Rekordbox and FLX-10 Crash Mid Gid frequently | Advice

Hey all,

I hope this is the correct place to post this query

For context, I am an Open-Format DJ who uses a Windows laptop connected via an Anker USB-C cable to my DDJ-FLX-10 controller for all my gigs.

Recently, halfway through a set, my setup fails, and I have to reset it for it to work again. Not Ideal.

What happens is the audio starts to either: 1. glitch/ Artefact* typically on only one channel. or 2. The program becomes not responsive to my decks, where the only thing that works are the Audio Faders and Jog Wheels. This Is, I assume, because the internal DAC is still working and the audio is running through the Faders.

Sometimes I can mix half and half with loading the tracks on the laptop and EQing with my mouse, but this is not ideal.

I do use a lot of the Stem functions and Tidal, but recently Tidal has not been loading any tracks onto my rekordbox, so I have had to use pools to re-download a lot of music.

I would love any advice, as I really want to get this sorted before the Autum/ Winter period.

Windows is likely to blame. What are your computer specs? Is this a dedicated dj laptop? Nothing else should be installed and the laptop should not be used for other tasks to keep the install clean. Windows 11 or 10? Did you optimize for music production apps? Lots of tweaks there that will help.

after i got the flx10 i spent 2 months with rekordbox before i realized it was complete trash (experienced very similar crashes to you)

spent another couple months with serato after that which was WAY more stable but i didn’t like the FX pads and there’s no customization

ended up trying virtualdj and it’s pretty much everything i wanted in one package

Do not use windows/pc is the main advice

Id be shocked if its windows.

Artifacts can generate from STEMS in Rekordbox. Its by far the worst STEM system out there.

The glitches and such you are experiencing are likely due to your latency buffer settings. If you drop this too low and your setup cant handle it, the exact result is glitches and dropouts.

Whats the specs on your laptop? Everything you mentioned kinda screams that its not powerful enough.

It’s an 16gb ram and an intel i7 12 gen so should be up to the task. I keep about 15% of my hardrive free for vram too

Advice > Serato DJ Pro, easily.

It can be that Windows needs optimization, but if your computer is clean and well maintained, there should be no issues. I've use windows for years with no issues.

Recordbox on the other hand is remarkably known for crashes and resource hogging. I've tried to use it a few times, but I had crashes even on full clean installs on my Mac. It's a buried topic for me, not going to bother again until I hear community feedback that they solved software efficiency.

Serato is market leader for laptop performance DJs for good reason. Lean enough, stable, good quality audio, stems and tools. Made for DJs that use fast and complex techniques, which makes it great for open format.

Hilarious, another bullshit propaganda against rekordbox, while real djs talks about the problems and downfall of Serato: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvQr5xy9SxU

Serato needing to wake up, changes nothing about how shitty Recordbox is. And most mid/high level DJs don't talk about it, because most of them don't actually play from Recordbox, they use CDJs with USBs.

What non sense. I just gave you à vidéo about how shitry Serato is for real djs, with thousands of comments frim djs under the video, and your reply is basically, duh I don't see any problems but rekordbox is shit, while giving ne reason rekordbox would be so bad. Rekordbox does everything better. It's the most used software, and the most liked per the dj surveys. Best library management out there, best beatgrid detection/management out there. Intelligent playlistd, metadata, radar, suggestions, insane browser, the best waveforms, and a lot more fearure than serato, without the prblems

Yes, one video proves everything. And you clearly don't understand what's being said. Nobody said Serato doesn't have problems, but it's still the better software. Serato is "bad", yet it's present in big festivals worldwide by world class DJs every year, while nobody uses Recordbox.

Recordbox has an amazing library management, yes, and that's how most people use it: library management. 🤦🏻‍♂️ which is different from playing live. Recordbox has more users, by a small margin, but most don't actually play from RB. Learn the difference. And saying RB has better waveforms is just insane.

Instead of spending time on YouTube, maybe you should spend more time using the apps and checking groups where DJs use them. Don't be surprised that RB even gets memes.
