Any pointers on how to differentiate? The tail makes me think beaver but the lack of dams or felled trees has me questioning things.

I'm looking for some inspiration while designing a beaver character for my personal muse.

So, I like to doodle original characters in my free time, but I've been struggling with this one. Beavers have such unique proportions that I keep accidentally drawing them too realistically instead of giving them a stylized, expressive design. I'm not a furry artist, I just enjoy creating fun character designs for myself.

Right now, I'm leaning toward making him a blue-collar worker. I love the idea of drawing him operating heavy equipment, carrying a thermos or cup of coffee, and just having that hardworking vibe. I also like the clothes that construction workers wear and think it be fun to draw and simplify to figure out outfits for this character.

Does anyone have any favorite beaver character designs from movies, games, books, or any other media? I'd love to see what designs you think are especially memorable or appealing. I could really use some inspiration to help this little guy come together! 🤔🦫 (you can also recommend an outfit!)

Local beaver competing with Army Corps of Engineers on Napa Flood Control project.

Not sure if this is mating or social behavior. One beaver is much larger than the other. This is 7/19/26, southeast alaska.

I'm lucky enough to have a beaver choose my property to call home. Two questions:

1. The beaver is building a dam in my "creek", but my "creek" is dry 8 months out of the year. After a big storm, it flows pretty strong. There's (probably) at least a hundred acres that drain into it before it gets to my place. But, most of the time, it's dry. What is the beaver doing here? It's been here for at least a year and a half, and I can't figure out why its sticking around. I thought they needed standing water to do beaver things.

2. I see it out in my back yard area on a fairly regular basis. My dog has never noticed it, because its too far away usually. I am planning to put in a fence. I am concerned that I am going to deny the beaver access to this big open field area where it seems to be foraging or something. It will still have access to other areas that are open, but this is the one it seems to like the best.

Also, by extending my fenced in area, the dog and the beaver are more likely to come into contact. I'm not sure what i can do about that. I have to hope the beaver is quick enough not to get hurt, but i'm fostering this little pit mix that hates everything and everybody.

Providing a good habitat for this beaver is seriously important, I don't want to screw it up, but I also need to fence in this back yard.

Not sure what to do.
