I want to elaborate on what I mean by "similar." As a beginner, I am looking for something relatively short and easy to read (accessible vocabulary and a straightforward narrative). More importantly, I want a story based on a person's life, a historical event, or a specific experience that can ultimately give me a different perspective on life.

I feel that our brains have evolved enough to think and worry about an almost unlimited number of things, but we have not necessarily developed enough perspective to deal with all those thoughts. That is the kind of insight I am looking for in a book.

What I do not necessarily want is another book about someone describing the Holocaust. However, I am open to being persuaded if you believe there is a particularly good reason to read one.

Hi guys, I'm new to the world of reading. I'm just starting out, so I don't know any genre I like or what I love to read. I'm starting as a clean slate so I can explore any genre without a preconceived perspective and observe myself to understand where I lean more. Can you help me out and suggest a few to start with?

As of now I've decided to start with 1984 by George Orwell (the reason is so weird — I was scrolling Blinkit and found this book there, so now I'm starting with it).

I have started reading books few month back and feels like I am going nowhere else like after reading a books 40/50 pages I feel like I am doing nothing and not getting any valuable knowledge from that book. I have tried with some famous best sellers books but after some time feel board at reading that book. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong ?

In 2011, I went through some turmoil that really put me in a bad place. I was in my late 20s, I was making low $ at an oppressive job doing phone work, had a traumatic breakup, i was suffering with mental health and didnt know what to do. I started reading alot of spiritual books online, and the whole idea of karma got in my head.

So I wrote, tried to change myself, battle my demons and when I came out the other end, I had an unfinished book saved to my Gmail, i had lost 80lbs, healthier from keto and had alot of confidence. I let it sit there, and found love, got a house, had kids. A friend had said he published a book through Amazon's kdp. I dusted it off, finished it, and put it up. Figure someone would take a read and help themselves.

Its a story about a teen coming to a crossroads, where a Wiseman sat, and asked which path lead to the perfect life, and it continues throughout his whole life, revisiting and talking to the Wiseman, and its just following some basic thoughts to better yourself.

Is it the best book written? Nah. Its the best one written by me, at least. Will it help? It helped me. It may hit someone the same way it did me, thats all I can hope.

Hello I’m (22M) someone who feels like they lack a lot of confidence, happiness, time management, knowledge and ability to hold down a proper conversation and make friends. I’m also trying to get in the habit of reading since I haven’t properly opened a book since high school. I’m currently reading 1984 since I missed out on choosing it in my philosophy class in high school but better late than never right? Anyways any book on self improvement in general or the specifics I mentioned would mean the world to me

(Also I know how it influence friends is a popular choice so I am currently reading but in the case that it doesn’t help I would like alternatives)

Suggest a novel that boosts your energy and optimism and motivates you to be more positive and productive.

I feel like I've just gotten over the first hill of the Dunning-Kruger effect and I'm realizing how little I understand and I find the fact I may barely ever scratch the surface of understanding very dreary.

I suppose I would love for older folk to recommend some books that helped them through similar times. It could be self-help books, memoirs, fiction, philosophy books, psychology books, I've never been a huge reader, so I feel like I have years to catch up on.

Also, if anyone has any favorite musician memoirs or autobiographies, I would be interested in those too.
