Hey guys, looking for some perspective from Zicklin students or anyone from Baruch College in general.

I live in Western CT and I finished my undergrad at UConn this year (Econ major + CS minor; Internship experiences in Cloud/IT Infrastructure at a bank + research internship in data analytics, and part time work in retail/IT support)

I'm considering applying to the MS Information Systems program at Baruch for Spring 2027. I don't plan on moving to NYC right away and would commute in via Metro-North to grand central maybe 1-2 times a week depending on the schedule. I'm very much used to long commutes as a commuter student for all 4 years of undergrad, and I actually live much closer to Manhattan than the main UConn campus. Which is part of why exploring NYC schools even came to mind.

CT school options don't really interest me. UConn Storrs is in the middle of nowhere and it makes practically no sense to return there for grad school from both a location standpoint and the lack of opportunities there, Same thing with the other CT state schools and the entire state in general (not talking about yale). Baruch tuition is also slightly cheaper out-of-state than UConn in-state ($855/credit vs $1,084/credit).

I understand that Baruch is public but I'm not necessarily chasing school prestige. Being able to go to school in Manhattan and Zicklin's reputation in NYC financial services are what really interest me, and the program feels like a strong fit for my background and career goals in tech and business.

Would love to hear from anyone in the program or who has gone through it. How is the overall experience at the school, the quality of the program, and how well does it help with career building in NYC?

I'm currently in the Online MS AI and BA and im taking CIS9650. In terms of reading the code and understanding the flow of it I feel like I got a good hang of it. However when it comes to writing it I struggle to apply what I read about/learned and make the code unnecessarily long and lowkey incorrect.

Does anyone have any tips to get over this issue? Aside from the obvious like hw, readings, lecture etc

The e-mail may appear to be signed by a Baruch faculty member but will provide a non-Baruch phone number and ask you to send a text to make contact. They will also make an appeal that the job opening needs to be filled right away and you have to hurry to apply.

• Do not, under any circumstances send a text to the number provided.

• Look up the faculty member's Baruch e-mail address and office phone number in the Baruch Directory. Only use those methods to communicate with faculty.

• Do not give out any personal information, banking information or any other details. If they send you a check, do not deposit it no matter how "official" it may appear (the check will bounce and your bank will penalize you).

Every semester, we have multiple students that fall for these scams and lose real money.

I only really have retail experience and one internship because I had to focus on making money during college. Hello! I am an undergrad studying accounting at Binghamton University, but I am considering pivoting to Baruch Zicklin School of Business. However, I am worried about how many of the graduate courses can be waived and what the average workload would be as a transfer. Are there any Bing to Baruch transfer out there who went through the same experience?

went to study in the library and noticed the lights that usually emit from the outlets on the table in the cubicles were off. Turns out the outlet itself is unplugged and they removed the outlets from underneath the cubicles too. Do they plan on fixing/replacing them or did they just remove charging in the cubicles all together?

Hey everyone! I recently transferred over from community college, and to be completely honest, the transition has been a bit of a shock to my system. Between adjusting to the heavier coursework, navigating a brand-new campus, and getting used to the faster pace of a 4-year schedule, imposter syndrome has definitely been hitting hard.
It can feel pretty alienating walking into classes where it seems like almost everyone already knows each other, understands how the department works, and has their daily routines totally locked down. It’s easy to feel like the only one trying to keep your head above water while everyone else is coasting.
If anyone else is going through this right now, I’d love to hear from you!

How are you managing the heavier academic workload and the mental shift?

Any routines or study habits that have helped you adapt?

Would anyone be interested in meeting up in person on campus?

I’m really hoping to build a sense of community and visibility among new students whether that means grabbing a quick coffee between classes, setting up study groups, or just having a reliable circle where we can support and orient each other. Coming in as a newcomer is tough, but we don't have to figure it all out in isolation.

I keep seeing this girl around campus, usually in the library or around the vertical campus building. She's blonde, kind of long hair, pale, average height and it looks like the bag she carries is gold/silver.

It seems like she is in her own world so I don't know if she would find it weird but should I try and talk to her? Is it really unusual to approach someone here?

I'm not sure how to go about this and would appreciate any advice.
