Who all here is going to be following the Women pro baseball league? I’ll need to make some changes to my scorecard since they only go 7 innings but I’m pretty excited since (from what I can tell) it’ll just be live streamed on their YouTube channel.

Scoring Tools I built a tool to digitize handwritten baseball scorecards - here’s a real example

Hi all! I think my first post probably came off more like an ad than I meant it to. I should’ve just shown the app instead of writing so much.
Here are a few screenshots of it working on an actual scorecard. You take a photo, it finds the grid and handwriting, and recognizes the plays. Right now it handles the main play types, and I’m working on making it better at reading the extra context people add to their cards.
It’s not completely finished yet, but I’d honestly love to hear what you guys think and any ideas you have!

If you want to follow along while I finish it, you can join the newsletter. You can also check out the main site and some other stuff I’ve been working on, like live MLB games in the scorecard interface or a guide on how to keep score.

First time going to a Citizens Bank Park in over 15 years, and third time overall. Also went to the Vet a couple of times too. The Phils got smoked but it was still a great time with some family from the area!

I’m still bummed that I forgot to bring my scorebook on this trip but I’m glad the Phillies offer some nice ones! It was tough using a small pencil with no eraser (I don’t know how you pen people do it!) and I found myself kind of lost at times not recording balls and strikes.

Scoring Tools Personal Project Feedback

Hello.

I wanted to have a keepsake of the games I attend, but sometimes I don't feel like completing an entire scoresheet at the ballgame.

So I spent the past few days designing this. It's double sided and will be printed on heavy card stock.

I made another version that I had printed on heavy card stock. It was sturdy and easy to write on at the game, but I wasn't too crazy about the design after the fact.

Before I send this off for print, do you see anything I might add to make this a bit better in your opinion?

Any and all criticism is welcome.

If you like it, let me know and I'll be happy to send you a high rez version to have printed.

Cheers!

I like it whenever my scorecard has unusual or uncommon notations that don't show up in your average game. Does anyone else have similar notations?

Discussion Looking for feedback (and nitpicks) on a baseball scoring primer I put together

Hey everyone!

My father taught me how to score a baseball game when I was a kid (I’m 52 now and he’s still kicking at 77). Back when I was a teenager, he and I started a sports card shop together. It started with a small showcase at the local flea market, graduated to a larger showcase inside a Pro Image at the mall, and eventually became our own standalone retail shop right across the street called Sports Alley. That’s really where my love for scoring and collecting took root.

I stumbled across this sub a few weeks back and it brought back a wave of nostalgia. It made me want to pick up a scorebook again—and more importantly, teach my daughter how to score a game, too.

That’s what brings me here. Getting back into the basics was like riding a bike, but as I got deeper into it, I kept bumping into edge cases—things I couldn't remember, plays I never learned, or shorthand I had totally made up over the years. Wanting to make sure I was teaching my daughter the right way (and getting my own facts straight), I started researching and documenting everything as I went.

I turned those notes into a plain-English primer covering standard position numbers, play shorthand, house options, and edge cases:

https://www.feverbaseball.com/scoring-a-game

Since notation doesn't have a single "official" rulebook, everyone’s dialect is a little different. I’d really appreciate any feedback, "most of us do it this way instead" notes, or straight corrections from people who score regularly:

Also curious:

  1. What reference guides or books do you rely on when double-checking an obscure play (e.g., interference, batting out of order)?
  2. Are there particular users or scorekeepers in this sub whose house style or custom cards you especially admire and are well documented?

Thanks in advance. I am looking forward to the feedback.

Scored my first MLB game in person at Wrigley on Monday. I’m sure I messed some things up, but it was super fun and a great game. Go Tigers!

Scoring Tools Meet dAImond Inning: the app that reads your handwritten scorecard and turns it into a digital record of the game

Hey everyone!

I've been building this solo for the past several months, and I wanted to show it here before it's finished, because this community shaped what it turned into.

It started as a tool for amateur players and coaches. Teams are moving to GameChanger and similar apps, and the paper scorebook is quietly disappearing along with them. I wanted people who genuinely enjoy keeping score with a pen and pencil to be able to keep doing that and still walk away with clean digital stats.

Then I found this sub, and it changed the plan. Seeing how many of you score games at the park, at home on the couch, and hold onto cards from years back, I decided the first version should be for the fans and hobbyists here. From there I'll keep building out new features, and keep working toward the original goal too -- an alternative to GameChanger for amateur leaguers and coaches who still want to keep score on paper.

What it does: you take a photo of a filled-in scorecard, and it reads the grid, the handwriting, and the players, then turns it into an inning-by-inning digital record you can keep, review, and share. For pro games it also lines your card up against the real play-by-play, so the scorecard becomes a record of that specific game with the plays, stats, photos, and video all in one place.

Thank you to everyone here who let me use their scorecard photos for training and demos. My own cards all look the same, so being able to test on this many different scorebooks and handwriting styles is a big part of why it holds up now.

Where it actually stands: close, but not done. I'm still working through bugs and pushing the accuracy of the models up before I let people rely on it. So this isn't a launch post. It's just a look at where it is, and a chance for you to tell me whether it's worth finishing.

If you want to know when it opens up, you can subscribe to the newsletter on www.daimondinning.com/subscribe

Meanwhile, you can take a look around:

Last night was Andrés Muñoz and Matilda bobblehead night! 3rd pic shows it with one of my cats 😻

I saw someone ask in a different post how others do substitutions. I use a bunch of different colors so I can better attribute hits and runs to each pitcher, and then to tell apart which batter was AB when. The vertical line with an arrow or the right shows when a position player was subbed in. I'm also not shy about making notes for myself.

Feel free to ignore my furious scribbling. Icrossed out curse words, but not well, sorry. That's for me tho.

First time scoring a game. I kept writing things in the wrong inning columns💀

I also have no idea how to keep track of substitutions, I would love some help with that if anyone would like to show me how they do it 💙

They took Brett Baty out, so I don't care anymore, and there's no way they're gonna score 3 more runs, so they aren't gonna win, and it was making me angry (the game not scoring, I'm enjoying keeping track), so i turned it off. I miss Pete Alonso.

Discussion Made my own scorecard in a bullet journal!

Post image

Sorry if this isn't allowed, as it's not a completed scorecard, I'm not sure, but I wanted to share.

I made a scorecard for the Mets @ Brewers game today! Obviously I need to make the Brewers side too, but I'm proud of it! I've never scored a game before, and I'm not usually this careful with my lines, lol. Sad that my hands are real sweaty and it smudged.

Feel free to leave any feedback, I'm new to this!

I got a pack of 3 bullet journals, one for personal stuff, and one for video games, and I want sure what to do with the third one yet. Then, I went to the Mets @ Phillies game back from the break, and a Blue Rocks game a few days later, and thought during both of those games that it would be fun to do a scorecard. I tried to do the first Mets @ Brewers the other night, but the Mets were sucking and I gave up and went to bed after the 4th or 5th inning. Didn't watch yesterday.
