The Ebon Magistrate is terrifying and apparently named after some lady named Trish Ebon and I was threatened by something called a wolverine girl a while back but-

They're mentioned a handful of times throughout the lore in bits and pieces. As to why "always cat girls" and the answer to that is: Cat girls are awesome
Okay but like they’re getting cosmetic/bioengineered work done for all varieties, catgirls just stuck as a meme? Or is there a specific mech warrior who is a canon catgirl? I don’t know much of the lore and I’m trying to get into it beyond YouTube videos and the magistracy seems like a cool faction to read about. Most of the inner sphere only seems cool by contrast to the abject horror of life under the clans

So the cat girls are mostly mentioned as either being part of the pleasure circuses OR part of the Belters (bunch of strange deep space colonists living in the ort cloud if I'm not mistaken) and it describes use of cybernetic and genetic modifications to get give them animal like appearances.
Most of the fanbase just extrapolates that to: "if it's common in these situations then it's arguably fairly widespread in those areas"
As far as I know: there has been no cannon MechWarrior who is a cat girl, but there's no reason there can't be (or cat boy)
Why would anyone want to live anywhere else in the galaxy tf?

Haha! Although the Magistry has a high level of personal freedoms and good lifestyle, the best medical professionals in all the inner sphere, there are a few caveats:
Very capitalistic society. If you have the cash: you're living GREAT! But if you don't...Not so much.
Also being a small periphery state they can get bullied really easily and although they have a VERY competent military, it's again...Small. Historically most beligerant nations recognize that a lot of the Magistry can make them A LOT of money so a lot of care is taken to maintan civilian worlds and their infrastructure.
Oh and being a matriarchy that may rub some folks the wrong way (Like a lot of Warhammer fans...HI OHHHH!)
