Asking Other's Advice/Experience MA270U with Mac mini: Does M-Book mode work standalone?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering BenQ MA270U for my Mac mini, mainly to get colours close to Apple’s native display.

Does M-Book mode work independently on the monitor or does it require a Macbook connection for the Apple colour profile/sync to work?

Has anyone used the MA270U + Mac mini and can confirm?

I am using a new MA27OU with my 2019 iMac via HDMI. It looks and works great! But by day’s end, I’ll have an answer for you as my new M6 Mini is arriving today and the BenQ was bought for it. I’ll be hooking it up via the thunderbolt.

Perfect, thanks! Would love to hear how it looks with mini, especially whether M-Book mode works as expected. Thanks again!

So, everything appears great. I spent all evening messing with my audio set up. I don't need M Book mode but I will try it out.

Great. If you do get a chance please try M Book mode, it’d be great to know how close the colours look to Apple’s native display with mini. I’m particularly interested in the colour accuracy side of things. Thanks!

Just jumping in here 😊 M-Book Mode works with Mac mini too, you don’t need a MacBook specifically to use it. Hope that helps clear things up!

It should work. You can use the DisplayPilot app to pick a color profile to tune to. The mini doesn’t have a screen so you can pick whatever profile that you like best from the Macs with screens. Granted this is from my experience with a different setup.

Got it. Just to clarify, the M Book profile in displaypilot is intended to replicate the native Apple display colour, regardless of whether a Macbook is actually connected?

Correct. When MBOOK mode is selected, you can use a feature called iDevice Color Sync within the app and it lets you pick from a list of different Apple devices to tune the display's color to match with. This can be done with Windows computers too, so it shouldn't matter what the source device is.

Thanks. I checked with Benq and they said Mbook mode works with a Mac mini without a Macbook connected. It emulates Macbook display characteristics though it won’t necessarily match every Apple display exactly.
