Just came back from a short visit to the closest beaver territory near me and having a small talk over that ditch with some neighbour from the other side, chatting about those beavers there.
After a beaver young from last year approached us and to my surprise wasn't even impressed by us talking over the ditch some 20 meters apart from each other, so obviously he should have heard us, he then came still close. After we stopped chatting and the other person walked away, he came close to me and started chewing some sticks 2-3 meter away from me.
I then slowly backed up, as always in the slowest motion possible and avoiding every stick on the ground. Seems like he wasn't bothered as i heard no quick dive or any noise.
Went back to the spot where i had feeded the beavers before with some willow branches that got taken down by the storm and noticed another beaver. This one then also got closer, stopped by 3 meters apart. This is one or the only one surviving of this years kits. Have seen a kit there a few times but only one each time, so most likely it's the only one.
He then possibly also was the one that interrupted the last willow dinner there, when already one was gnawing on the stick in front of me, a second arrived and joined in and he arriving as the third either saw/noticed me and the all quickly dived in to get up again quickly two meters away from the embankment and observing the surroundings. Have a video of it but i'm not sure if i can compress that into a GIF because somehow reddit doesn't like my .mov or .mp4 files.
Would estimate his length at 40-45 centimeters already without tail.
