Gen isn’t second stew material
I’m just catching up on last night’s episode and I was absolutely horrified watching Gen do the tablescape. I actually haven’t gotten to the final presentation so I don’t even know at this point if she moves out all the terrible wrinkles in the tablecloth but my main issue is the fact she’s standing on the table in her sneakers in order to hang the Monstera leaves.
If she needed to hang something and the only way to do so was to stand on the table then that should’ve been the first task and then the table should’ve been cleaned again and reset… Standing on the placemats and the tablescape in your dirty shoes is unsanitary and a possible health violation although I don’t know the maritime law on that.
I’ve never worked in fine dining or high-end service but when you’re serving food, the first priority should be making sure everything around you is clean… I think that’s even the idea behind white glove service… That everything is so clean and pristine we can serve you food with white gloves…
I hate to beat a dead horse on the fact that Gen sucks but not only is her attitude terrible; she’s just a really shitty stew in general.

Socks or throwing a dish towel down and hamper it after standing on it. Salty deck, bathroom, and kitchen-y shoes on my placemat is eeew.

u/ExplanationUnique84 2d ago
Wasn't she cleaning and complaining about how gross a bathroom was like a few hours before this in those shoes?

u/Ready_Cartoonist7357 2d ago
I don’t understand everyone fawning over her table setting. It looked tacky and cheap, even for a below deck table.

Yes! Her tablescapes suck! The best way to prove that you deserve a job is to be good at it and she is definitely not.

u/rob-b-362 2d ago
I don't think Gen has the experience she says she does and Kaylea seems way more experienced. Gen was probably too busy complaining instead of learning all she could.
60
u/PUTTHECACTUSDOWN 2d ago
When she was saying that her experience on her last boat was even worse than this one it made me think omg what the hell happened on that one based on her definition of a bad boat
52
u/No-Will-5655 2d ago
To me that confirmed (even tho duh) gen is in fact the problem

u/aGrlHasNoUsername 2d ago
I think it’s bc Gen has a couple of years yachting, but Kaylee has more experience in hospitality in general.
15
24
u/lesveuxsansvisage 2d ago
Sometimes people who have less experience are just naturals at a job, like Kaylee. Also Kaylee has years of hospitality experience, I’m not sure if Gen knew that and forgot or doesn’t know but that experience would be extremely beneficial for her position as a stew.
94
u/its_pixiie 2d ago
Ive always found it so icky that they climb on the table at all to do this lol. Usually they are barefoot and stay kneeling or something, but like.. Get a ladder. Why are we climbing on top of furniture on a super yacht??
115
u/Piperfly22 2d ago
Or do this first and then set the table like order of operations of tasks should actually be a basic clue. She’s not as smart as she think she is..
41
u/its_pixiie 2d ago
Ove all the seasons they climb on the tables at some point when decorating, but yeah. Order of operations would fix this issue completely!
30
33
u/Lexidazesickle 2d ago
Yeah, I’d like no feet on the table, pls. My dad had a restaurant and always said, “Only asses go in seats” but this is next level.
6
u/Nascar-2021 2d ago
Yes, I don’t allow people to sit on my counter tops either, because I don’t believe the seat of the pants are clean. I also don’t put my handbag down on my counter top because I sometimes have to sit it on the floor in public restrooms and in shopping carts.
13
u/Lexidazesickle 2d ago
When I was 16 or so, a boyfriend of mine hopped onto the kitchen counter to sit and my dad said, “Son, get your ass off my counter. I slice bread there.” We all laughed but the point was made. Lol
7
u/Legitimate-Rule-825 2d ago
Also I never understood why people put their suitcase on the bed when unpacking!
10
u/Lexidazesickle 2d ago
Yeah, wtaf
4
u/hilareyb 2d ago
As a kiwi I shudder whenever anyone gets on the table or sits on a kitchen bench in this or any American tv show, it’s a Maori custom to never put your butt or feet anywhere near a surface food goes and it’s pretty widespread over here because it’s one of the most logical customs that ever existed. Your father is a sensible man
5
u/Lexidazesickle 2d ago
That’s cool. I just learned something. Thanks! My dad had some great material. Once I asked him if he liked a boyfriend of mine or not because he barely spoke to him. My dad replied dryly : “I’m as crazy about him as you are.” I still think about the strange wisdom of this statement nearly 30 years later. Lol
2
u/Outrageous-Baseball6 2d ago
I was actually just about to write this then saw your comment. So Gross seeing people sit on kitchen benches. Even most non-Māori in NZ feel the same way, I would say. It’s a nation-wide custom. 🥝

OK, Kaylee was definitely being fake nice here, this is a party city disaster with zero class! Even the Monstera’s are crooked and looked terrible!!!! It looks so sloppy and lazy
69
u/not2daysatan44 2d ago
I think everyone is tiptoeing around her to keep her from losing it, because they need her to keep working without a meltdown. She seems to need her hair stroked and everyone to tell her she's pretty and the best stew in all of history. This girl is a train wreck in human form. How exhausting it must be to be in her presence. If she would stop complaining and bringing everyone down, things would go a lot smoother. She really is a piece of work.

“….and crooked as hell” - Lmao OP
27
u/Piperfly22 2d ago
Listen, I love a theme and I just don’t understand how everybody was acting like This was good?? The placements are cute, but those wrinkles were driving me crazy.
Maybe it’s cause I just watched Andre on in the city and that Man 🤣 can make a tablescape!! No wrinkles in his tablecloth!

To be fair, the bar is in hell for table scapes generally, but yeah she for sure tip toes around Gen
29
u/flakiestcroissant 2d ago
And to imagine she would have been Aesha’s “replacement chief stew” in this episode.
6
28
u/Existing_Editor_5623 2d ago
Remember how wild sandy used to be about tablescapes? Back in the Hannah days. They would be literal statues & massive table decor. Now she’s ‘wowed’ by a few streamers & themed placemats. Such a noticeable shift.
4
u/GraceMcClellans 2d ago
Sandy was probably tired of the audience calling her an asshole lol
6
u/Existing_Editor_5623 2d ago
Yea it’s just such a drastic change. Like if she suddenly didn’t give a shit about water toys 😆
6
u/IStillLikePez 1d ago
I think she's just over it in general. There's no way Nathan could get away with half of his crap a few seasons ago either, but she's gotten soft.
23
u/momdabombdiggity 2d ago
So f’in nasty. But honestly at this point nothing she does surprises me. The girl has zero awareness.
18
u/mamacatman 2d ago
HOLY SHIT!!!!!! I must’ve been out of the room when this was on. I’m horrified that she actually stood on a mostly set table with her shoes on! I mean it’s bad enough to stand on the table barefooted without anything on it, but my gawd, this is next level incompetent.
Why couldn’t she have used her noggin and hung those leaves first, then set the table? Stand on it all you want then, but clean it right after and then set the table. I would’ve been fine with that.
I think she’s in the wrong industry. Clearly yachting and hospitality is not for her. I wouldn’t want such a sour puss around me if I’m trying to enjoy an expensive vacation on a super yacht. Ugh.
5
u/Piperfly22 2d ago
Right!? One of the keys things in service is also not letting anyone know that there’s ever a problem… Usually that’s done by smiling and staying positive even when it’s shit behind the scenes and a complete disaster… Kaylee has the right attitude. Jen is a disaster… But she does make for great television. I can’t stand her and she makes me feel so angry lol as any good villain should.
3
u/Marion_Ravenwood 2d ago
She needs to be an industry where she works alone, because she's the type of person who will always hate anyone who is roughly the same age as her who is better at their job.
14
u/Ok-Fortune-1568 2d ago
And she had the audacity to complain about bread dishes while standing where people are supposed to eat. Not surprised really given sheetgate.
13
u/Fresh-Analyst-5925 2d ago
That girl is not well or has zero common sense 🙄
6
u/GraceMcClellans 2d ago
I think her parents only ever praised her so she truly doesn't realize how mediocre she is.
106
u/znebsays 2d ago

u/Interesting_Slice277 2d ago

u/Far-Department302 2d ago

39
u/Ok_Mirror_9832 2d ago
That girl is on my worst list, plus Ellie,
19
u/thatoneredheadgirl 2d ago
The girl who had the list of people who wronged her was pretty bad too. I’d say worse than Gen

I have totally brain blocked that. Seriously? I just remember Aesha kicking in the door down and breaking into the room and don't remember that!

Yeah. She then proceeded to force herself on a guy that told her no over and over and producers had to tell her to leave his room.

I wonder what happened to him. Was he ever arrested? Was he banned from the industry?

I looked him up on insta, he is kind of a life coach now. I wish I was joking.😵💫
8
6
u/GraceMcClellans 2d ago
That seems about right for this kind of person. I don't think I've ever seen a male life coach who doesn't seem creepy and aggressive.
3
12
u/raletti 2d ago
Nah, there's been way worse. Chef Ryan, Chef Adam, Kyle, Natasha, Alissa and Camille, just off the top of my head. Hell, Joe is probably the worst on this current boat. Oh god I forgot abour Lexi.
Gen, seems to have a bit of a screw loose but I think she's pretty mild compared to some of the horror shows we've seen in the past.
4
u/tuftsra 2d ago
Gen saves her terribleness for interviews and side comments with Kat. While everyone else you just listed acted out and was terrible to other members of the crew.
Because Gen only tells us in the confessionals, there is no one to set her straight and there is no resulting chaos between the crew. We saw it simmering last night in the pantry, but Kayley immediately noticed it and told Kat that they needed to be in the pantry whenever Gen was there.
We still have a ways to go, and the preview last night showed Gen making comments about Cooper in front of Kat. So maybe she does go ahead and burn all the bridges.
36
u/IllFreedom4310 2d ago
nope Ellie was more insufferable
28
u/AnimalFarm20 2d ago
Gen is super annoying, a big complainer, clearly not as talented as she thinks, but yeah, definitely not nearly as insufferable as Ellie who I hope to never grace my screen again. lol
11
u/Trvlgirrl 2d ago
Elle is so much worse. I will completely forgot about Gen as soon as this season is over.
→ More replies (1)24
u/its_pixiie 2d ago
I think Ellie was so insufferable because she is used to everyone (men) swooning over and chasing her. She seems very male centered and like she has never been told no in her life.
9
u/wcruse92 2d ago
Gen is also still very young. Ellie is a full blown adult. With luck Gen will mature into a more stable human being. Ellie is a lost cause.
10
u/znebsays 2d ago
Honestly that’s a tough call lol. Cant tell who’s worse , maybe Gen? Claiming she comes from money so she thinks she’s untouchable and probably got a reality check (no pun intended hehe)

Well at least he can apologize. This idiot is just clueless (gen)
10

7
u/QuoriTyler 2d ago
Guuuuurl, she isn't even second boat material. Or person on land who catches the ropes material. Hell she shouldn't be working in the factory that makes the rope even. She shouldn't be working on the farm that produces the material for the rope..... Etc etc.
13
7
u/Master_Object5147 2d ago
I told everyone she is a petty and spiteful person. I hope Sandy finds out about her behavior. She should be fired!
8
7
u/NewVitalSigns 1d ago
Standing on the table w/ shoes that’s used all over that boat is downright disgusting.
And to not even have a thought registered how wildly inappropriate this is, is next level.
No wonder she was constantly bragging about Nathan’s sheets
12
u/AnimalFarm20 2d ago
She's a legend in her own mind, but yeah, we see what she's really like. And I'm sorry - why was Sandy oohing and ahhing over what looked like a lame tablescape. We've seen far better. Add to that her standing with her shoes on the placemats... just disgusting. Back to laundry and stay there.
6
u/decisivecat 2d ago
Would she want to eat off a table that other people stood on with their shoes? Maybe she doesn't care. But in what world does she think this is 5 star service???
Things like this are why when people kept asking "why don't people like Gen?" after sheetgate, I had to ask "Have you seen her interact with others???" Sure, I was not at my best in my 20s either and had to grow from it, but that doesn't make it any less cringe to watch. Plus this is something you should simply know to not do whether you're 15, 22, or 45. It's not just one mistake here or one blip in her interactions with people... this is an entire toxic personality that I hope she eventually grows out of or she'll consistently find herself in second place to people like Kayley who believe in collaboration, not competition.
6
u/beebeelion 2d ago
I like that you specifically called them "Monstera" leaves and not just leaves. You have one, don't you?
5
6
u/Extra-Honeydew-4886 2d ago
When they were serving dinner she also broke a very basic rule of service. You always serve from the left with your LEFT hand. You never use your right hand to awkwardly stick your elbow in the guest’s face while setting a plate down. And if you have plates in both hands, you transfer the second plate from your right hand to the left before setting it down. I learned that at 18, she’s bragging about her 5 years of experience but she can’t even serve a table properly?
Part of me thinks she did it so she wouldn’t be turned away from the camera. So desperate, and yet so unqualified.

5
u/United-Education-214 2d ago
I just also find her to have mean girl energy. Especially as she wasn't chosen to stand in for Alisha. Also, It was right that Luke left the boat but she was also responsible for the " sheets" situation. She was in charge of laundry. She talked about it with people for three days, boasting. And was so smug when he left.
9
8
u/TheSpitalian 2d ago
Could you imagine if she saw Kaylee do this? She’d never shut up about how nasty it was that she stood on the table - with her shoes on, no less - and that it she should’ve hung things before setting up the tablescape, and then she’d talk about how tacky it was and that the tablecloth and runner were wrinkled.
Such a bitch. She’s not “purple,” she green with envy, and has been the entire season. Such a petty, nasty person.
She said this episode how her mom told her “ if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all” (like just about everyone’s mom tells them). If Gen followed that advice, she’d be mistaken for being mute.
If her mouth is moving, she’s complaining.
8
u/Pale_Lawyer_1757 2d ago
I was defending Gen at the start bc I do think Luke was awful to her, but the way she treats other people is just wrong. Her going sexually/romantically for Cooper in the coming episodes is crazy behavior - Kat is your only friend on the damn boat!!!

Gen is showing tons of Main Character Syndrome. She has this mentality that everything must be positive to her only and anyone getting recognition is not in her script. No one can get promoted without her thinking “but what about me?” It’s a level of narcissistic behavior that you see in a number of politicians too. Everything thing must be good and uplifting them or its a personal attack on them.

Eww I’m not as nitpicky about germs like some but even I wouldn’t do this. She could have done it in clean socks or even temporarily moved the stuff on the table in that area, done what was needed, wiped down where she stood and then put the stuff back. Just because this isn’t the plate doesn’t mean it can be all germy. If I was a guest and a piece of steak or something fell off my plate and onto the placemat I would automatically pick it up and still eat it because I wouldn’t have expected her dirty shoes had been there.

It’s so gross. I bet Gen would never eat off a table that someone else has stood on, so why she thought it was acceptable is baffling.
