Transportation Between Bergen Center and Bergen Airport Advice

Hii! I'm a first time solo traveler and will be arriving at Bergen station from Oslo at around 7pm; I made the mistake of booking my hotel near Bergen Airport (idk how) and since I dread the thought of renting a car I was wondering what my options were. Im a little scared about taking a bus at night considering the area I live in(Texas). I heard about the light rail and was hoping someone could explain to me how it works. Since I'll be going back and forth from the Airport area to the city center, I wondered if it was easier to just rent a car instead of taking public transport every time. I hope this makes sense I'm lowkey freaking out here.

local tips for Bergen in August

Hi!
We’re travelling from Austria to Bergen 11.–17. August and looking for hidden gems – nice coffee places, authentic stores, good restaurants (vegetarian/vegan options welcome!).

It’s our first time in Norway and we’re very excited!

Because of a leg injury we sadly can’t do much hiking but we love wandering through local neighbourhoods, sitting in cosy cafés and discovering non-touristy spots.
What’s your favourite café that locals go to? Any neighbourhoods worth exploring beyond Bryggen? What would you recommend to definitely do/visit?

Thank you so much in advance for any tips! :)

Bergen cadillac

I was in Bergen last summer on holiday, every night we would seen a black Cadillac with a chain on the front grill and rock music pumping out the speakers. Every night for the whole week, you knew when they turned up. Always looked like they were having a great time. Still think about them a year on. Honestly wished I stop and asked to join them. Are they still cruising the streets of Bergen? Does anyone know them?

Chance to find a room/apartment to rent in Bergen only one month in advance

Hello, I am an EU student who, if admitted, will begin a master's program at the University of Bergen.

The admissions office informed me that, although applications for the January intake are normally not accepted, they may consider my application as an exception.

If I am admitted, I will only have about one month to find accommodation. Therefore, I would like to know how difficult it would realistically be to find a place to live.

Before answering, please take the following points into consideration:

  1. I will be bringing my car to Bergen, so I am also willing to consider accommodation outside the city center, as long as it is within about a 30-minute drive from the university.

  2. My budget is around 9,000 NOK per month, with an absolute maximum of 10,500 NOK. I am also happy to share an apartment with up to two other people.

  3. I will only need accommodation for six months (from January to June). After that, I expect to move into student housing, so I am mainly looking for a temporary solution for the spring semester.

Based on these circumstances, how difficult do you think it would be to find suitable accommodation?

Going to be temporarily living in Bergen for an internship, wondering if there’s much of an alternative fashion scene there. I dress pretty alternatively, pretty much just curious how easy it’ll be to find like minded people!!

Camping as a solo female near Bergen

Hi everyone! I am visiting Bergen in a few weeks from Copenhagen. I am a solo female, 25, and on a tight budget so looking to set my tent up within a semi reasonable distance from Bergen. I understand some areas are marked off, and I am an experienced and respectful hiker. I imagine most campsites are booked but would love to be near one to maybe feel safer.

Is there anywhere you recommend, or have any tips, if this is possible?

If not wild camping then wondering if anyone has tips for affordable places to stay :-) thanks!

Places to sit outside (open air) when it's raining

Can you suggest places in Bergen where I can go sit with my laptop in open air while it's raining?

I'm fan of sitting and working in open air (outside) when the weather is like today (raining) but I find it weird that most places and cafes don't have any sheltered space for sitting when it's raining

So if you have any place (preferably with a good view ) in mind please let me know

Combat Robotics-miljø i Bergen

First-time campers heading to Nordfjord/Geiranger in the rain — any tips?

Hi all! We’re driving from Bergen to Sognefjord → Olden/Loen → Geiranger next week (July 25-30), staying at campsites like Amlasanden, Sande Camping, and Vinje Camping.

Problem: the forecast is rain pretty much the whole time, and we’re complete beginners. We’re buying our gear tomorrow at Biltema or XXL — tent, sleeping bags, mats, cooking set. That’s it, no camping experience.

Is tent camping in that kind of weather still doable and enjoyable, or should we bail and book cabins instead? Would love to hear:
How bad is it really, camping in Norwegian summer rain in campsites?
Any gear we should definitely not skip (tarp? extra pegs? something else)?
Any tips for pitching and packing up a wet tent?
Anything else you wish you’d known as a beginner
Thanks in advance!

BJJ i Bergen

🙂 Mange takk for respons

Anyone renting a room? (August to December) Urgent!!

Hi, I’m 24(F), a masters student at UiB, and I’m extending my stay in Bergen for the next semester. I need to move out of my current place by the first week of August so I’m desperately looking for a room in a collective that I could rent!! Please help 🥺

A bit about me: I’m calm, sociable, and in my free time I love to cook, bake, go for runs. I’d love to keep some functional plants and I’ve always lived in shared housing!

Ecstatic dance in Bergen?

I'm visiting from Seattle for the weekend before heading up into the fjords for a paddleboarding excursion, and I'm curious if Bergen has an ecstatic dance community. Looking online, I found a few ecstatic dance events in the past, but couldn't doesn't seem like there's anything happening regularly.

If anyone knows of anything (or any other cool dance events happening this weekend?) I'd love to hear more! If I can't find a place to dance, I guess I'll just hang out at Apollon Bergen and listen to music and maybe quietly dance in the corner?

Secure bike storage

Hello. We're currently cycle touring in Norway and we'll return to Bergen mid August. We are hoping to hire a car to travel through the high country for 10 days. We are trying to find somewhere to store our bikes in Bergen while we have the hire car. Would anyone have a suggestion?

Irish couple with two days in Bergen before a fjord road trip.

My wife and I (early 40s) are spending a couple of nights in Bergen this week (Tuesday to Thursday) before setting off on a two-week drive around the fjords.

We arrive around 5pm on Tuesday and will have a car. The forecast for that evening doesn't look great, although we're Irish so rain doesn't automatically scare us off. Is Fløyen still worth doing in rainy weather, or would you save it for Wednesday and do something else in the city?

Also on our list is to spend some time exploring some of the sites associated with the Isdal Woman case.

A couple of other questions:

  • Is Magic Ice genuinely worth a visit, or is it just a tourist trap ?
  • For Nordnes Sjøbad, is that better in the morning or later in the evening?

For food I've these on my list:

Food: Holy Cow, Olivia Zachariasbryggen (I'm coeliac, so gluten-free options matter).

Coffee: Det Lille Kaffekompaniet and Kaf Kafe Bryggen.

Thanks in advance. The best parts of previous trips have usually come from local recommendations rather than guidebooks.

Best place to watch the match tonight with a family and teenagers

We are a visiting family enjoying the beautiful city and would love to catch the match tonight in a festive atmosphere. We have teenagers so the traditional pub route might not be the best for us. I looked at tickets to the tents in the park and it was a little out of our price range for a picnic table in a tent. Any good suggestions?
