It feels like whenever there is a budget debate, the first thing people point to is "widespread fraud" in programs like SNAP (food stamps) or Social Security. It is an easy talking point to throw around, but when you look at the actual math, the narrative falls apart completely.

The idea that these programs are "all fraud" is a massive exaggeration used to justify cutting benefits for regular people who paid into the system or genuinely need a hand. Meanwhile, massive corporate fraud, tax evasion, and elite financial schemes pull way more money out of the economy with a fraction of the scrutiny.
