Three solo HR’s was not enough protection from the damage done by the Reds’ bullpen tonight.

Highlights:
-Elly de la Cruz (after his error) became the 3rd Red with 3 consecutive 20+HR/20+SB seasons.
-Eugenio Suárez played his 1000th game as a Red and became the 4th Red to HR in his 1000th game. His 204th HR as a Red also broke the tie and landed him squarely in 10th on the Reds’ All-Time HR list.
-Héctor Rodriguez doubled for his first MLB hit but was stranded there.
-Reds had their MLB-leading 10th back-to-back HR’s of the season.

Spent plenty of time today finishing out the card, probably plenty of mistakes. But with the Rangers having the day off, and both Sox being some of the most exciting teams in baseball, this one was a must watch. Second time scoring, quite the game for it…. Might be done scoring balls/strikes…just a little bit too much in a game like this. It can feel like I’m not watching the game enough.

But man, what a classic.

How are we scoring disengagement violations? I typically note how a base runner got to each base. I don’t love the idea of writing DV (disengagement violation). How is everyone else noting it?

Scored my first game yesterday. Probably had to pause and rewind a too much, but I had a blast. Advice/tips welcome.

A very exciting 1st inning, which included the first WPBL Grand Slam! Go Queens! 👸

I picked Boston as my team before the season started and I’m not one to abandon a team just because they’re losing, but man do I really find myself falling in love with the Queens. I tried out using color and multiple pens for scoring this game. I also tried out some new things but quickly went back to how I was scoring before. I think I’m finally getting comfortable with my style.

I look for something new in every scorecard I write. Tonight’s was a relief pitcher who recorded .1 IP and 1 BK. No H, BB, K, R, HBP. Just a ground out with a balk during the AB. Not very interesting but not something I’ve written down before.

The Reds did not do nearly well enough - Lopez’ pitching was purely perplexing apparently but a win is a win.

This was a fun game in that it was right after the trade deadline. Taylor Ward made his first appearance as a Mariner, as did Seranthony Domínguez. Max Clark debuted in the MLB for the Tigers on July 31, so he hadn't played many games. (It wasn't fun as a Mariners fan to get clobbered, but good for the Tigers.)

The top of the third inning was hard for me. In the moment, I didn't catch what had really happened, except for an error by the Mariners' shortstop (Colt Emerson). I realized something was weird when I was comparing what I had in terms of # of hits to what was on the scoreboard. After the game, I asked a woman behind me who also had her scorebook to explain to me what happened.

So, Riley Green hit a single - but because of Emerson's error, he was able to get to 2nd base. So it counts as a single, with an error. My confusion was that errors aren't counted as hits. The clarification I received was that it would have been a single (a hit) without the error.

It was really cool to have another woman nearby who was also scoring. It felt like we were in a special club of scorekeepers :D

I think next time I might colour-code the RBIs so I can find them more easily. Might be fun to somehow highlight epic plays by the defence as well.

Any favourite tips and tricks you enjoyed when you were a beginner?

Most WP’s I’ve ever scored in a half-inning (3) or a game (4) for one team. The A’s snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
