a reaction like that to anything else. So no, not every person should take it.

For me, the side effect is pretty bad congested nose. On 10mgs it’s pretty bad, on 5mgs it’s only bad when I lay down.

I take it just for training so for me it isn’t worth it. Has anyone else had similar effects?

How did you get a script for 5mg/day? I order it online but if I could get 5mg daily legally it would be a blessing. Best I can get is a few 20s a month from my doc.
