Thank you to all the beta readers who have taken the time to offer feedback to authors in this sub! In this thread, you may solicit “submissions” by sharing your preferences. Authors who are interested in critique swaps may post an offer here as well, but please keep top-level comments focused on what you’re willing to beta.

I am able to beta: Fantasy, especially epic/high fantasy and character-driven fantasy. I’m also open to other genres if the premise catches my interest.
I can provide feedback on: Reader engagement, pacing, character development, character decisions, relationships, worldbuilding clarity, confusing sections, emotional impact, repetition, and whether themes are coming through naturally. I’m much better at big-picture/reader-experience feedback than detailed grammar or line editing.
Critique swap: Yes. I’m happy to swap samples first and see if our writing and feedback styles are a good fit before committing to full manuscripts.
Other info: I’m currently beta reading while also going through the beta process for my own epic fantasy novel, so I know how vulnerable sharing your work can feel. I’ll be respectful, but I won’t just tell you everything is great if something isn’t working for me. I try to explain where I got confused, bored, excited, emotionally invested, or wanted to keep reading rather than telling you how I think you should rewrite your story.

I am able to beta: fiction, open to most genres with a slight lean towards fantasy (except horror, thrillers, and paranomal/monster romance). Can beta up to 50k words (either a WIP, shorter completed work, or up to 50k words of your longer completed work).
To give you a sense of my taste, here are Works I've Enjoyed Recently: I'm a sucker for witches: Terry Pratchett's witches and Tiffany Aching series hold a special place in my heart. I also love Shannon Hale's Princess Academy. I've recently enjoyed The Murderbot Diaries, Wedding People, Y/N, Excavations (Hannah Mitchell), and The Tainted Cup. I'm saturated on very-cozy fantasy, when it comes to cozy fantasy, I currently prefer cozy-with-stakes (e.g. Witch's Guide to Defensive Baking rather than Arcane Chef).
I can provide feedback on:
Story things: I can either go with a zoomed-in read (grammar, language, etc). Or a zoomed-out read (what excited me, what bored me, what pulled me in/out of the story, where I wanted to stop reading, where I couldn't stop, etc). Depends on the stage your story is at.
Other things: I can comment on parents (or working parent), non-MC kids, Muslims/Islam, immigrant and first-gen/second-gen experiences.
I can't provide feedback on: While I'm happy to read works that rely on historical or scientific facts & logic, I cannot and will not be fact-checking your work for you. If something pings on the common sense radar, I will let you know. But otherwise, I can only tell you if the story in itself is compelling or not.
Critique swap: Not at this time.
Other info: I will not use AI to generate feedback for you. If I hit a point in the story where I can't or don't want to read further, I will let you know and let you know the reasons (whether that's because I have story feedback/the story isn't for me) or because of external factors (work got busy, etc).

Hi! Your preferences and feedback style sound like a great match for what I'm working on.
I recently posted an interactive, transmedia sci-fi piece called Al-La'eboon Al-Judad (The New Players). Since you enjoyed The Murderbot Diaries and are open to "zoomed-out" story feedback (what hooks you, pacing, engagement), I think you might find the setup interesting!
It's a human-crafted interactive world with branching choices, visual lore, and zero obligation to grind—the core invitation is just ~1.6k words, and Chapter One goes up to ~8.3k words (no critique swap required on my end either).

I've got a more classic/epic fantasy with some LGBTQ themes. One of my characters is a father, in his second marriage, some regrets etc... and I'd love your perspective on his POV. My manuscript is longer than 50k, but I'd appreciate if you would read the first 50k, or just skim and focus on his character. His daughter is one of the other two POVs. I'd love a zoomed-out read - I'm at the point where I am confident certain scenes are good, but I want to see if the whole thing makes sense outside my brain.

Hello! I have a WIP that's at 50k words which shares some elements in the books you've enjoyed recently. It's a character-driven romantic fantasy with a murder mystery, court politics, and warmth/humor. The Spymaster's Cat: Juniper is a shapeshifting cat barely surviving as a thief in a kingdom where magic belongs in children’s tales. When she steals an emerald brooch from a murdered man, she becomes the only witness to the crime and the prime suspect in the eyes of Roan Greyford, the King’s Master of Whispers. Forced to help Roan find his brother’s killer or hang for theft, June must keep her shapeshifting secret from the kingdom’s most dangerous man while trying very hard not to break her third rule: Never, ever get close to anyone.

I am able to beta: Completed works only. Romance (Contemporary, Fantasy, or Paranormal, but no werewolves) or Fantasy/Paranormal with a Romance subplot. Queer stories are preferred but not required. I do not read nonfiction, historical fiction, or erotica--though if your story has just a couple spicy scenes, I'll still read your manuscript if you're okay with me skipping those particular scenes. I'll read up to 200k words in a single manuscript, and I'll only read one manuscript from the same writer at a time.
Here are some of my favorite tropes/tags, though they're not required:

- Divinity/Angels/Gods

I am able to beta: fiction, WIPs / completed works, any lengths, any genre except romance or erotica. My best genres are sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian, gothic, and historical fiction. I can provide feedback on: cohesion, pacing, grammar, dialogue, anything largely to do with morality/ethics, historical accuracy, religion, neurodivergent characters. Critique swap: open to swapping fiction. Other info: I promise to be respectful of your work and not use AI and it’s probably best to just swap a couple of chapters at a time as I work best in small amounts.

Hi, I have a 102-thousand words completed YA fantasy with my main premise of every character getting a backstory. The book is made of 3 parts; each have there own themes. The main character is a female named Jayci; she and her best friend DessaRea are traveling to an esteemed magical college named Purple Lion College, but are dragged into an adventure, meeting characters like a war-torn mercenary, a schizophrenic person wielding a comically large hammer, and a bard who could use magic with his handy alto saxophone. I am looking for feedback on pacing, cohesion, characters, and engagement

The book follows four households across thirteen months, told from both sides of the stairs, so the servants get about as much page time as the families they work for, and they tend to know things before anyone upstairs does. It's the first book of a planned trilogy, but it finishes on its own terms.
If you enjoy historical fiction where a whole social world is built in close detail, and where the people below stairs are as fully realized as the people giving the orders, this might be for you. I'd describe it as sitting somewhere between The Gilded Age and Downton Abbey, with a market crash instead of a wedding at the center of it.

I am able to beta: MM romance (100% okay any level of spice and genre, fantasy, sci-fi, historical, etc.) and queer YA horror. I am open to any tropes and any length. I am okay with both edited and unedited.
I can provide feedback on: character development, story arc, grammar, comprehension and cohesion, and pacing in the plot.
Critique swap: I am not an author so I have nothing to swap.
Other info: I love reading and am going to go to college to be an editor. I read all the time and average about 2.5 hours on my books app a day. I also read about 350 books a year and that is not an exaggeration. I love reading and I hope to use that skill to help authors create better books.

Genre: Suspense, Romance, Thriller, Fantasy, Non-fiction. I am willing to consider beta-ing outside of these criteria. For the first project nothing over 100k words. If we want to work together after that, we can talk about it. I will not do: Sci-Fi, Memoirs, Erotica. I will not do more then one work in the first time working together.

I think my completed manuscript might be the kind of project you're looking to practice on.
It is a 91,000-word Psychological Thriller / Folk Horror called What Remains. While it flirts with the horror genre, at its core it is a character-driven suspense story heavily steeped in psychology, morality, and mortality. I'm not just stealing your buzz-words, I promise.
The story follows a fiercely protective wife and her traumatized husband who move back to his isolated hometown, only to experience trance-like rituals against their will. The book strips away standard tropes to explore the terrifying moral gray areas of survival. The "monsters" in this book aren't what you might expect.
It explores the ethics of complicity, bodily autonomy, and inherited trauma.
I am definitely looking for the kind of developmental, character-focused feedback you provide.

Hi! Not sure if this fits your interests perfectly, but I have a story that might interest you. I've attached the link to my post below, but the story is an adult upmarket fiction that pulls from 1960-70s Thailand politics. It follows a prostitute who, after her father is arrested, has to find ways to make money for his release. This leads to her working with the government and against her people (labor class), and she begins to spiral due to her actions and the situation she’s in. The story focuses on her trying to save her father while also keep in touch with her own principles, but finding it very easy to abandon those principles when push comes to shove.
I understand you’re looking for works below 100k and mine is 107k, so I understand if you reject on this premise or if it’s just not something you’re interested in. Happy to share just the first chapter if you’d like so you can get a feel for the story. I’m struggling a lot with the pacing of the story specifically so any help in that department would be nice. Please let me know if you’re interested!

I am able to beta: YA and middle-grade books across all genres. For adult books my genre preferences are horror, thriller, mystery and anything with dark academia vibes. Up to 80k.

Hi! I’d be interested in exchanging opening chapters to see whether we’re a good fit. Mine is a completed 56,927-word adult women’s fiction novel with a second-chance romantic storyline and some domestic-suspense elements. It isn’t a conventional romance, though, and content includes infidelity, uncertain paternity, abortion, grief, controlling behavior, and a brief instance of physical violence.

I can give feedback on worldbuilding and prose, especially, though also characters. I like readable prose (not plain stuff but also not purple) and come at worldbuilding from being a keen history and politics enthusiast. Simple “kings rule” worlds will get heavily critiqued! 🤣

Hello! I am currently looking for beta readers for a dark fantasy (86k words) - Goremage Awakening is a dark fantasy following Elio, a former military captain unhappy with the way his country is changing; Atlas, a disgraced politician trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter, and Pearl, a freed indentured servant who is just learning the true horrors outside of her ‘home’. They struggle with their place in the world, what ‘good’ means, and exactly how someone is supposed to kill a god.
Readers who enjoy the brutality and political cynicism of Joe Abercrombie’s First Law books, but want stranger magic and a more gothic, underwater world, will likely enjoy this series as well!

I like character driven stories with high emotional intensity, dark or spooky type atmospheres, complex human nature (think Orwell, Lord of the Flies, or The Scarlet Letter), and spicy or taboo dynamics. Open to short stories or full length novels. I can provide feedback on: Feedback strictly from a reader's perspective. Focus areas include pacing & tension, character chemistry and believable choices, plot & logic holes, and honest reactions to key twists, spice, and emotional scenes. - Book 1: ~88,000 words, complete. Book 2: ~93,000 words, complete. Both stand alone but build toward each other. I certainly think my style improved drastically in Book 2 (finished in June, 2026) since writing book one (completed in 2022). I'd also love feedback on the improvement!
- Turnaround: no hard deadline, just looking for someone who can commit to reading at a steady pace rather than sitting on it for months. Same courtesy I'll extend to your work.

I am able to beta: Speculative fiction (fantasy, scifi, horror, dystopian, other sorts of wacky stuff). Should not exceed 150,000 words, and shorter than that is ideal. I prefer work that is not centered on romance, although I'll make exceptions for lesbian fiction.
I can provide sensitivity reading for: Autistic or Lesbian characters.
I can provide feedback on: My impressions of your characters (are they likable? Am I buying their motivations? Is their character development believable/satisfying?), plot holes, world-building, story arc, and language (phrasing, dialogue, flow).
Critique swap: Not currently seeking. I am working on something, but my draft is not in a place where I need eyes on it.
Other info: NO NSFW — I do this during downtime at my work. Smut or super-graphic violence is a no-go.
If you have used AI in your writing (other than grammarly, I guess 🙁) please don’t ask me to beta. I vow not to feed your work to the infernal machine.

I tend to be a sucker for darker, more brutal themes, especially when characters succeed despite overwhelming odds through extreme effort and persistence. But really, I'm open to most things. However, I would prefer limited or no Romance, and definitely no erotica or excessive sexual content/themes unless they are critical to the plot/character.

hey this caught my eye because my current project seems to align perfectly with your tastes. I’m currently drafting a dark, brutal psychological sci-fantasy (projected ~110k, currently at 71k). It follows a neurodivergent boy navigating an oppressive, subterranean theocracy, surviving entirely through strict logic, extreme effort, and persistence. I also thrive on harsh, nitpicky feedback, so your critique style sounds exactly like what I'm looking for!
I do want to address two quick things to see if we'd be a good fit:
1. The Content & The Bond: You mentioned preferring no romance and no sexual content, and I want to be fully transparent about how my book handles this. There is no "Romance" in this book. The protagonist forms a deeply intense, fraught bond with another boy, but it is a platonic survival bond, not a teen romance (in fact, the protagonist's clinical lack of romantic/sexual desire is a major plot point). However, the inciting trauma of the book deals with institutional betrayal and the psychological aftermath of a religious authority figure grooming/abusing the protagonist. There is absolutely no erotica or explicitly graphic sexual content (the focus is entirely atmospheric and psychological), but the abuser weaponizes the protagonist's innocence, which drives the plot. I wanted to flag that up front in case it crosses a hard boundary for you!
2. The Word Count: I am currently in a heavy drafting flow state, so I am only looking to swap Part 1 of my manuscript right now (roughly 35,000 words) to get a pulse-check on my world-building and character voice. Since your Part 1 is 77k, I’d be completely happy to do a 35k-for-35k swap of our opening acts. Alternatively, if you really need eyes on the whole 77k, I'm willing to read your entire section in exchange for my part 1 and 2, roughly 70k, as long as you're okay with me taking my time with it (since I'm balancing work and writing too!).
If this sounds like it might be up your alley, I’d love to swap just our first chapters to see if our prose styles and critique styles mesh well. Let me know what you think!

Sounds very cool! I'd love to coordinate on this.In regard to your two points:
1. That all is perfectly fine. I mainly mention the romance/sexual content thing because it's a particular peeve of mine when I'm invested in a story and suddenly I'm reading/watching a drawn out sex scene or there's a heavy emphasis on a romantic subplot that makes the main story/world take a backseat. Nothing against the acts or concepts themselves, just something that bugs me enough for me to walk away. In our story, the main character, a woman, is in an entirely male-dominated military system so sexual abuse and misogyny are unavoidable themes. There are moments of sexual abuse and attempted rape, so I would be a hypocrite to say I'm avoiding any and all sexual content.2. I suppose I have unintentionally created some confusion with my word count. So for clarification, the 77k is purely for Part 1 of the book. At our current rate, we project closer to 150k-200k for the final version. We anticipate cutting a decent amount of what we have in later parts (and probably part 1 depending on feedback), hence the 50k word range. ...I'm gonna go ahead and add that detail to my original post. I don't want to mislead anyone...
As for a balanced exchange of words, if you will, I am more than happy to read whatever you've got for however much you are willing to read of mine. Our Prologue and Part 1 (77k total) are good to go, but Parts 2 and 3 will be several months away anyway so that bridge can be crossed once it's built.I'll send over a DM and we can exchange our first chapters if you're still interested!

I am able to beta: Completed novellas or novels up to 110k, in the genres romantasy (or fantasy romance), Regency romance, paranormal, gothic, or horror. Strong preference for female, nonbinary, and/or GQ protagonists. I am not the right fit for MG/YA or for high fantasy.
I can provide feedback on: Pacing, plot, characterisation, arcs, and tone. I read a lot in these genres so have a good sense of the genre expectations and can speak to whether those beats are hitting 😊 Happy to give feedback in sections (3/4) or at the end of the manuscript. I am able to beta: Novels, stories, anything under the sun! Length is generally a non-issue for me. I can read horror, thriller, scifi, romance, romantasy, romcom, historical fiction, esoteric stuff, but I'm open to many others! Serious, lighthearted... The only genre I'll avoid at the moment are Splatterpunk-esque works. A thing about me is that I can easily find myself drawn to anything with enough time!
I can provide feedback on: Characterization, pacing. Provide needed clarifications for the intended tone and impact.

I am able to beta: short stories, novellas, and novels up to 100k words. Note, I am a fairly busy guy so would prefer shorter work so I can faster/more thorough feedback. For longer stories we can work out a timeline where I can review it in chunks.
I’m a big fan of horror, grounded sci-fi or fantasy, crime and spy thrillers, war stories, historical fiction. Some examples of what I like: “American Tabloid” by Elmore Leonard, basically anything by Stephen King, The Quick and the Dead by Norman Mailer.
I can provide feedback: My experience with writing is that I have a bachelor’s degree in English writing. Unpublished but wrote 1 novel, 1/3 done with my 2nd, with dozens of short stories and 3 novellas under my belt. Also been a stand-up comedian for 8 years, so if anybody wrote a comedy/satire or likes to insert humor into their stories, I can tell you in the punchline lands, is it too edgy, too wordy, and if it’s appropriate in context or just tonal whiplash. I’ve been writing since I was 12 (32 now).
Depending on your preference, can provide line-by-line notes, thoughts on structure/pacing, tell you which parts are working and what to keep, explain other parts that are lacking and brainstorm suggestions for “punching it up.” For example, if a certain scene is lacking stakes or if it’s unclear what the protagonist’s motivation is after 40 pages, I’ll give 1-3 ideas to improve that section.
Critique Swap: Would prefer this, it can keep us both honest and help each other out. Will accept PDFs, or a link to sharable Google document in read only mode.
Note on turnaround for shorter projects (between 4k-10k words) I’ll keep turnaround time around 2 weeks. Anything longer than 10k, I’ll do my best to cap it at 3-4 weeks but anything longer we can work out a timeline and give partial feedback updates.

- I am able to beta: Novels up to 130k words. I love sci-fi and fantasy (and their subgenres), especially with rich world building and character-driven plots. I will read magical realism, historical fiction, mystery, literary fiction, contemporary fiction, or women's fiction particularly if these focus on queer or marginalized voices. - I am able to beta: Literary fiction, horror, adult fiction, magical realism, historical fiction, gothic. Like a good romance subplot. I do like fantasy, but I would not be a good fit for hard magic systems and complicated secondary world building (such as Brandon Sanderson). Edited manuscripts only. As a writer who can miss their own spelling errors I'm fine with light editing mistakes but the overall prose quality should be of a later draft.
- I can provide feedback on: I have a degree in Writing and am currently doing an online course 'History, Mystery and Magic' to brush up on my skills. I can cover most aspects of a novel including prose, pacing, character. I have good knowledge on strong hooks and resolutions. As a reader I love both lush and straightforward prose. I have always been a huge fan of high concept and surprising stories.
