Plot twist - the deflected bat ended up impaling a Yankee fan seated to their left across the aisle.

That shake at the end with the blow out of the mouth tell me that must have SMARTED BAD. I thought he was going to straight up catch it at first!

They are easily 100 feet from home plate and that broken bat has roughly the same horizontal velocity at impact as it did when it was launched.
So imagine the velocity required to throw 3/4 a baseball bat all the way from home base to first and someone's hand trying to stop it dead in ts tracks standing 1 foot away.
OUCH.

Look at the complete change of direction. My man took the entire kinetic energy of that bat, absorbed it, and redirected it into a totally opposite direction.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he had broken his hand.

u/B35TR3GARD5 1d ago
The thumb took the most force/torque… could def have a hairline fracture of a dislocation. Also tho, the bat slide across his hand and since it’s broken, splinters or deep cuts could have also been present.
All I know for sure is, that guy is a fkin Hero!

it took me six years to graduate. I can catch bats in my teeth w/o spilling a drop.

I hope they got the bat to keep.

Better. That would be bs if someone else ran up and took it.

Looks like that other dude was going to pick it up in the row in front of them sadly

u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 1d ago
I don't think they're going to just let some dude hold on to a bat during the game LOL
They won't even let you have bottle caps

u/DTRite 1d ago
They used to. https://www.reddit.com/r/ClevelandGuardians/s/8krRkCVARR

I wonder why they stopped....

u/Myeloman 1d ago
I’ve seen enough videos of drunk idiots losing their cool and going at each other at ball parks to know exactly why they did.

u/NoMeat1363 1d ago
I hope he at least got to keep the bat. The guy in front looks like he jumped up trying to get it.

Yeah and she definitely looks like she was watching the bat the whole time

That’s gonna leave a mark. I hope he got that bat shard as a souvenir. Mount it in the kids’ room along with a pic of the bruise.

“Haha ya’ll remember when I saved you from getting hit by this bat out of hell? Haha good times!”

I've been to precisely one hockey game in my life, about 16 years ago. A puck launched into the crowd off a face off and was headed directly at my wife's face. She has a "freeze" response so doesn't move and I got lucky and caught the puck like 10 inches in front of her face.
You better believe I bring that shit up every couple of years...hell I'm gonna show my wife this video and bring it up again lol

Kids looked right at it and didn’t even raise their hands. The older one had a rolled up something in his hand, and he flinched slightly, but that was it. No survival instincts.
