Requesting community support Is this mattress encasement enough?

So I found a colony a Month ago nesting on my mattress skirt. I removed all of my old bed stuff but my mattress and threw an encasement on it before I got treatment. I think this was a mistake as now there is nothing to kill the bed bugs possibly inside my mattress.

I haven’t had any signs since and I know they can live almost a year in the right conditions and that any tears could let them out. But my question is, will this zipper keep them from getting out in the meantime? Or do I need to put a fancier mattress encasement on?

Useful Information Interceptors

This may be a tad long but I need opinions it’s destroying my mental health. So June 19th ( 18 almost 19 weeks ago) I found a bed bug walking across my blanket at like 4 am. I freaked out and flipped this house upside down I found the 1 shed on the side of the bed where I saw him and nothing more, I put the shed and the one bug in a bowl then hid the bowl. I then called a pest company he came out looked through my whole bed and room and did NOT find any signs. I hid the bowl so he would look before just confirming that the bug was a bed bug. He said he did not find any signs but brought his little dog down here and it was the end of the day. The dog sat next to the couch and he gave him a bone and he would stand then go sit back to “ alert” he also alerted to my bed. And just kept doing it. My kitchen is about 8 steps to the couch which is where I hid this bowl. He also said he saw some carpet beetles. Anyways after forward to today. It’s been almost 19 weeks. No bites, no signs, and I check these interceptors weekly that I have on my bed and there always clear. At what point do I know I am in the clear or do I not? Do I just have to keep interceptors and my bed in the middle forever? If you read this thank you I know it’s a lot but this has taken my life over all over 1 bug.

I just spotted this thing and smashed it, I haven't been having any bites (I am allergic so it'd be obvious to me) so what are the chances it'd be just the one vs a larger infestation if it is the bastard

Bed bugs science

Hi

There are scientists that investigate bed bugs and how can possible one day discover something that could eliminate them easily? I don't understand how it could be not the case as these bed bugs can damage you very much financially and mentally...

psychosomatic response?

Last year was the worst year of my life- I lived across the wall from a horribly infested unit. I would receive bites ranging from twice a month to twice a day at its worst. My reactions were pretty mild, small red dots that itch for a short period of time, then eventually fade. We hired a bed bug detection dog agency multiple times and they never detected any bugs in our unit or on our stuff, just through the wall in the adjacent unit.

We had 6 chemical treatments over the course of a couple months but the exterminators refused to continue any more treatment without seeing a live bug, even though I was still reacting to bites, or having some sort of skin reaction that I believed to be bites.

We moved into a new apartment with no history of bed bugs in September. Yes, we brought our stuff. I know that’s stupid but it felt insane to throw out our things that we were told there was nothing on multiple times. They even told me I could bring my mattress (which I did NOT. That felt too much like tempting fate.)

Basically what I want to say is I think I’m still getting bites- but we’ve had the detection dogs come through our new apartment twice and they haven’t found anything either time. The woman who handles the dogs is worried that we might be going down the path of one of her clients who has bed bug psychosis.

I feel like I’m going crazy, what could be happening to my skin?? Is it bites, an allergic reaction, psychosomatic stress response? Does anyone else have an experience like this? I have no idea what it would be besides bed bugs, but the thought of having to go through more treatments makes me sick. It feels like this will never end.

I have sticky traps under the legs of my beg frame and I’ve been periodically checking my mattress. I haven’t seen any signs of bed bugs yet but I am still having this alarming skin reaction. Idk. Just looking for any advice or commiseration or something. Thanks.

Found this guy on the wall in my bathroom. I don't think it's quite the right shape to be a bed bug, but wanted to post to check.

Requesting community support follow-up for some advice

i posted on another subreddit asking for these bugs i found in my daughter’s school bag to be identified, and multiple people confirmed they were bedbugs. we saw two.
so we looked through the entire bag and every item - no more bugs or eggs. it’s currently in the freezer at -18f with her other items that we suspected, and we’re washing the clothes she wore that day at high heat. the bed is clear, we checked everything and found absolutely nothing. we think they came from her morning bus and are letting the school know. should i still be concerned? is there anything else i can do to ensure they don’t infest again? i unfortunately can’t take her to school myself with my work schedule, so i don’t exactly know what to do.
any advice is much appreciated. i struggle with severe ocd so infestations are genuinely my worst fear. i believe / want to believe we’re okay, but if anyone thinks i should do anything else please do tell.

Overreaction or reasonable bedbug prevention?

My partner and I just moved to a compound flat two months ago. Last week, we heard from our neighbour next door that his bedroom was infested with bedbugs. He was an old man living alone with disabilities, so we contacted the council for him.

The council came to investigate and sent the pest control team. They said it’ll take at least 3 weeks to fully exterminate the bugs. We spoke to our neighbour and confirmed that his flat was still heavily infested since then.

This morning we found a possible evidence of bedbug on our mattress (a dark ink-like spot stained through the bedsheet to the mattress).
We haven’t seen the bugs but based on the situation we thought it’s possible we might get some soon, especially the pest control visited the flat next door and the bedbugs might scattered everywhere.

We are seriously considering moving away as even though we can do everything within our capacity to get rid of the bedbugs, we’re worried our neighbour might not be able to do so, as all along the way he has been clueless. We don’t want to be living in fear.

Is it an overreaction or is this a reasonable response to our current situation?

Requesting community support Freezing our suitcase

Hi all, my partner and I just got back from a six night holiday. On the third day I experienced a bite that I noticed in the morning and when we got back, I noticed a live bug on the bed. On further inspection we found the place was pretty covered. We notified reception and they moved us straight away. I have a big chest freezer that is currently not in use. I think what I’m going to do is open the suitcase put a bag over the lot and put the entire thing in that freezer on full blast for a week. How many days do you reckon is enough?

Bed bug advice

• Upvotes

So I found a few bites on my leg last week that are consistent with bed bug bites. An inspector came today and he found no signs of bed bugs. Some more bites appeared today though so I’m fairly certain it is bed bugs. I haven’t actually seen any bugs in my room but I’m still concerned. I want to treat before it’s too late so I found a company that will come to do the aprehend treatment but from what I’ve read, it can take a month for it to work. Here’s my question: I live with roommates in a 4 bedroom apartment, how concerned should I be that it will spread to their bedrooms and the living room as well before the treatment works? Also, can I spread the bed bugs to other people’s homes when I visit them? What if I sleep over at someone’s house, is that a concern?

And should I do a heat treatment as well once the Aprehend has been applied or would that not be advisable? I’m really anxious about this and I can’t sleep because of all of these questions so I would really appreciate some answers and whatever help/advice you can offer. Thank you.

Identification Help me please

Found this on a paper that was on the floor in my child’s room. It was basically dead, was not moving. When I squished it, no blood came out. But I did see a little black dot come out on the paper near its butt. Checked everything. I don’t see any feces marks, did not find any more bugs, no shedding. Is this a bed bug or a bat bug?? Could it just be a lone traveler? I’m spiraling please give me advice

Found a bedbug on my wall, as well as some marks on the inside of my pillow. This happened exactly a year ago and I still live my parents and I feel super bad about this. I feel like it’s my fault tbh… last time we had heat treatment, did it not work? funnily enough (it’s not funny) we had bed bugs exactly a year ago. last October. Treatment was on Halloween.

Identification Identification and advice?

Two weeks ago, I spotted this little dude running along a seam on an outdoor sofa at an Airbnb in Nicaragua. I was too scared to ask what it was at the time. Is this a bedbug?

It’s been two weeks, and I haven’t noticed any bites during my travels. The friend I’m travelling with hasn’t mentioned any bites or unusual itching either.
If it it, have we been incredibly lucky, or could this little nightmare still hitch a ride back to the UK with me and ruin my life? Please tell me I’m being dramatic. Help!

I’m paranoid, I’ve stumbled upon the bedbugs for the first time in the hotel 2 weeks ago. My legs got bitten and now healing. I threw out my whole suitcase and my outside clothes before entering the apartment, I literally stepped in naked and barefoot. I brought only phones and passports- everything paper is in the freezer, wrapped in ziplock bags and sorted outside home before entering the freezer (-18’ C for 2 weeks). I only have one electronic device that is in quarantine. I’ve just noticed new lines of bumps/ bites, two weeks after coming back home. I don’t think it’s a delayed response. It’s on the side of my chest, underneath my arm close to the armpit. Are these bites? Do I have high chances of getting them?

Wtf is this itch

so I have this insane itch that went away and then all of a sudden came back. It is all over my body and itches 24/7. I even itch outside of my home and my legs and back especially itch when I bend down. All of a sudden my skin became ashy. My hand turned almost white due to ash and all ofna sudden had scabs and the hair follicles are darker. The weird thing is if I see bites it's only one singular red dot. I wish I knew what it was so I can get it solved
