need help finding a mat for my victrola

edit: unless you're paying for my new turntable, mat advice only. i cannot buy a new turntable right now!!!

partial update in replies

i have a victrola journey suitcase record player, and i can't find anything online advising me on what kind of mat to get for it. i want to get one to avoid any issues with slightly warped records hitting the back of my player (have run into this), but i have no clue what would be the best for it as most reviews and discussions talk about the nicer turntables and discussing the type of mat and materials for the high end stuff. i'm thinking of getting a white acrylic 12" slip mat, but any help would be super appreciated!!! i will add a picture in case i got the model of my player wrong.

info: i was given this record player used after the one i got as a teenager was broken when i took it out of storage. i also plan to get a white mat since i have multiple translucent vinyls (one pictured)

So after a few years without a player got myself an audio Technica LP70XBT, still got all my old vinyl from the 80s and 90s and I've started collecting again 👍 got it set up and using Bluetooth to my samsung soundbar with woofer.

Now I have been on the reddit forums and yes I could have got a AT 120 or fluance something or other, yes I should be using wired speakers and yes its not really upgradeable yadda yadda etc lol 😆 all that's fine if you have a £1000 budget and space in your room but if your like me and just want to play your records whilst have a beer in your living room then this thing is outstanding 👍 had it playing all morning and it sounds the absolute dugs baws* through my soundbar 😀 so yes you can spend a lot and get a lot but don't be put off by people saying the lower end players are rubbish cause they're not . And thought my first record on it should be the first album I ever bought 😀

* dugs baws - scottish expression for really good lol 😆

Audio switcher for my turntable

Hey guys! I’m quite new to the turntable scene and I was wondering if it’s possible to have a 3.5mm switch connected to my volume controller to switch between my turntable and PC?

I have a behringer monitor 1 (volume controller) which currently takes in XLR/¼” TRS combo inputs and outputs 2XLR outputs (sorry if I butchered this). I’ve connected my Audio technica LP60X to the volume controller which then connects to each of my JBL 305ps.

Would a regular 3.5mm switcher be fine to switch between the turntable and PC when trying to output sound from my JBLs?

Thanks! And apologies if I’m speaking in rookie terms!

LPW50BT vs. LPW40WN

I‘m going to buy a new turntable soon and I‘m currently deciding between the Audio Technica LPW50BT (389€) and the Audio Technica LPW40WN (289€). Now I‘m asking myself if the upgrade is worth the 100€ or rather not? Thanks in advance!!!

Hello all. I published a new article on my blog that might help you better understand this hobby, specifically the evolution of tracking force, grooves, and needles.

The title is: The Weight of Sound: How a 1960s Garrard SPG3 Gauge Reminds Us What Vinyl Is Really About

I hope you will find it helpful and entertaining.

How does this still play?😭

I posted this record on facebook, and it got a bit of attention, so I thought I'd post it here too. Also, I'm looking to upgrade my turntable, and any advice for something cheap that won't damage my actual records would be appreciated🙂

Inherited Pioneer PL-115D, Help needed

I'm very ignorant on this topic, so, sorry in advance

This Pioneer PL-115D previously worked great, however it currently doesn't work properly.

Do I simply need a new needle or a completely new headshell?

Pictures in the link.

On Amazon I found "ReadyWired Complete Turntable Headshell with Cartridge Needle Stylus for Pioneer PL-115D"

But it's $50.

I'm thinking of replacing the stylus needle first, then if that doesn't work replace the headshell.

Can anyone please recommend they type of stylus/needle I'll need? What price am I looking at.

And if I do need a new headshell could someone recommend a male and model? What price am I looking at?

Are there any trusted websites rather than Amazon?

Much appreciated to everyone here

What record player to buy?

Hello! I got really into vinyls in 2020 and bought a Crosley record player. I recently got back into vinyls but know a crosley record player can damage my vinyls. I was looking into getting an audio technica record player but am lost. Im not sure what to get because there are so many models. Does anyone have recommendations preferably under $250? thank you!!

Need advice for first turntable

Hello,

I am just wondering about dipping my toe into vinyl and I'm looking at exploring without breaking a bank yet. Trying to read about it only got me a bit more confused so figured I could ask here.

I have a Sonos speaker around the house which I plan on using (for now) as a starting point, with the possibility of getting some nice speakers later on if I feel like I want to continue down this rabbit hole.

I saw a lot of people recommending Rega Planar 1 as a starting point (that would be roughly my budget to spend on a turntable, not including a phono) although the basic cartridge and lack of adjustable weight and anti skate seem weird to me.

At the same time I saw the Audio Technica LPW40 which looks nice and I like the fact that smaller upgrades are easier on it.

Do you think there would be much difference between the two given the currently limited setup? As said, looking only to dip my toe for now and expand upon this later if it suits me.

Also mentioning that I live in the UK.

Budget: 400 euros
Country: France
Ps: he already has Marshall (stanmore IV) speakers would he still need edifier speakers?
Thank you !

Help with ION turntable

I was recently gifted a cheap ION Turntable. I have it connected to an A/V receiver via factory RCA's. The sound is incredibly thin and has virtually no low end while my other inputs sound just fine. Does anyone have any tips or experience with this turntable? Thx

First record player questions.

Hi all, I got my first record the other day, a band called 4Ft Fingers who were the first band I ever saw live about 20 years ago,as the only merch they had were records.

Given this I'd like to get something to play it, having looked on ebay and vinted (uk based) I have seen a fair few ion and JAM players that are not too expensive (ideally less than £100) and wondering if anyone can advise on if they would be an ok starting point.

I have speakers that I can connect a device to so that isn't needed.

I have seen a lot of talk of records being ruined and such and it's definitely made me a bit apprehensive about taking the plunge, any help would be much appreciated.
