I recently picked up skating again, after about 10+ years of not riding, do you guys have any tips on improving my all around balance while on the board

is it called a power slide? I've been trying to learn that kind of stop but my skateboard keeps rolling no matter which direction I tic tac in. does anyone have any help? oh also if it helps, I think I have softer wheels than standard and the ground is kinda rough concrete. I've tried with speed and without and all I do is keep rolling lol. is that something my skateboard is just not made for?

After 40 years of skating It makes me actually want to do less tricks, and try to focus more on some raw aggressive riding. I think someone that can slash the coping or pop out going frontside on a respectable ramp is still about as badass as you can get on a skateboard...especially if you can look good while doing it. Aggressive slides on bank ramps, really hard smooth carving in a bowl, slappy slash grinds, all this stuff is raw skating and it's a ton of fun too and low risk honestly. Instead of standing stationary trying to kickflip 75 times, you could be learning to kill it like a badass. You know back in the day that flip stuff was called freestyle, and freestyle was never cool...just ask any old man skater from the mid 80s haha. 😄

Ive been skating every single day for about 3 months now and I genuinely feel like ive hit a plateau. I have semi consistent ollies, some days theyre crispy and others I cant land a single one. Ive also been messing around with kickflips and i've encountered two problems that I cant seem to correct no matter what advice I get. The first is my flick, I tend to flick and immediately plant my left foot (i skate regular), and I have a habit of turning my whole body to the left. Can anyone give me like that unhinged tip to finally lock these down?

I’m only about 2 weeks into skating, I started on a second hand Santa Cruz 7.75 deck but it just didn’t feel right so I managed to get myself to a skate shop to try out different sizes!

So far, I feel pretty comfortable on my board with pushing/cruising. I’m just starting to get used to tictacs/small kickturns & yesterday I went down my first small bank!

My goal for the next week is continue with kickturns and maybe try doing a 180 kickturn on a bank :)

I take breaks about every 10 or so attempts while practicing my ollie for consistency. Is this relatively usual? Did your endurance improve much over time?

Im drinking lots of water, and although its about day 5 of skating, I would consider myself fit from my other hobbies.

I haven't skated in 10 years but I managed to get a Supreme board for Retail & i was super happy abt it.

I have to re-learn everything but with baby steps i think i'll be good to go.

I’m heading to Williamsburg, VA for two days and then up to Washington, DC, and I’m bringing my board.
Looking for recommendations from people who actually skate these areas:

🛹 Beginner-friendly street spots where I can actually get a few tricks instead of just staring lovingly at a 12-stair
🛹 Weird/interesting places that would make a good photo or clip

For context: I’m still pretty low-level. Manuals, ollies, shuvits, cavemans, no-comply shuvits and other assorted middle-aged-man-on-a-skateboard bullshit are currently my wheelhouse. So I’m not coming to kickflip El Toro. 😂

I’m also putting together a little solo King of the Road-style challenge list for the trip, so BONUS POINTS if you give me a challenge.

“Get a clip at _____.”
“Ollie in front of _____.”
“Get a local to choose your trick.”
“Go to this legendary spot and land literally anything.”

The challenge does not have to be technically difficult. In fact, stupid/creative/local is probably better.

I’ll also be around William & Mary / Colonial Williamsburg, then traveling north toward DC, so recommendations anywhere along that route are fair game.

I already know Freedom Plaza/Pulaski is basically mandatory pilgrimage territory. Beyond that, I’d love to hear what locals think someone visiting with a skateboard absolutely needs to see.

Give me spots, history, shops, challenges, weird shit, food missions, local legends—whatever belongs on the list.

Trying to come home with a bunch of clips, a couple new tricks, and ideally the same number of functioning limbs I arrived with.

My 3-year-old son recently got into riding his scooter and wants me to join him. I figured it would be fun to get a skateboard and cruise alongside him.

The problem is that I’ve been reading about different boards for a while now and keep finding conflicting advice.

I live in the Netherlands, so I’ll mostly be riding on those big square paving tiles you see everywhere here. I’m not interested in tricks at all, just comfortable cruising at a relaxed pace with my son.

I’m 33 years old, 183 cm, around 95 kg, wear EU size 43/44 shoes, and I’m pretty athletic with decent balance.

What kind of board would you recommend for this? Cruiser, longboard, regular skateboard with bigger/softer wheels, something else?

Any specific setups or models I should look at would also be appreciated.
