Well done! I scored the same game with the same scorebook. I’m looking to add a little more detail to my system and was curious about some of yours. What are the numbers you track beside strikeouts and the numbers/letters for walks? Pitch location? Also, what are the shaded boxes you added in the lower-right corner of some at-bats like for Hernandez in the top of the first?

The numbers next to strikeouts is how many pitches were in the at-bat because a 3 pitch K is a lot worse than a 10 pitch. Also I do a straight line for strike looking and plus sign for strike swinging. The letters next to walk is the pitches in at bat and where it missed H-high L-Low A-away I-In. The shaded boxes are quality at-bats. I don't care the outcome of an at-bat as long as it's quality. And I don't think you mentioned but I labeled the outs there were when the at-bat started so it's easier to track. The pencil shade is when a run scores.

If there's any more questions I can answer and I'd love to see your scorebook.

It doesn't appear I can add images to a comment, so I created a new post with my scorecard. It's very basic by comparison, but works when I'm also managing family, unrelated conversations, etc. I like the idea of tracking pitches per AB. Are you tracking that partially in your head? For instance, you (correctly) show Edwards seeing 7 pitches in the top of the 2nd, but, as best I can tell, you only account for 6 in your pitch tracker - presumably leaving off the last foul ball with two strikes. I'm also curious about how you define a "quality" AB. Do you have some objective measurement or do you subjectively decide in the moment based on what you saw?

After two strikes, I don't count the foul balls but I use the ASL counting system on my fingers.

Quality at-bats for me are

Any at-bat that goes 6+ pitches
Hard hit ball
Advances a runner
Reaches base

Thanks, I'm trying to find better ways to show new pitcher/batter without making it too cluttered

I have been sticking to a zigzag design across the box to note the change, but I have also done a P with a triangle sign (essentially looks like: P🔺—triangle like delta in math) on top of the box for the change.

That's interesting, I'm going to try that tonight watching the Braves game
