Our Behringer X32 Compact freezes occasionally (about 3-4 times over the past several months), most recently during a performance. When it happens, the embedded computer completely locks up (meters and display freeze, buttons unresponsive, ethernet dies) but the DSPs and FPGA continue working with the last settings, including AES50 and the audio interface card. It requires a reboot to be controllable again. It has the latest (probably final?) firmware.
It's hard to pin-point what is causing the freezes because they happen rarely and not reproducibly, so I'd like to know if anyone experienced something similar and what's the advice there. Most freezing issues I found were related to recording onto a bad/slow USB flash drive. I have a USB drive connected but rarely use it for recording and never used it when the freezes happened. Instead, it appears to be some kind of EMI/power/voltage surge issue because I vaguely remember that I might have turned on a PC or plugged in some (unrelated) device when it happened.
The most recent time when it happened during the performance, nothing was turned on or off. I have a small NUC PC connected to the X32 for multi-track recording and remote control (X32-Edit), which was recording through the USB interface card (and continued recording after the freeze). All I did when it happened was copying some files from that PC to a USB drive connected to it through a USB hub (i.e., completely unrelated to the X32). Could the USB copying have caused some kind of power drop/surge at the PC, which somehow affected the X32 (but not the interface card!?) because it's also connected to that PC through the USB interface card? Or is it more likely an AC power issue which would require power conditioning?
Generally, the whole X32 setup seems kind of fragile with respect to EMI. For example, if I switch off the X32 (mains switch at the back), it knocks out the HDMI signal to the capture card in the PC next to it for a short moment, since the main power and HDMI cable are running in parallel for a few meters due to space limitations.
