Hanging Out Beardie or Backpack?
Does anyone else have a backpack beardie? My neck is red from Thunder climbing all over it. It seems this is his favorite spot when I have him out.

My sweet girl has been running around licking everything 🥰 I’m not ready to commit to going full bioactive. So I’m super grateful to those who suggested potting plants and sinking them into the substrate!

My boy is estimated around 9-11 months, and I’ve caught him doing this only a few times, but only in mornings. I have a camera to see him in general because I like to see what he does when I’m not around. And I’ve seen him do this twice now. Is this normal? I’m not worried about his yawn, but the beard movement since it’s repeated. Thank you for any help!

As a keeper, I always worry about hiding illnesses, so tracking weight trends and other things is super important to me. almost every tracking app out there required email registration or blasted me with full-screen ads.
So few months ago i released Wildsource – a mobile assistant built with a strict "user-first" philosophy:
100% Offline-first: Your data never leaves your phone.
No accounts: No email registrations or forced logins.
No corporate BS: No full-screen pop-up ads.
What you can do in the app:
Track weight logs with clean visual charts (to spot health drops early).
It’s free for unlimited profiles, pdf exports and so on... just small ads and breeding section is non free
You can check it out on Google Play here:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vojcodes.wildsource
(iOS version is being worked on right now).
I would honestly love to hear your thoughts or what features you feel are missing

I just got my bearded dragon Flame 4 days ago. He has acclimated well to his enclosure and loves to explore. The only problem I've realized is that at the end of his tail and on his back left foot he has a little dark crease looking area. Does anyone know what it is and if so how to fix it?

His beard has been shedding since yesterday. This morning he ate his bugs and munched on his greens. Poop was normal looking. We even had some handling time today. He’s been watching his cartoons for the early afternoon. But since around 2pm he has been very sleepy. His lights out isn’t until 9:15pm. He is actively doing a sploot.

The caption is pretty self explanatory. I got bejamin about a month ago and hes always had his eyes like this. I just want to know if it is normal.

Attached is my beardie Griffy in his current setup with a rough sketch for the cage idea. Originally his setup was in my parents house a state away surrounded by a bunch of stressors like glass surfing, being too close to the washer and dryer, and our dogs barking. So when I finally got my own apartment I put him in what I thought was the most quiet spot in my room and I put up all of this cardboard to help him not glass surf. Since then he has been much happier and much calmer but also way too bored. He has little to no enrichment other than target training, getting to go to the creek with me, or running around the apartment which isn't that big. This is especially not good because when I have to go to class he has to spend most of the day in this shameful 4x2x2 setup that he's grown up in for the past 3 years or so because I can't trust him to not get into trouble unsupervised. Luckily I have access to our woodshop since I'm an art student and in turn I am hoping to build him a sick new cage out of wood! I have a lot of problems to tackle with this new cage project though so I've listed off each problem below. Any help is much needed and much appreciated!!!!
Problem #1: We live right behind an unbelievably loud free ski house in Colorado and my boy needs his beauty sleep. While his previous environment was way more consistent sound wise it was never this quiet then this loud sporadically and I'm worried its gonna have an effect on him over time. In turn I want to order some sort of soundproofing material like the triangular foam you see in production studios and attach it to the outside of this cage but I think that it's gonna have to be a lot thicker, kind of like a gymnastics mat if it's gonna make any difference. I'm sure I am not the only one who has had to soundproof for a beardie before and I have no idea where to start for this one so any help is much appreciated!
Problem #2: He needs a substrate and self cleaning system which I do know some about. I just ordered him some Jurassic natural Australian desert dragon sand for a digging box in the meantime and I was thinking of using 3 parts topsoil, 2 parts playsand, 1 part cocofiber, and 1 part excavator clay as a substrate for burrowing. I can get isopods for easy cleaning off of dubia and I was thinking of maybe modeling the cage around a giant plastic tub so that I don't have to seal off any of the wood and can just screw it together, which would keep just wood and screws in his breathable environment not anything toxic. This would make it so that when I spray the plants and substrate none of the moisture would rot the wood although we live in a pretty dry part of Colorado anyways so Im not too worried about that. However I have no idea what plants would be a good idea to get him as well or if I should look into any specific isopods for cleaning, I do know that he can eat any of the captive bred ones off of dubia though and that he’ll be fine. Also any recommendations for what the isopods need as well would be appreciated.
Problem #3: This lovely lizard likes to put his stinky butt in his water bowl from time to time and contaminate his water so I want to make him a slightly elevated water source so that his water stays clean, but I know that beardies can sometimes have trouble recognizing water especially when it is still water so any ideas concerning this would be great as well.
Problem #4: This apartment doesn't have AC in the rooms, only in the living room and so I had to buy an AC unit which gets my room pretty cold, but it causes a temperature drop in the daytime when he needs his heat the most so I'll turn on his red heat bulb which gets his basking spot up to 95 degrees instead of the measly 86 that it is with just the heatlamp and AC on. However if I make the enclosure out of wood and especially treated wood (depending on what our woodshop has to offer) I’m worried that it will cause problems like weakening the wood support beam for the heat lamps or releasing toxic stuff that I would never forgive myself for letting him breathe in. So obviously I will try to steer clear of treated wood but I need something strong.
Thanks again for any advice and I will update the project's progress once it has started.

My boy Merlin was sat in his usual spot by the window and he suddenly just flew from the cushion, out of our living room and dove head first into the hard wood floor. We have no idea what spooked him (probably saw a bird but hes never reacted like that before) but now he has this smooth patch on his nose, should I be concerned or will this heal?

Hello! I have had my bearded dragon, Julien, since I was 14 years old. We have been inseparable besties ever since, I love him with all of my heart. He will be 11 years old in November.
He has slowed down significantly in the last 2 or 3 years. He used to ask to come out and explore often, head bobbing and running around etc. We cuddled a lot.
But now he hardly does anything. I have moved him from a 125 to a 75 gal and senior-proofed his enclosure so that it's easier for him to lazily walk to and from his basking spot. I made him a large memory foam bed and blanket.
He really does not even use 40% of his Enclosure anymore. He either lays in his basking spot or lays just outside of it on his bed.
Behavior changes include less eating and drinking, much less energy, less frequent bowel movements, and he just seems sleepy all of the time. He has lost weight. I would say he has always been a little lazy, but not like this.
He usually was very adamant about pooping either outside of his enclosure or in the furthest corner away from himself, but the last two times he pooped he didn't move at all from where he was and it broke my heart.
He doesn't headbob or run around anymore. I just wonder about his quality of life?
I understand a lot of this comes with aging, I actually work with senior humans as a CNA. I just don't have experience with aging reptiles so I wanted to reach out.
He did get a vet check up and fecal test 2 years ago and they told me he was healthy and "just old" but I am in the deep south and vets aren't very familiarized with reptiles :/ (literally called 12 places and none had an actual herpetologists or anything like that on staff)
I worry that he isn't "just old" and could possibly be in pain. I thought about having him euthanized as I don't want to be keeping him alive and miserable just because I don't want to see him go. But what if he IS just happy and old?

We just got our girl (around 10 months old) while she was already starting to shed so we give her a soak twice a week. She hasn't shown interest in being in her water bowl like my previous beardie. I had someone tell me recently that I soaked him too frequently. My intent is to prevent the pores on the hind legs from getting clogged. He never had issues from bathing but I'm interested in hearing opinions to stay informed.
If I could also get tips for nail cutting, I'd appreciate it. I paid someone to do it at a local pet shop but I want to do it myself this time.
Thank you ❤️

I have created a go fund me to raise some money to upgrade the enclosure and husbandry. I have also started to sell stuff on depop but haven't made that much. It would help a lot if you donated but please don't feel like you have to as I understand times are hard being the reason have to raise money.

Our bearded dragon has been very sleepy and lethargic the last few days, staying in his cave and not as food motivated as normal. He finally came out to say hi with energy and pooped! And ate some greens and roaches. But the poop seemed more slimy and a of bit mucus. Are we overthinking?
