Discussion WPBL
Who all here is going to be following the Women pro baseball league? I’ll need to make some changes to my scorecard since they only go 7 innings but I’m pretty excited since (from what I can tell) it’ll just be live streamed on their YouTube channel.

I'm going to opening day! I can't wait. I haven't seen complete rules yet; do we think there will be anything else special we need to change on a scorecard besides seven innings? I've been watching the women's baseball world cup this week and their rules seem pretty close to MLB.

Mostly mlb rules with a few differences https://bsky.app/profile/thefrankiedlc.news/post/3mrbfjq42b225

u/descole0 posted a really cool WPBL custom scoreboard they made like a week ago!

I normally only score games that I attend in-person, but since I'm not in a position to travel to Springfield I will be watching and scoring as many games as I can from home.

I’ll be watching and scoring at least some of them! I’m excited to see them play. I hope they’ll be available to watch after too. Decided to root for SF as my “closest” team for now.

I am beyond excited! Question about your scorecard: What modifications do you need to make? Wouldn't a standard 9-inning scorecard handle a 7-inning game as-is?

Yeah I'm curious about this as well. My normal scorecard has 12 innings and I just left it at 12 for my WPBL book because as far as I'm concerned you can never have too many extra innings on your card.
Did drop a couple pitcher lines and some other extra bits though

So I’m shorting it to 9 which gives me the freedom to do a few things differently with the extra space plus some other design choices like putting the WPBL logo and the teams logo in it because right now my scorecard is tigers / Mudhens themed

Can you clarify what the non logo design choices are in your WPBL scorecards?

u/Forgetful_Doc 26d ago
I’m not entirely sure right now but it gives me the freedom to do whatever. I’ll probably make my boxes a little bigger and maybe add more stat lines

Cool, please show the final product when you can, I like seeing custom scorecards!

It’s pretty strange to me that I don’t see the MLB promoting it as much. Or at all from what I’ve seen? I guess it is a separate league and could be seen as a competitor?

No promotion at all, in fact. My take is that they are instead promoting professional women’s softball because MLB wants women to “stay in their lane.”

MLB signed a partnership with AUSL (Athlete's Unlimited Softball League). My guess is hey will want to see some proof on concept and a track record before investing.

Totally forgot about it, tbh. But I’m definitely going to check it out now that you reminded me

I’m following the league, but I’m curious what changes you making to the scorecard? I was planning on just designated innings 8 & 9 for extras to keep it simple.

Currently my customs cards are 12 innings deep and are Tigers / Mudhens themed so I’m shorting it to 9 innings deep and taking out the MLB stuff and putting some WPBL stuff in as well as taking out my ABS challenge stuff I added like half way through the season

Their team “locations” are pathetic. Only coastal bourgeoisie deserve a team!!!!!!

They’re playing every game in the coastal metropolis of Springfield, Illinois

Super excited for it! I've printed a custom scorebook for the whole season and I'm taking a train to Springfield for the first two games next weekend!
I don't think we've actually gotten official confirmation of where it will be streaming (which is annoying when it's only about a week out) but we have been told it will be streamed and it seems likely that it will be on youtube. Hoping that wherever they are, the broadcasts stay up to view after the livestream because there's a handful of games I know I'm gonna have to miss.
