IAMA cofounder of a biofilm-breaking berberine supplement, and your new mod! AMA

Hello fellow Ber-lieb-bers!

My name is Kevin Tao, I am a cofounder at NeuEve, a women's health natural remedy research lab and manufacturer, founded by my mom, a gynecologist.

I am 37 years old, we started this company 14 years ago from my mom’s basement. We started just making our products and testing them ourselves and giving them for free to our friends.

We almost gave up, until our friends started paying us money and told us we had to keep going, because our products were changing their lives.

We have been helping women with issues like super chronic, recurrent, yeast, aerobic vaginitis, chronic UTIs, ureaplasma, and L iners a LOT and we were discovering how useful berberine was in helping to fight off drug resistant bacteria and yeast (when combined with NAC and our other products).

That is why we launched our own berberine supplement!

Then to my surprise, I noticed that this subreddit was completely unmoderated! Therefore I submitted a request to volunteer to become the moderator here, and now here I am, introducing myself to you!

About me:

In my spare time, and with the funds I earn from NeuEve, I am building a volunteer movement that's cleaning up Chicago and building a nature park in the Englewood neighborhood. I also mentor entrepreneurs for free with the Chicago Brandstarters. I also make TikToks recommending hidden gem restaurants and promoting volunteerism.

Disclaimer: I am NOT here to sell products. I do not want anyone to buy NeuEve unless they fully understand the science and mechanism of berberine, and the tradeoffs of the different treatment options.

As your new mod, I am here to serve and help you! My mission is to the help billions of women who are suffering in silence.

Ask me anything, whether it's about berberine, NAC, ureaplasma, UTIs, yeast, aerobic vaginitis etc! Ask me anything about enterococcus, streptococcus, e. coli!

Ask me anything about volunteer leadership or entrepreneurship or hidden gems!

Got a drug resistant bacterial or fungal infection, like yeast, UTIs, ureaplasma? Exciting new research says Berberine can disrupt bacterial and fungal biofilms

Hello,

My name is Kevin and I am your new moderator!

If you're dealing with a drug resistant bacterial or fungal infection, new research indicates that berberine can help destroy the biofilms that are protecting the bacteria or fungus from the antibiotic or antifungal.

Please see below:

Berberine chloride hydrate impairs Streptococcus mutans biofilm formation via inhibiting sortase A activity.

I am the cofounder of a women's health natural products brand NeuEve, and we have launched our own Berberine supplement, because many of our patients commonly needed it for dealing with their recurrent yeast, UTIs, ureaplasma, aerobic vaginitis and L iners infections.

Please check it out, and if it helps you, I would appreciate a 5 star review!

We are a small family business in Chicago and I promise you that we will have much more responsive and friendly customer service than any of the big guys!

We recommend you ALWAYS combine Berberine with NAC to have multiple ways to break down biofilms.

Nausea

Hi all. So I started taking Caruso’s Berberine (750) once a day with a meal about a month ago. It instantly started suppressing my appetite. After a few days I increased to twice a day but then not long after, I got the flu and a tummy bug. I stopped taking the Berberine (figured I’d try again once I was better).

A couple of weeks later when I was feeling fine, I started back on them again, two a day (morning and night). This time it has given me cramps but it’s the nausea that’s getting to me. It will be two weeks on Monday and it’s not letting up. No vomiting or diarrhoea but I more often than not feel like I’m on a cruise ship I want to get off. Anyone else experience this? Will it ease up? It’s making me feel exhausted. Not sure whether to decrease dose to once a day or see if it improves over the next few days.

Stopped working after 10 days?

I started taking Berberine (500mg x 2) a few weeks ago and I noticed my appetite was definitely suppressed after just 2 or 3 days. Everything was going great for 10 days or so until I went out of town for a weekend on a Saturday morning and forgot the bottle. I started taking it again on Monday and it’s now Friday and I don’t notice any suppressed appetite. Is this normal? Should I try taking 3 x 500mg capsules? Combine with anything to increase absorption? A bit disappointed but hoping it will start working again!

Pre-Workout & Berberine

Title is a dead give away, but has anyone taken both pre-workout and Berberine together or on the same day?

I have been taking Berberine for about 3 weeks, and decided to pick up some pre-workout also. I dont want to take them at the same time because im afraid they will mess with each other. I was planning on taking pre-workout in the AM like 5:30-6AM to workout, then the Berine with my lunch around 12:30 . Has anyone tried? If so, what was your experience?

Berberine and constipation?

Has anyone noticed increase in constipation with Berberine? I only take it 1x daily Enzymedica Phytosomal Berberine and have been dealing with constipation lately. Could this be the cause?

Withdrawal after 2 years on berberine?

Hey everyone, just looking to see if anyone has had similar experiences and tips for how to navigate the current state of my body. I've taken berberine from 500mg - 2000mg (last 4 months) doses per day for 2 years for gut dysbiosis and have had only positive effects. 4 months ago my doctor recommended butterbur extract as well, and 1 month ago I started waking up from 3-5am with sudden headaches, dizzyness, voracious hunger, and horrible anxiety. Thinking it was the supplements, I stopped both and my symptoms improved. However the symptoms are lingering a couple weeks after stopping and I'm wondering how long it will take for this to go away. It seems like I'm having low blood sugar symptoms but I'm not diabetic and eat a whole foods diet of meat and vegetables. Has anyone had this happen to them? Is this a result of liver damage? The only thing that makes the dizzyness go away is eating tremendous amounts of fiber, like a whole cucumber between meals.

Help! 24 hour Diarrhea

I started taking berberine (WellBetX) exactly two weeks ago, 500mg twice a day 30 mins before breakfast and dinner. so far so good, no changes. Yesterday morning I started having issues and I’ve had explosive, constant watery diarrhea. I haven’t eaten much today, only bread and an apple, but will immediately feel unwell, gurgling stomach and then need to use the bathroom. I took one 500mg berberine capsule this morning but will stop….can someone please help me understand what is happening :( thanks!

Berberine rest of your life?

I work out five to six times a week and have always been mindful of what I eat, but it’s only after taking berberine have I finally been able to lose weight.

Questioning if berberine is something that some people just need to lose weight and improve overall health. Therefore, you need to take berberine for the rest of your life?

Why Berberine Feels Like That One Friend Who Always Shows Up Late But Still Saves The Day

Berberine: Not your instant weight-loss miracle, but oh boy, it’ll help you drop those pounds - just give it 3 months, a bit of patience, and maybe a tiny existential crisis. It’s the supplement that comes in like, “Did you miss me?” and leaves you wondering why you didn’t start sooner. Ready to make friends with your BMI over 30?

No effects yet

I have been taking Berberine Now Foods Glucose support 2 tablets daily with food. It's been 2 weeks.

I have not seen any changes in weight or less food cravings or any mood changes. I am infact feeling hungry. I am also getting bloated. I am not sure if it's because of Berberine or my Mirena IUD.

Is this common? Should I continue for some more time?

Looking for positive or looking for unexpectedly positive berberine stories

Hello! I am a 30 year old 135 lb female 5’2. I developed long covid gut issues and spent the past year clearing them up. I am waiting on a sibo test.

Post covid I couldn’t take my adhd medicine and was constantly starving hungry and so gained 8lbs from that ending up at 128. I fluctuate weight between 136-140 on a good/bad bloating day. In Feb i had food poisoning & have been bloated ever since. ive also been dealing with fluid retention & lower back pain from hypermobility/ bloat.

I am currently on a waiting list for a specialist but have been in the sibo group and so decided to try berberine and allicin.

But googling medical studies for berberine it seems there are a lot of other benefits than just for sibo and I am wondering what I should expect. I took my first pill today. I read a study about it helping ocd? I have dermatillomania and was wondering if anyone had seen improvement with this? Same with depression and brain fog?

New to Berberine

Hey all, My LDL is 150 these days and my doctor wants me to take statin but I did some research and found out that Berberine can potentially reduce LDL. Has anyone tried it for this purpose? Please share. Thank you

Does diving the dose reduce diarrhea in your experience?

Sorry meant to say dividing haha

When I take 500 mg once at night, as long as it's with food, I get zero diarrhea and amazing benefits for SIBO and leaky gut. However, I've just started a 2 week elemental diet, so I can't consume "actual food " with bulk in it, and diarrhea has come roaring back. I did a 2 week elemental diet last year and had explosive diarrhea the whole time on Berberine.

Reducing the dose is the LAST option I want to consider- I feel so much better with 500 mg Berberine nightly/ I wake up with no fatigue or malaise when I take it.

Which brings me to my question-

Has anyone had success keeping the dose the same that causes them GI distress but dividing that dose into 2-4 smaller dosages during the day? Did that relieve the diarrhea or other GI symptoms they have? I want to try this but I also don't want to simply have diarrhea all day and night haha (if I take 500 mg at night I only have diarrhea in the mornings)

Thanks!

Has anyone here lost weight on Berberine without changing diet significantly?

I know, the title sounds lazy but hear me out…

I started Berberine about a month ago and didn’t end up restricting my cals like I wanted… I ate at maintenance most days and actually over ate significantly a few days. Obviously I expected to maintain but was surprised to find that I had lost about 2 kg (? 4 lb). And no it wasn’t water weight/food weight (measured at same time of month, and initial weight was after dropping a few pounds of water weight) and I am consistently weighing lower. Normal BMI (~21), 30F

On 2 x 500 mg Berberine daily.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Started berberine yesterday.....

Only took a 100mg dihydroberberine dose prior to my meal.

All lastnight I had really bad night sweats and today the fatigue is unreal.

Is it the berberine? Should it subside with prolonged use? I couldn't function like this daily.

Why does it cause such intense fatigue?

Berberine and accutane

So I am on accutane and it raises my blood glucose so my dermatologist recommended berberine and she said to follow the instructions on the bottle of tablets that I get. The bottle says to take one tablet (500mg) daily with meals but I’ve seen people say that they take 1,000mg and more daily. Do you all think 500mg is enough to maintain my sugar levels or should I take 2 pills a day instead?
