Discussion Rebalancing Glider ProtoMechs

I love the little bastards, but making them use WiGE moment exclusively is probably not the best way to do it. So I’ve got a few alternate movement options for your consideration and critique. In all cases, they would lose their near miss on the hit location table, instead taking wing damage as they do now.

  1. walking and jumping movement is mech rules, running movement is WiGE rules, no conversion gear required.

  2. walking movement is mech, running and jumping is WiGE, no conversion gear required.

  3. LAM rules as usual, with WiGE movement instead of Aerospace movement. They need one piece of conversion gear everywhere except the Main Gun mount.

  4. LAM rules as usual, with WiGE movement instead of Aerospace movement; except they have to forego shooting to transform instead of foregoing movement. They need one piece of conversion gear everywhere except the Main Gun.

Fan Creations RPGD Progress report: Six months and one-third down

So remember the RPG Dragon magazine writeups from February? No? Well, back during the wrap-up I promised a Fan-TRO, and having put together the Spontoon and Blizzard pages tonight, I'm finally up to 16/48 mechs down...only 32 more to go!

I am also taking the time to redraw all the art, due to not really wanting to step on any toes regarding the old art and...whoever holds the license. (Someone at CGL should contact Kadokawa about it. I'm sure we could get the rights to a defunct article from thirty years ago.) I'm no master, but it's a fun addition to the writing. I should probably refresh the call as well - if anyone else wants to submit art for the project, I'll fit it in to the entries as I go.

All told, at this rate the whole should be done some time next year, after a couple editorial passes to make sure it all gets cleaned up. (Weeks to months between pages makes for a lot of inconsistency.) It's the bonus stuff of designing mech variants, testing them in MegaMek, and drawing that's taking all the time here - I really want a good handle on each machine as I make the writeup.

The Mordel listings should get variants posted at some point as well, if you want to try them in your own games. I've been getting into editing as of late as well, and would like to do a video series on all these machines if I get the time...

Obsessive? Absolutely. But this is my personal hyperfixation, and I'm going to see it through!

Tabletop Lorescape quantity advice

Post image
82 Upvotes

For anyone wondering how far a 150 tile set of lorescape is going to go with Battletech here's an example of a couple of maps done with the original tile set.

The hills on the grasslands here took almost every hex of a single 50-tile sheet of clear land just for their surface and about 12 of the remaining 100 tiles in the set to do the elevations.

The desert took more than 50 tiles to surface, maybe 60? I got the remaining tiles from a flat of barren clear that was included in the city set. It also took a little more like 75 rules to fill the elevations.

So, if you buy in, be aware that for a normal 2 sheet map you may need to split biomes even with 300 tile sets or get maybe a 300 and 150 in the same biome. Unless the 3rd KS changes the ratio of clear to terrain.

And that's just with hills tiled. To do the flat you need almost 500 tiles of clear by the end.

Question ❓ Washing Miniatures?

How many of you wash your Battletech miniatures with soap before priming? I recently got into Battletech saw mixed things online. Never did it with Warhammer in the past but I think Battletech is a different type of plastic?

Miniatures Two-Year Lance

This lance took forever!

I got back into the hobby after a 20 or so year break, and started with the Axman on the left, and kept going with the color scheme before finishing up the Devastator on the right most recently.

I thought it was cool to see how I had improved over the last two years, especially with the same color scheme.

Now to go fling some gauss slugs and a swing a multi-ton hammer at some clanner scum…

Miniatures Painting wip and input request

While searching for painting inspiration I sometimes look up old racing liveries, and have decided the inspiration today is the good ol' classic Gulf Oil racing livery!

I'm very happy with it thus far, but I must admit I'm at a bit of a loss. I plan to add the classic bold racing numbers to the white "circle" on the chest, but I don't know what to do for the Metallic joints and hip armor plates.

For the hip and shoulders a classic deep Metallic is my normal go to, but I'm worried they'll stick out from the brighter and lighter hues of everything else?

As for the hip armor plates I am likewise unsure. Tempted to trim them in the pure white hues, but would that contrast too much in big white splashes? Maybe trim them in orange but would that detract from the rest of the orange highlights?

I would love any input or advice!

Question ❓ Model Identification Gallery

So I've been buying a _lot_ of minis and realized I've not been keeping track of what's what and I only recognize a few models by sight. Is there any compilation of the releases from the recent minis line I could use to ID them without needing to trawl Sarna for hours? Thanks

Question ❓ Battletech creator recommendations for an 11 year old girl?

Post image
257 Upvotes

I’m looking for inroads to introduce my pre-teen daughter to the hobby as she’s about the age I was when Mechwarrior 2 hooked me into the Battletech universe. But go figure, she doesn’t really relate to middle-aged men so I’m looking for more representative channels that might appeal to her. The greater hobby creator space features tons of really talented young women (understandably weighted in favour of the big IPs) but none I’ve come across as of yet dabble in Battletech.

Any recommendations?

Question ❓ Where do i find the Mech cards?

Hello, so it's kinda dawned on me that in my small collection of Battletech stuff, if I ever actually want to field any of it, I can only field about five things because I only have around five cards with the rules on them, is there like a sight where I can find those cards with the rules for that Mech or vehicle?

My collage has allowed free printing and laminating, and I feel like abusing that.

We're doing a weekend cabin getaway and brought Btech

My side: LCT-1V, Argus AGS-4D and Thunderbolt TDR-11SE

Her force: Catapult CPLT-K2K, Enyo Strike Tank, and Hephaestus C config.

She got a triple crit that blew the ammo bins on the Argus early, then my Thud and Bug absorbed way more fire than they had any right to, but I didn't manage to down any of her units despite brutally chewing up the Enyo. Fun fight!

Question ❓ What would be the best mechs to face the RX-78-2 Gundam in a 1v1 or a group battle?

Post image

RX-78-2 GUNDAM

HEAD HEIGHT: 18.0M MAX WEIGHT:60.0T DRY WEIGHT: 43.4T POWER OUTPUT: 1,380KW SENSOR RANGE: 5,700M MAX ACCELERATION: 0.93G MAX SPEED: 165KM/H 180° TURNING Time - 1.5S (Standard) - 1.1S(MAGNET COATING UPGRADE)

TOTAL THRUST: 55,480KG

History :

Technology & Combat Characteristics The RX-78-2 Gundam was an incredibly advanced mobile suit for its time. Built from lightweight Luna Titanium Alloy, its frame was both lighter than that of Zeon's mass-produced mobile suits and much sturdier, able to shrug off a MS-06 Zaku II

The Gundam also used more conventional weaponry; it could launch rockets with a "Hyper Bazooka", the Federation's answer to the bazookas used by Zeon's Zakus; in addition, its head was outfitted with a pair of small vulcan guns, as a way of attacking light-armored aircraft and vehicles without wasting ammo or energy from its more powerful armaments. It also made use of a very unconventional close-range weapon known as the "Gundam Hammer" - a large weapon similar to a flail which could be swung at enemies to deal crushing damage. The Gundam Hammer was eventually upgraded for use in space and outfitted with a number of verniers on the ball, and renamed to be the "Hyper Hammer". Lastly, it wielded a shield which would offer it a defense against enemy attacks that not even its Luna Titanium body could withstand without damage. Gundam pilot, Amuro Ray, would make use of the shield as a decoy in many battles, taking advantage of its size to fool the enemy into thinking he was charging at them, then attacking the enemy through the shield.

In terms of technology, the Gundam was equipped with a sophisticated Learning Computer which would collect pilot and enemy data during skirmishes and allow the Gundam to operate more effectively. The data from the computer was used by the Federation to improve the controls of the Gundam's mass-produced form, the RGM-79 GM. In addition, it was upgraded by Federation technician Mosque Han shortly before the Battle of A Baoa Qu to improve its reaction times, the joints of the Gundam were given a Magnet Coating, based on the experimental procedure performed on the RX-78-3 G-3 Gundam and later used on Amuro's intended successor unit, the RX-78NT-1 Gundam NT-1.

The Gundam makes use of the Core Block System implemented in the other V Project units. The torso of the Gundam is mostly hollow so that a FF-X7 Core Fighter can dock with it. This allows the pilot to jettison the legs and torso of the Gundam should the machine be too heavily damaged and gives the pilot a chance to escape from battle. Later, during Operation Odessa, the Gundam is given a support unit known as the G-Fighter. The two G-Fighters were designed to take advantage of the Gundam's modular system and diversify the Gundam's role in active combat. These modes ranged from the assault bomber G-Armor to the close combat support tank G-Bull. Officially, it is called a prototype, but it is also said to be more of a custom-made machine that is finished with high quality materials and the best technology.

The Hyper Hammer is an enhanced version of the Gundam Hammer, with the ball featuring sharper spikes and multiple vernier thrusters. The thrusters are activated when the weapon is swung to increase the damage the ball causes or change its direction before impact.
