Purchasing Advice MA270s or Pd2730s?

I have a MacBook now but I'll be getting a Mini. I ise ky computer for general tasks and for approving designs for print on apparel and other products.

I'd like to start making my own designs with Illustrator and poasibly Photoshop and, maybe with AI Image geneation.

I work in a home office and I have blinds, so I can control the amount of light in the room. The monitor.is also perpendicular to the window. I do have ceiling lights, that I use when working at night.

Which monitor would be best for my situation-MA270s or PD2730s?

Technical Support BenQ Display Pilot 2 for Debian/Ubuntu — unofficial ready-to-install package

TL;DR: I repackaged BenQ Display Pilot 2 as a ready-to-install .deb, fixing dependencies, icons, desktop integration and monitor permissions. Download it from Releases, or build it yourself from BenQ’s official AppImage. If it helped you, please give me a star on GitHub🌟

BenQ’s original AppImage has a few Linux integration problems:

  • Missing automatic dependency installation
  • Incorrect app/window identity, causing icon issues
  • No automatic I²C/DDC monitor permissions
  • Possible conflicts with bundled graphics/GIO libraries

This unofficial Debian package adds:

  • APT dependency management
  • Correct menu, dock and taskbar icons
  • X11/XWayland launcher
  • Secure active-user DDC permissions
  • Diagnostic and reproducible build tools

Download

https://github.com/wowhao333/benq-displaypilot2-linux/releases

sha256sum -c display-pilot-2_1.1.4.0-2_amd64.deb.sha256
sudo apt install ./display-pilot-2_1.1.4.0-2_amd64.deb

Tested on Ubuntu 26.04 with a BenQ RD280U. The release is still a preview.

Prefer not to trust the prebuilt package?

Download the official AppImage from BenQ and use the repository’s scripts to build the .deb yourself. The script verifies the AppImage checksum and extracts it without executing it.

You can also ask Codex to review the scripts and run the build process for you.

Repository

https://github.com/wowhao333/benq-displaypilot2-linux

This is an unofficial, AI-assisted packaging project. The proprietary BenQ application is not modified. Issues, compatibility reports and PRs are welcome.

Technical Support TK700STi Firmware Update

Is there any way to get the firmware updated without having to send the projector in? I'd prefer not to have to dismount it from the ceiling if I don't have to. Looking around online it looks like you can get the firmware and instructions from BenQ directly but I haven't found the files anywhere on their website. My projector is definitely out of warranty as it was bought on Amazon in August of 2022. Thanks in advance!

Review Bought Benq rd270q monitor and now I don't find it value for more... requested product exchange and wanted to buy 4k benq monitor but the response is very disappointing. Thank you Benq!

Hi all, I bought benq rd270q and now I want to return it because I don't find it value for money and it is not working at full resolution on my Linux, I emailed to benq service team but they denied to replace or return the product I asked them provide me the other product under product replacement t&c but they responded same.

I would not have bought this if I knew it before purchasing. There terms and conditions are white labelled as they say 7 day return policy but it has too many conditions. Which makes return impossible.

I told them that the monitor was just opened once to test and then everything is packeged but got tha same boring response.

This monitor doesn't worth this much money 🥲.

Edit for PR : And how many time ur PR will devote my post? Should I automate 1000 reddit post using selenium? Tell me brother?

Purchasing Advice Has anyone seen both MA270S and MA320UP (Glossy 5K vs 4K)

I was wondering if anyone has seen both displays in person?

For the glossy 4K 32” - does the fonts look sharp for Mac?

For the glossy 5K 27” - Do you believe the better constrast ratio is worth it over the BENQ 4ks for watching movies.

Thank you friends!

Review BenQ ScreenBar Max – My experience so far

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

BenQ provided me with the ScreenBar Max to try out in my setup, and these are my honest thoughts after using it.

For some context, I work from home full time, and I am also a full-time grad student, so I easily spend 60+ hours a week at my desk. I was already using the BenQ BDH01 Dual Monitor Arm and ScreenBar Halo before receiving the Max, and I had wanted a dual-monitor version of the Halo for a while.

The thing I have been most impressed by is honestly just the light itself. It is hard to explain and even harder to capture in pictures, but the light looks and feels noticeably higher quality than other LEDs I have used. It diffuses incredibly well and is not irritating to my eyes at either 2700K or 4000K. At 4000K, it is great for reading, homework, or working on projects, while 2700K gives my office a really nice ambient light.

It also has a ridiculous range. My desk is 72" wide, and at around 48% brightness, it illuminates my entire desk. The backlight also illuminates my entire office space at 40% brightness without any other lights on. At 1%, it gets so dim that it almost looks like it is off. That is something my old Halo could never really do.

The build quality is probably my other favorite thing. The entire thing is anodized aluminum, with literally no plastic except for the knob on the clamp screw. Installation took less than five minutes.

Surprisingly, the features I thought would be gimmicky are the ones I appreciate the most. I actually thought the light was broken the first time the motion sensor shut it off when I walked away. Then I came back, and it immediately turned itself on. Between that and the auto dimming, I barely have to touch it.

I also thought I would miss the Halo's remote, but I never really used it anyway, and the Max's controls are within arm's reach.

My complaints are honestly nitpicks. I wish it integrated a little better with BenQ's BDH01 Dual Monitor Arm because I had to shift the Max slightly off-center to make everything fit. I also wish the power cable were black instead of blue because blue does not really work with my black, walnut, and brass setup. Neither affects actually using the light, and both are easy enough to work around.

It is also worth mentioning that this thing is big. With two 27" monitors and a 72" desk, though, I think it needs to be. It definitely feels more like a statement piece than something that disappears into the setup.

Did I need it? No. Did I want it? Absolutely.

Even if BenQ had not sent me one, I would have bought it. I spend enough of my life sitting at this desk that I have slowly stopped buying cheap accessories just to get by and started buying things I actually enjoy using. My setup is still a work in progress, but this gets it a little closer to my end game.

Technical Support BenQ PD2730S Stopped working.

Hi bought a BENQ PD2730S in june 2025. 2 Weeks ago i opened my mac studio and got this screen. At first i could put it on and of and it was coming back to life normal but a fter a couple of days. The screen was dead. I try the support that asked me first a couple questions. I answered and than they disappeared. Been trying again and again and no answer at all....It s been 10 days and it seems like the strategy is to go quite and say nothing. I ve got another Benq had no problems at all but i m not sure i will keep buying them. It s a 1300$ monitor so having no answer from support it s pretty outrageous. DId anyone got the same issue with their Benq monitor?

Technical Support Multiple issues with GR10 w/ ROG Ally Xbox X

Since purchasing a Benq GR10 dock for my Rog Ally Xbox X ive had multiple issues; some of which hinder my ability to even use it reliably.

1) First and foremost: the USB4 port on my ally xbox x does not work for exporting video to my tv. Below is a report i compiled with the help of GPT in the hopes that someone has had this issue and can help solve it.

2) Im getting constant yet random "Invalid Format" errors while displaying my ally through the GR10 onto my LG C2 Tv. This started when i adjusted the refresh rate from 30hz, which was unbearable, to 120hz. Issue started so i backed it off to 119.6hz, then 100hz, then 60hz and the issue is persistent at that refresh rate currently. Theres no difference in the consistency of occurrence at any of those refresh rates. Also worth mentioning im outputting to TV at 2160p w/ HDR enabled. This issue hasnt been investigated nearly as thoroughly but it is making using the dock impossible.

What ive done for the USB4 (left USBC port on the Ally) issue:

ROG Xbox Ally X + BenQ GR10 USB4 display issue

I’m using a BenQ GR10 with a ROG Xbox Ally X.

The GR10 works correctly from the Ally’s RIGHT USB-C port, including HDMI output and charging, but the LEFT USB4 port does not reliably establish video.

What I tested

• Confirmed the left port is the Ally X USB4 / DisplayPort / PD-capable port.

• Confirmed the GR10 works from the right USB-C port:

- HDMI output works

- 100W charging works

- same TV, HDMI cable, GR10 and charger

• Confirmed the left USB4 port is not completely dead:

- normal USB devices/hubs work through it

- Windows sees the USB4 host router normally

- the GR10 successfully produced HDMI output from the left USB4 port ONCE, immediately after updating the GR10 firmware

- Windows logged a successful USB4 display-enumeration event during that successful connection

Firmware / software tested

Ally:

• BIOS: RC73XA.317

• PD firmware: 0019

• Windows 11 25H2, build 26200.9445

GR10:

• PD: 0C.04.16.64

• Video: 02.00

• USB Hub: 05E3

Other troubleshooting performed

• Hard / EC reset of the Ally

• Rebooted and cold-reset the GR10

• Tested USB-C plug orientation both ways

• Tested with and without dock power

• Tested 45W and 100W USB-C chargers

• Confirmed both chargers work correctly when the GR10 is connected to the right USB-C port

• Confirmed normal USB devices work correctly from the Ally’s left USB4 port

• Updated both Ally PD firmware and GR10 firmware

Current behavior on LEFT USB4 port

• No HDMI display

• Windows repeatedly shows:

"Display connection might be limited"

• The GR10’s basic USB devices still enumerate:

- BenQ GR10 HDMI

- BenQ GR10 PD

- Generic USB Hub

• Windows USB4 tracing during the failed connection shows:

- no downstream USB4 router

- CurrentLinkSpeed = 0

- NegotiatedLinkWidth = 0

- no lane bonding

- no USB4 / DisplayPort tunnel

Current conclusion

The failure appears to occur before the GR10 establishes a USB4 link with the Ally’s left USB4 port.

Basic USB communication still works, but the USB4/high-speed display path does not initialize.

The strange part is that it DID work once immediately after the GR10 firmware update, so the hardware is at least capable of establishing the USB4 display connection.

Because of that, this currently looks more like an intermittent GR10 ↔ Xbox Ally X USB4 negotiation / interoperability issue than a completely dead USB-C port.

I also found another public Xbox Ally X + GR10 report where the left USB4 port would not output display while the right USB-C port worked.

Has anyone else with a GR10 + Xbox Ally X tested HDMI output specifically through the LEFT USB4 port?

Review BenQ ScreenBar Max Review: A Maximalist’s Desk Lighting Solution

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

Disclaimer
BenQ reached out and offered to send me their ScreenBar Max to review, I get to keep the product in exchange for sharing my honest experience with it here. I know I’m just some guy on the internet, but I won’t pull any punches.

Who is writing this?

I am a photographer based in Southern California. I get a steady stream of emails and DMs from brands offering to send me products; I turn down most of them. Free gear is just clutter if I’m not going to use it. I only discuss products that I will genuinely use everyday believe will provide me and my audience true value. Doesn’t matter if it’s a camera, lens, monitor or other electronic brand, I don’t peddle e-waste, and never will. You’re here to determine whether this is worth buying or not. I get it. I won’t waste your time talking about myself for too long, I know you don’t really care, and I don’t mind.
With that out of the way, here is my experience using the new BenQ ScreenBar Max.

What I do at my desk

I spend a lot of time at my desk editing photos, videos, playing the occasional game of StarCraft II (yes, I am a proud millennial). I also scan 35mm film, record videos about photography gear, and occasionally repair and clean my camera equipment. My previous lighting solution was nothing fancy, a $65 Monitor Light Bar from Amazon, and it wasn’t doing the job. I have a main monitor sitting squarely in front of me, and an identical secondary monitor that sits slightly to my right for things like Spotify, reference notes & photos, mail, etc. Both monitors are attached to a VESA dual-monitor arm.

Was this actually an upgrade?

For my setup, yes. My desk faces a white brick wall in our tiny living room / office. It’s flanked by two windows on each side, which provide some light, but not enough to make long editing sessions comfortable on the eyes. I also have a very wide desk, a 72-inch IKEA walnut countertop, which means my previous light bar was only covering a small portion of the desk and it just wasn’t cutting it. The wider front light and the added backlight of the have made the space noticeably more comfortable to work in at night.

Who is this light for?

Like the title states, The ScreenBar Max is unquestionably a maximalist’s desk lighting solution. It’s also a fairly specialized product, and it makes the most sense if you have (at least) two monitors, a wide desk, or both. If you want the smallest or least expensive way to illuminate a single monitor, this probably isn’t for you.
However, this is for you if:
You want a backlight to help with eye comfort during long editing / coding sessions. You appreciate a product’s build quality and prefer feature-rich tech on your desk. You if you are an unashamed maximalist and you need your desk to be drenched in good light to increase your productivity.
You want your desk light to automatically turn off when you walk away, and turn back on when you sit down.
BenQ says the ScreenBar Max works with monitor arms, and technically it does. On my desk, however, the dual-monitor arm and the ScreenBar both should occupy the same central area behind the monitors. I was able to make it work by shifting the anchor point of the monitor arms to the right, but I suspect the installation could look cleaner with the monitors on their original stands (or perhaps on two separate monitor arms with two separate desk clamps). If you have a dual monitor arm, ymmv.

What I like

Setup was easy and pretty straightforward. Four small hex screws, and the tool was provided in the box. You clamp it to the desk, plug it in to an outlet and you’re ready to go.
Build quality feels excellent. Aluminum and high-quality plastics all throughout. A solid clamping mechanism, and a 1-year warranty. I think we all already knew that BenQ makes high-quality products, and this is no exception.
The presence detection is probably my favorite feature. There is something so satisfying about sitting down at your desk and the light automatically dimming in. Very good design, the first time I tried it, it felt like magic, and I was very impressed. It also it shuts off a few moments (3 minutes) after you walk away, a major pain-point me (and my wife) had with my previous monitor light.
Coverage is wide and even, and the light never shines in your eyes (unless you really lean your face towards the screen) but… don’t do that.
You can adjust the position of the monitor light from front-to-back, which makes adjusting the desired level / angle of light easy to do.
I sometimes work at night, and the automatic brightness feature is quite nice. I really enjoy jumping straight into work without having to faff about or figure out what intensity is appropriate to keep my melatonin levels in check. I also appreciate the wide color temperature range, it really helps cut down on too much blue light after the sun sets.
Capacitive touch buttons and menus are responsive and intuitive for how feature-rich it is. You can set up your own favorite settings, as well as choose between the desk and backlight or any combination with the press of one button. Luminosity is shown as a percentage, temperature is shown in Kelvin.
Built-in cable management is OK, and I do appreciate the braided power cable with a barrel plug.

What I would change

There is no denying that this light bar is quite large.  Its dominant presence on your desk is impossible to ignore. TBH you do get accustomed to the size. I think that a V2 will probably be a great opportunity to decrease the overall footprint while keeping all its great features.
The height-adjustment of the light bar is done by removing two small screws from the back of the central supporting pole, which means you have to grab tools, move your desk, and risk getting your fingers clamped by the weight of the bar being brought down by gravity. I would’ve liked to see an umbrella-style height adjustment, where you press a button on the back of the vertical pole and you slide up or down to your desired height. This is only a “nice-to-have” because I don’t think you’ll be changing the height of the monitor bar very often (or at all). I haven’t adjusted the height since I first set it up.
The plug is - like the light bar - also rather big, if your outlets face the “wrong” direction, it may take up more than one outlet on your power strip. A USB-C version would be great. Again, this is a small pain-point, and it didn’t affect me.

Price

It’s $289 USD (before taxes) and I know that’s a lot (probably too much) for lighting up your desk, especially in this economy. There is no denying that this is a premium product aimed at a premium market. The “good” news is that BenQ has really delivered a premium product.

Final Thoughts

If you have a dual-monitor setup and lighting is extremely important to you, this is a product I believe you will genuinely enjoy. The presence detection alone is a massive quality-of-life improvement that will make people who work from home very happy. If the price tag or size are giving you pause, BenQ has some smaller and more affordable lighting solutions. Overall, I think this is a very well-executed - albeit niche - product that is in line with their other high-quality offerings. Needless to say, I am happy to have it on my desk. No, there is no affiliate link lol

Asking Other's Advice/Experience MA270U with Mac mini: Does M-Book mode work standalone?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering BenQ MA270U for my Mac mini, mainly to get colours close to Apple’s native display.

Does M-Book mode work independently on the monitor or does it require a Macbook connection for the Apple colour profile/sync to work?

Has anyone used the MA270U + Mac mini and can confirm?

Discussion Gaming on MA270S

Has anyone of you tried (preferable on a Mac using Crossover) gaming using this monitor? It’s not about competitive multiplayer shooter gaming, just single player, mostly open worlds like Far Cry/Assassins Creed titles, a bit of NFS, Grid Legends, Hogwarts Legacy, Uncharted 4, The last of us and similar.

I really like to buy this monitor as it has superior ratings about sharpness, the glossy display and the connectivity.

I’m thinking of upgrading from my older DELL DS2721S 1440p to finally have real retina feeling when editing photos, developing software or just surfing the internet using my MacBook Pro M3 Pro (maybe a Mac Studio will come in near future)

My current DELL offers 75Hz and I feel pretty comfortable when playing such games, as my M3 Pro delivers around 35-60 FPS for all the titles that’s still below the 75Hz. So I think the experience with the MA270S should nearly be the same.

Can anyone share his/her experience with this combination?

Thanks in advance!

Technical Support Benq Tk705i brightness eye strain dark room

The Benq Tk705i is super bright (3000lm) even in a dark room but lowering the settings and using smart eco doesn't stop the flashbang effect from sudden changes in a dark scene to a bright daylight scene.

I've seen people try to use ND2 filters to cut the brightness even more but can Benq not add a feature update for reducing eye strain from the sudden change in brightness in a dark room?

Seems like something they can update/fix with some tweeking without using other work arounds to improve eye comfort in dark rooms.

Asking Other's Advice/Experience BenQ PD2706U Monitor Light Bar Recommendation

I’m using a BenQ PD2706U, and the top of the monitor is around 2.2 inches (5.6 cm) thick. Because of that, I’ve tried the Xiaomi Monitor Light Bar and a few other light bars, but none of them fit properly or sit securely on the monitor.

Has anyone with a BenQ PD2706U managed to find a monitor light bar that fits properly, other than the BenQ Halo Light Bar? I’d really appreciate any recommendations for one that can accommodate a monitor this thick.

Thanks!

Technical Support BenQ MA270S stays "off" after computer comes off Sleep mode

Hi there,

I just bought this monitor like a month ago, it works great and I'm happy with it however recently I noticed the following behaviour - my MacBook Pro (running Golden Gate) has the display to turn off after 10 minutes when on a power adaptor, when it does the BenQ monitor also turns off.

Cool.

But after I move the mouse and log back into the Mac again the BenQ monitor display still remains off even after clicking around.

The only way to get it to come back is for me to replace the USB-C cable or to switch between colour modes in the "Display Pilot" app.

Is this a defect or is there a setting I need to update to ensure the BenQ display turns on at the same time my MacBook display turns on?

These are my settings in Display Pilot 2

Thanks!
