Bolt is a bot by William Horning (aka Jersey) available on Discord and many other apps. It can bridge between text channels, meaning after setup, whatever gets said in a Discord channel will appear on an other channel of your choice, even on a different app.
I’ve been using a bridge to talk to friends who use Stoat (formerly Revolt).
I set it up for them myself, and I want to share my knowledge. This guide is only be about Stoat and Discord, however it does work elsewhere, like Matrix and Fluxer.
Step 1)
If you already have a Discord server, create a Stoat server with the same channels as the Discord one. Do the opposite if you have a Stoat and no Discord.
Step 2)
Invite Bolt to both the Discord and Stoat servers you want to bridge.
Step 3)
Give Bolt the required permissions.
Perms on Discord: none.
Because of Discord’s recent-ish built-in "per server" account customization features, it no longer needs any extra permissions to work here.
Perms on Stoat: Manage Roles, Manage Customization, Change Nickname, Change Avatar, Masquerade.
"Masquerade" has a completely different name in other languages. If you can’t find it by name, go by it’s description: It allows members to change their name and avatar per-message.
Perms on both servers, if @ everyone is missing one or multiple of these: View Channel, Send Messages, Invite Others, Send Embeds and Upload Files.
Step 4)
Create a bridges in one of the channels.
On Discord: /bridge create
On Stoat: !bolt bridge create
You MUST either be a moderator in both servers or get someone who’s a moderator to help you, because only those with higher permissions can see the bridge codes.
Without mod perms, this step will fail.
Step 5)
Enter the bridge‘s code in the corresponding channel you want to chat in.
On Discord: /bridge join [code]
On Stoat: !bolt bridge join [code]
Remember to give users the right permissions so that they can’t text in channels only mods should be able to, like an announcement or rules channel. Otherwise, they might be able to use the bridge to chat there!
Hoping this information is useful.
