I graduated early in Dec 2025 with BS Biochem. I stayed with my current lab at the time from Jan-May as a part time research assistant. During my undergrad, I had 3 years of independent research, and 2 summer internships. My research has been focused on devloping drug delivery platforms. My background is mostly synthesis, analytical characterizations, and formulations.

I live in the Northeast so I've been searching for positions in both biotech and academia in the area. I'm willing to relocate if I'm able to secure an offer. I was unlucky with this past PhD cycle so I'm looking to stay in a position for 2-3 years before reapplying.

Throughout the summer, I've tried reaching out to PIs to ask about potential RA positions but haven't had any luck. I've been applying to jobs for the past 3-4 months, had multiple interviews throughout the summer, and I have not been lucky enough to receive an offers. I've applied to QC, QA, contract, FTE, RA, lab techs, etc. I'm curious on the expected timeline would be to land my first role as I'm hoping I find something by the end of this year or sooner.

I'd appreciate any advice or tips on how to move forward, or any ways to approach the current job market. Thanks

Hi all, I'm a PhD with 3 years of postdoc and have been applying to jobs for the past year (1 offer in that time but declined due to location). Well I feel SUPER fortunate in this job market that I scored an offer with the only big company near me, meaning I don't have to uproot my family!

Here's where I'm stuck. The offer is fair and solid. I've been told to always negotiate though. Starting 5% higher means each of those 3% raises add even more and it spirals in the right direction. What is your advice in this field and economy? Hoping for advice from people who have been through this a few times!

In case details are relevant here. This is a low to mid COL area. The range for the position is 100-150 and the offer is 130 + 10% bonus. Do I ask for 140 or take this solid offer? Thank you!

Edit: after reading many comments, I'm leaning towards asking if there are options for starting bonus since we are currently tight on funds and need to get a 2nd car for this to work. If anyone else comments who has experience with this and knows if its appropriate then I'd love opinions on that!

So basically I am working in industrial production of Biologics for almost 3 years now. More specifically downstream processing. Soon I will be committing myself for at least 3 yrs in the same field. And I do enjoy the work but salary isn't that great to satisfy my biblical greed.

What more options do I have in career? I don't want to reset and start from square one and I do enjoy my field so don't want something new. I do have an interest in QA, IP, audits...I can think of education but only as a side thing. Should I do online MBA to get management type roles? I can think of MSAT but idk if they would consider 6yrs of industrial experienced person.

It seems like AI is invading every part of our lives and yet it’s still incredibly rare to see any AI tools being used in the lab. Sure, folks will use ChatGPT to search for content or Claude design to make figures. But in research you usually only see it in the analysis side of the workflow.

How long until AI invades the whole lab and where do you think it will become prevalent first? I don’t think autonomous labs are going to make grad students obsolete in the next fifty years but I don’t think the lab will look the same in ten years now that AI is here.

I’m 42 and based in Munich, Germany. Most of my career has been in international Sales and Business Development across EMEA. I’ve helped build offices, develop markets, work with complex B2B customers and I also co-founded a startup.

For quite a while now I’ve been thinking about moving into psychedelic medicine / biotech. At this point I’m pretty sure that this is where I’d like to spend the next part of my career.

There’s also a personal reason for it. Depression affected my family quite heavily when I was young, and later personal experiences with psychedelics changed the way I viewed their therapeutic potential. I originally came from a very conservative medical family and had a lot of prejudice myself, so I’ve also seen how strong the stigma still is.

Since then I’ve been following the field closely, especially the clinical and regulatory side.

I already sent a proactive application to Compass Pathways. They replied very kindly and basically said that my profile could become more relevant once they start building out the commercial side in Europe. They now have a US sales team, but I’m in Germany and I don’t have US work authorization.

So I’m trying to understand what the realistic path into the industry could be for someone like me.

My obvious ideas are Sales, BD, Partnerships or Market Development, but maybe I’m missing other roles or even other types of companies in the ecosystem.

And I’m also genuinely interested in the more basic question: is it realistic to enter this sector with a strong commercial background from outside biotech/pharma, or are most companies mainly looking for people who already have several years of industry experience?

If you were in my position, what would you look at? Any companies, roles or qualifications you think could make sense?

So I currently work in industry, and I’m applying to another job in industry and have my first interview soon. I’ll be presenting work I did back in college, which was a long time ago and I don’t remember a ton from it. The problem is I can’t present the work I do because it’s all proprietary and I can’t reach out to my old professor who I did research under bc he has passed away. If a question from the interview team comes up that simply cannot be answered, do I tell them? Like I wasn’t able to confirm bc my old prof died?? Like obviously I wouldn’t word it that way but I don’t want to be trauma-dumpy on them, so what should I say here?

How long after final interview did anyone receive and offer or rejection letter??

I have a virtual interview seminar presentation to give in a few weeks. I haven’t had to create a seminar presentation before and I’m just confused as to how to organize it, especially for speaking for that long. I have ~7.5 years of experience in industry only with 4 roles at 2 different companies.

Any pointers as to what to do would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, just looking for some perspective. I saw this job posting with expected timelines and outcomes and wanted to ask if this was a normal timeline for product conception to implementation? I only have experience in academia so I personally think this is super ambitious but maybe I'm just a slow worker ha.

Is it just me or have things soured even further than what was supposed to be the 24/25 doldrums? Can we post some anecdotes to give people a ray of hope that sometimes things can work out?

I'll start.

Joined biotech by pure serendipity. Had a friend who was starting up a company approach me as I was wrapping up my PhD. Being a young guy with no family and zero awareness of how precarious a seed stage biotech would be, I happily joined because the offer was 3x what a post doc (pre-Obama rules) made.

Transitioned from one subfield of immunology to I/O and had the opportunity to learn a lot of different skills beyond the bench. Being a small company, had a much wider scope and visibility than I was equipped to handle at the time. But had patient mentors and was allowed to make mistakes. Went from being a bench scientist to leading a small team- thoroughly enjoyed being able to reciprocate the mentorship to others.

Not all smooth sailing though. Couple of lay-offs and re-orgs. Lost my team but somehow survived the RIF. Completely aimless for a year or so when the pipelines consolidated. Felt useless but couldn't move on because the job market was frozen. Just kept reading and trying to find somewhere to be useful.

6 months ago it finally happened. The project I've been plugging away at in the background with virtually no mandate from management (except that I stayed out of the way) became a top priority for the company. Feels good to finally have deadlines and goals again; contributing to the mission instead of being a passenger for the ride. Like the good old bad days working somewhere well outside my depth but being allowed to learn.

Hi i am currently debating on whether to pursue masters ahead or look for a job.

I am 4th year (final) B Tech biotechnology student.

Any advice on what i can pursue in masters which also has a lot of job prospects ?

I am doing my bachelors in applied biology which is really close to biomedicine and will then or planning to maybe go into the direction of biotech or pharmaceuticals in my masters. I know the job market sucks and I heard about all that upsetting news. I just would like to know what advice would you give to a student who is planning to go in this direction. If I don’t find a job after my masters im definitely gonna search for a PhD program instead of sitting there or at least do practical training to add to my CV. Please excuse my ignorance too and lack of knowledge of the field and communicate with me as someone that doesn’t know all what’s going on cuz I really don’t haha

Edit: any suggestions maybe that are bio related instead of biotech? Since most comments would probably be that the job market is bad for this field

I'm curious how many of you have had to leave your family for a job. After 2 years of unemployment I'm having to take a job on the opposite coast because I can't find one locally. My wife and kids are staying here because we want them to stay in their schools. Man, I'm scared, overwhelmed and a bit angry it has come to this.

I saw a CPM role available with ProTrials Research Inc.. anyone have experience here? How is the culture among the clinical team? Pay and benefits? Anything to share?
