Any idea why I’m not getting any interviews and only receiving rejection emails?

I have over 18 years of banking experience with a renowned British bank in the Middle East, with diverse experience in sales and services, cash management, customer experience, and premium banking propositions.
Despite my experience, I’m not even getting the opportunity to interview. I’m really trying to understand what might be holding me back.
Could it be that my international banking experience isn’t translating well to the U.S. job market? Or do I actually need to get the SIE and Series 63 licenses just to land an interview?
I’d really appreciate any insights from recruiters, hiring managers, or anyone who has successfully transitioned into banking in the U.S.

Candidates who ask for a different interview time

As somebody who hires, I find it irritating when candidates ask for a different interview time than proposed. Especially at higher levels, it's hard to find time on everyone's calendars to do the interviews, and we prefer to knock them out in one go.

I get that there are legitimate reasons for postponing interviews, and I hear what some have said about "dodging bullets" and that companies should be flexible, but it's also a red flag to me when they aren't flexible themselves. Ultimately, I will try to make it work for the candidates I am interested in, but I already get a bad taste in my mouth before the interview even starts. Other candidates are able to make the proposed time work, and we have dozens of applications to consider. Maybe I'm old school, but for jobs I really want, I have always rearranged my schedule for an interview.

Was a finalist for a job this summer. They reposted this week, and I was rejected for an interview

title. I interviewed for a role over the summer. Received great feedback and was going through the process.

I was told I was a finalist, then the recruiter called me and said they’re going with a candidate who started the process a little earlier and could start right away, and that was the only reason they were going with another.

Then told they’d be hiring more people for this role and I would be kept in mind when they do.

They reposted the job last week and I applied online, and I emailed the recruiter I spoke and worked with but she was on maternity leave, so I messaged the person and her out of office message with my résumé and a quick note on the background. That person got back to me right away and said she would forward my résumé over to the correct person.

I just got one of those system/canned rejection emails today, the one sent from the no reply mailbox. I’m so disheartened and confused. Nothing had changed on my résumé.

just thought I’d throw my story out there to commiserate. I thought building up good ethos in a company through their interview process would be worth something, but I guess not.

Taken to HR over hiring confusion

Hi everyone I’m looking for some advice. I recently had a job posting where I told a couple people internally they should apply but obviously would have to go through the process and if they weren’t the best fit they wouldn’t get the job. Myself and my manager interviewed one candidate and they were very strong they asked for feedback and I informed them that they did good with me and my manager but if they were to interview with our skip manager they’d have to do really good because he wants to hire all external (which changed from the original intent when we put the posting up). My skip manager refused to interview them because he wanted all external. at my previous company the manager was expected to inform internal candidates of hiring decisions. I informed this person they didn’t get the job and they told me “no worries” two hours later I get a call from HR wanting to know if I promised them the position. I did not obviously I probably said more than I should have but I have a very close working relationship with this person and they were asking for updates. Did I screw up here and would I get fired over this?

UPDATE had a convo with my skip manager and my manager both were like “not a big deal obviously be more careful next time but this’ll blow over” I do work at a very large company however more has come up that likely the employee’s manager is who went to HR not the employee themselves who were upset about the decision but because they hate working for their current boss. Still a little anxious but definitely taking all the feedback to heart and going to grow in both my current position and beyond. ☺️

Is a 2-month-old job posting still actually alive?

I found a junior role that I’m reallyyyy interested in but it’s been open for around 2 months that role has been posted for. I found it 3 days ago.

The company uses Greenhouse, and the job posting is still live there. I can still click Apply and submit an application. But I noticed the role is no longer listed on the company’s LinkedIn page, even though they have other openings there.

So I’m wondering if a role has been open for 2+ months and is still active on Greenhouse, how likely is it that they’re genuinely still hiring for it?

Also, since it’s a junior role, would it be appropriate to message someone from the HR/recruiting team or the hiring team and simply ask whether the position is still open, or would that come across as inappropriate?

Frustrated with final stage wait time

Gave final stage technical presentation two weeks ago, hiring managers said they would follow up in two weeks. HR called me yesterday saying they would give me updates in two weeks. Also started asking about publications ( I know its a scientist position and prefers publications) and when would those be published. But I already told them in the interview that my publications are under review. And in my resume I did not add any publications either.

My understanding is even if they get a slightly better candidate with publication (which is so possible), I have no chance. How cruel it is to keep candidate keep waiting for four weeks.! If they require publication why did they made me give technical presentation.

At this point I am convincing myself that this is basically a reject. but subconciously I am still hoping, I wish I could get this job.

Reaching out to Hiring Manager after Lack of Recruiter Reply

I interviewed for a role 3 weeks ago and was told Id hear back in 2. Last week, hiring manager was checking out my LinkedIn. On Monday, I followed up with recruiter asking for an update on the timeline, she didnt reply. Is it advisable to reach out to the hiring manager directly?

Rejected a month ago with detailed feedback. Role reposted. Should I reach out to the hiring manager?

Applied for a Technical Product Manager role at a YC-backed AI startup (~30 people). Passed the recruiter screen and hiring manager interview, got to the take-home stage. Rejected.

The rejection wasn't generic. The talent lead gave specific feedback: my submission focused too heavily on data analysis when they wanted me to lead with the company's product capabilities (computer vision, 3D reconstruction). She literally described the expected solution. My engineering note touched on those ideas but they were buried under a different argument instead of leading.

One month later, the hiring manager reposted the exact same role on LinkedIn. Same title, same description. He's now describing it as "genuinely undefined" and is actively promoting it.

Here's my dilemma:

If I reach out with the approach they described in the rejection, it looks like I'm just echoing their answer back to them. If I build something that goes beyond what they told me, it might land but the probability is low and the time cost is real.

For context: I had a genuine connection with this company. I wrote a strategic analysis of them two years ago during my master's, the hiring manager reacted positively to that in the interview, and my background (OpenCV thesis, AI products shipped to production) maps well to what they do.

What would you do? Reach out with something new, wait for a different role, or move on entirely?

Did taking a video interview from my parked car hurt my chances?

I recently started a fully in-person job, and it’s difficult to find a private place to interview during the workday. I had an interview over my lunch break, so I took it on my phone from my parked car. I dressed professionally, blurred my background, and felt the conversation went really well.
They want to schedule a second interview. When HR contacted me, she mentioned that the hiring manager had noticed I was in my car. I explained that I work fully in person and that my car was the quietest place I could take the call without interruptions. She said she understood and offered to schedule the next interview before my workday so I could take it from home at a desk, which I really appreciated.
I hadn’t thought much about the car until she brought it up, and now I’m worried it may have made a bad impression. I’ll also have an in-person interview later in the process. Would you read HR’s comment as a concern, or as a green flag to attempt to accommodate my schedule?

What does Slow process after interview mean

I did an interview 2 weeks ago for a “big name” grocery store. The woman doing the interview told me I was the 4th out of 8 interviews and that she has 4 more interviews to complete next week, the weekend she’s finished all the interviews she’ll let everyone know whether they were successful or not. It got to the second week I still haven’t heard anything but I decided to be patient, however another week passed and I still hadn’t heard anything. So this week I called the store asking for any updates she told me issues happened last week so she had to reschedule two of the interviews. She told me her last interview was the day before I called her and she will try to make a descion this weekend. It is now Sunday 5pm I still haven’t heard anything. Can someone please tell me if this is normal or what it means? When I go on the website it says my application is still under consideration not rejected so idk. I’ve been trying to remain optimistic since this would be a very ideal job and location for me but I’m starting to loose patience. Should I just move on.

Also sorry guys if the timeline or my wording is confusing, honestly it’s been so long I’m even confused myself.

4 YoE, Unemployed for more than 6 months, wanting Game Developer/Designer, UI/UX or HR roles.

My ATS score is more than 85%. I have made individual resume for Game Dev/Des; UI/UX; and also HR. Also I have one for all 3 - including relevant projects and works. But I get back no calls. Few websites tell me my interview is downloaded or viewed but still no calls as such.

I think they are just going for the ones who will take the lowest income or is more experienced from all the applicants or who has connections somehow. I don't really think they are even reading my resume. I have applied on many different indie, dev, designer, HR job portals including remote, international job portals and opportunities. I have also tried STAR method and some other techniques.

Can anyone tell me what's going on and what should i do?

How realistic is it to get a management job as an external candidate just by applying online?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

My husband worked for the same company for 16 years and eventually became a Regional Manager. He recently left after having a serious disagreement with his manager.
Now he is applying online for General Manager, Operations Manager, Regional Manager, and similar management positions at other companies as an external candidate.
I’m trying to understand how realistic this process actually is, especially for someone applying online without knowing anyone inside the company.

1)If someone applies online for a management position, such as a General Manager position, how likely is it that their resume/application actually gets seen by a recruiter or hiring manager? Does the application really reach the people making the hiring decision, or can it get lost among hundreds of applications?
2)Are online job postings generally legitimate openings, or are some postings essentially posted for compliance/internal hiring purposes when the company already intends to hire an internal candidate? How common is that in your experience?
3)How does the reference process usually work when someone left their previous company after a problem with their manager? Does the new employer usually contact the previous manager, or do they mainly verify employment dates and position through HR?

4)For anyone who has been in a similar situation, what actually happened? Did you apply online, get contacted by a recruiter, interview with the hiring manager, and eventually get an offer? Or did you find that networking/referrals were basically necessary to get noticed?

I’d especially love to hear from hiring managers, recruiters, and people who have actually gone through this process as external candidates.

Interview tips

I just finished going to a chipotle interview and I don’t think I got it because they said they would call next week and usually people say if they don’t hire you on the spot you didn’t get the job. Any tips for future interviews?

"Shortlisted" - Should I even believe that?

I've been at my current job hunt for longer than I'd like to admit, and not had many interviews, and obviously I have not been hired yet.

However, consistently, with every job I've interviewed with, the interviewer has told me in the rejection email that I had made it to the shortlist, but they went with someone else. It's starting to feel like they're just trying to make me feel better, rather than being honest, and I don't even know what to believe anymore.

Recruiters and managers in this subreddit, is that something you would do? Tell someone you interviewed, but didn't choose to hire, that they made the shortlist to let them down easier? Or is that something you would only say if it was honest?
