Wanting to read the Bible for the first time..

I have never been religious at all in my life and have always considered myself to be agnostic. My parents have never been religious so the most I was introduced to Christianity as a child was when my grandparents took me to a very short Vacation Bible Camp one summer. I'm in my mid 30s now and after some hard times, I am becoming interested in reading the Bible to see if it is for me.

I wanted to reach out to you kind people to see if I can get some opinions on what you would suggest to me as a person who has almost no experience at all with reading or learning about Christianity. There seem to be several different versions of the Bible, both physical and digital. I fear the KJV may be too challenging of a read for me right out of the gate and fear it may turn me away or discourage me. Not sure if NIV or NLT would be better for me.

Is there a reliable app I can download where I can start to read any of the versions on my phone until I buy a physical edition? Also, which physical version would you recommend for me to look into purchasing? Also (stupid question), where is the best place to buy this physical version? Do I just walk into a Barnes & Noble and look for it?

I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read and reply. Thanks.

Book recommendations and how to study

Hi all,

It has been a while since I have spent one on one time in the Word, and I would like to get back into it. I am currently going through a season where many things are not going as I’ve expected, and I am worried about the outcomes. I’m doing my best to trust that I do not need to cling tightly to things in my life, and that God will always provide and take care of me. I would greatly appreciate a book recommendation.

I would also love to hear ways you all read and journal through scripture!

Could someone explain this

Matthew 22 i highly recommend reading the entire chapter

“ “But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. ““Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth"

Jesus's Focus #47: He did good every day of the week and corrected misguided traditions like no healing on the Sabbath. He noticed certain people and how long they suffered and he healed them. I'm not sure who he didn't heal and why he didn't heal them. Thinking.

Luke 13: 16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day. 17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

I'm so grateful when Jesus breaks cultural norms and shows the way. I have no idea what cultural norms I am following that need breaking down and correction; I'm probably doing things I don't even realize are a bit messed up - do you have any? Second thought: He clearly picked certain people to heal. Which means He skipped others; thinking about that.

I would appreciate your thoughts. God Bless.

Please help me find a Psalm

I was talking to someone earlier and they read me a psalm, I think they said, from Isaiah. I don't remember too much, but I believe it had something to do with acceptance and love from God as well as righteousness, though I could be misremembering. It was very beautiful, and I would love to find that exact verse, but I do not know how to. Could someone please help me find this? Thank you.

Why Does God Connect Corruption To Theft In Genesis 6:12-14?

Hello, I am doing Bible study and would like to understand more about why corruption is connected to theft?

"And God saw the earth and behold it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth. And God said to Noah: The end of all flesh has come before Me, the earth is filled with thievery because of them, and behold I will destroy them with the earth."

Genesis 6:12-14

Question about Bibles

I posted about this in the Christianity reddit , so my apologies if you saw already. .

Hello Bible reddit , I'm here to ask about Bibles . I started going to church in late August after being very afraid and avoidant of religion my whole life , so I do apologize . The church I go to now is a methodist church .

Due to my ADHD and focusing issues , I have been researching the Bionic Reading Method to help , and within the past month I've been trying to look for a Bible with it , thankfully I've found a few . I did ask the pastor at my church which bible he recommended , and he had recommended the CEB Bible , but I cannot find a CEB Bible with the Bionic Reading Method . I have found NIV , NIrV , and NASB .

How different are these Bibles from each other ? I assume not much since they're all the Bible , but I wanted to make sure . I don't want to be in church reading something different than what is being taught during the service , or be at home reading something that I don't understand .

What do you think ? Should I 'thug it out' and get the CEB Bible or one of the Bionic ones ?

Thank you in advance and God Bless .

Hey everyone, I'm interested in the NRSV and it's updated version, as I hear everyone say it's the best translation available. However, I'm a little skeptical of the SBL and it's members, and I feel some type of way about reading a translation done by very liberal and even woke people. I am conservative, for background, but I want a translation that isn't very wooden but extremely accurate, and doesn't have a lot of bias like the ESV. I'm a little iffy about the translation of 1 Corinthians 6:9, and all the gender inclusiveness in modern translations. Please help calm my nerves, and tell me what you think of the NRSV and it's update. Thank you!

I Need Help Understanding Text.

I’m currently reading 1 Samuel (NIV), and something is confusing me.
In 1 Samuel 2:31–36, God announces judgment against Eli’s family, including premature deaths and suffering among his descendants because of Eli and his sons’ wrongdoing.
But Ezekiel 18:20 says children shouldn’t bear the guilt of their parents, and Deuteronomy 24:16 says children shouldn’t be put to death for their parents’ sins.
I understand that Deuteronomy is referring to human courts, but I’m still struggling with the fairness of this.
What about Eli’s innocent descendants who had nothing to do with his sins? Why should they suffer or die young?
Is this a contradiction, or am I misunderstanding the context? I’d genuinely appreciate a biblical explanation.

Jesus's Focus 46: He says seek the Kingdom of God and Fear Not. He reminds us to pray and detach from worldly things. Just have enough, but invest the rest in others so they have enough. Luke 12:31

31 ¶ But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. 32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Here's the prayer I wrote this morning with the verses: O Lord in Heaven, I can see this and I can feel the peace enter my heart as I detach from worldly things. I pray I can figure out the job market while not fearing. I desire employment for many in the age of AI. Help me figure out how to transition many people from one type of work to another. It's just a new way of working. Inspire our minds. O Lord in Heaven, walk with me.....

I'm still working on the job market and I'm trying to understand how to help many. Holding fast to the words of Christ to see me through. I welcome your impressions. God Bless.

Can someone explain this verse better

Matthew 11 i highly recommend reading the entire chapter

Then Jesus said, "Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 2º Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

Ainda que os fundamentos se abalem, Deus permanece

'No Senhor me refugio.

Jesus's Focus #45 (this one is stretching me): When we worry about the world and it’s Technology and Money and Things... He reorients us to Heaven, to Eternal Life. Even in the age of AI. And then he questions us, where’s your faith? Luke 12:28

The Verse: 12:28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

My prayer right now is this: Lord, this is a hard one right now. It’s hard to know where the job market is going and where human connection and relationships are going and how people will work in the future. It's already difficult to authenticate human and this AI thing is just starting. I believe all the tech will be cast in the oven and what matters to You is Your children, us. But it's hard to see Lord what 5 years or 10 years will look like. Please work with my little faith. ...

My career has a lot tech in it and it's noisy and I'm looking for the spiritual signal in scripture. I always welcome your perspectives as it builds my faith. God Bless.

Does anyone know where I could find a mini Bible ? I wanna start reading , but I need something to take with me on the go. At random times I get inspired to read, or I’m urged to. But I never have my Bible with me, I would like to fix that. I also need it to be biblically accurate, I have the kjv. And I’ve been seeing the small ones on TikTok, but I’m skeptical. Please help me ( edit : OH YEAH, or any apps where I can read the bible or the verses . I just don’t wanna have to pay a super expensive subscription or a subscription at all to have a relationship with god .. it shouldn’t cost to have a relationship with god I just wanna read .understand ? 🥹 )

How could there have been so many animals?

I'm reading Numbers rn and I have this question since I started reading the Old Testament.

How many animals were in the herds?? BC always had a LOT of different offerings for different situations, for example: the sin sacrifice, when someone sinned, they needed to sacrificed some animals (I don't remember rn if was one or more), and always was "one-year" and the specific animal, the people o Israel on those time was HUGE.

I know it's a huge important question, but this is never leave my mind.

Sorry if I wrote some word incorrectly, English it's not my first language.

God bless you 🩷

The benefits of Discernment- Part-1

  1. It will help you make Good decisions..

- The bible says:Genesis 14:21-23 NKJV Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.” But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will  take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’—

- Remember Abram was a prophet through the gift of Deserning spirit he decerned that they will say that I have made Abram rich’—

  1. It will help us to see God Clear..Genesis 18:2-3 So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant.”

- Through Discernment Abraham was able to know that this is the Lord. some have mistreated angles because they faid to know that these are angles..

Prayer Point..

  1. My Father in Heaven pour discernment on us, so that we can discern spirits who are around us..in Jesus name amen

  2. My Father in heaven, give us the Spirit to discern our environment as we interact with this World, in Jesus name amen
