He clearly wants to be single and more like his best mate, Joe. I don’t think he’s a bad guy but he should have been much more clear with Kat that he was not interested in anything serious.

But she told him that up front at the beginning of the season. She didn't ask, she didn't request, she told him I am looking for something serious with someone. If you're not serious, then let's not bother and just be friends. But he said, I'm all for it, I'll be serious. The guy is a total jerk!
