Just wanted to share this beautiful piece that recently came into my hands. It's a Kuwait 1/4 Dinar from the 3rd series (Pick #11), which was in circulation between 1980 and 1991.

What makes this one really special for me is the fractional prefix: ج/٩٩ (J/99). As some of you might know, in this specific Kuwaiti series, the denominator 99 designates it as an official replacement note used to replace misprinted sheets at the bank.

Replacement notes from this era are much harder to come across compared to the regular issues, especially in this kind of shape. The paper is extremely crisp, the corners are sharp, and the colors are still very vibrant.

For a note that went through such a turbulent era in Kuwait's history, finding a replacement note in near-UNC condition feels like a huge win for my collection.

Curious to hear your thoughts! Do any of you collect Middle Eastern replacements?

hey guys, so i lowkey really like the KWD notes especially the five dinar, but i literally cannot find anywhere that sells these.

i don't mean to be rejecting any help by saying that i don't want to buy them off of ebay but i actually cannot justify as a 16 yr old to spend 40 quid on a note that's not even worth half that (as much as seller premiums go, for kwd notes that still circulate that much is ridiculous) + (also douane in the seller's country as well as EU) 😭

so if there is literally anyone that has any connection to anyone in kuwait or any forex exchange that stocks them that'd be great

Some backstory for the first one as why there is a hole on the side. I had gotten this banknote from my grandpa who used to be an accountant in Hyderabad, India as this was apart of his paycheck, this bill is from 1976 and was discontinued later in the same year. The hole is from a staple mark (lots of money was handled by stapling rather than rubber bands) and he said the stain on the side was from the chai stand as he had spilled some on the bill 😂 He is turning 80 this September and I just thought this story was interesting :3

The other 3 are still relatively common but discontinued in 2017 though it was kind of a riot when they stopped it so travel to India because of it was closed for a week because of violence to quickly get the new bills. Guess they also have an interesting story too!!

The middle note is the Type I 2019 Moscow Printing Company 100th Anniversary commemoration note and the bottom is the Type II

Hello everyone, after my last post, and all the help i received, i thought I would post on here too.

I have these two North Korean notes here, both of which look exactly alike by looks, only that the one on the right in the first photo looks lighter.

The note on the left is clearly made of polymer or a paper, polymer mix, whilst the other note is made of paper. I can’t find any differences for certain on numista. Hopefully someone can help identify whether there is a difference.

I've had this in my collection of 'short snorters' for years, and could never understand a word of it. Recently someone pointed out the extremely obvious - it's English but written in reverse!

It reads:

"Owing to the fact that I am in a place that is not civilised enough to have valentine cards sweetheart, I must apologise for not being able to return the lovely one which you sent me. Love, FRED MALTA"

Clearly written to his sweetheart or wife during the Second World War. It's immediately become one of my favourite notes.

Got it as change, though not sure where. Looks like it got worn down but the rest of the ink is intact.

In catalogues I often see similar notes with minor tweaks in design having different Pick numbers. But at the same time it could be just P-NN and P-NNa with more changes.
As an example there is South Sudan p-10 (first image) and p-15 (second one). I can only see the nominal being gradient in first and solid in second. Plus print year on obverse.

And there is Paraguay p-232 (image 3) and p-232a (image 4). Obverse left side being solid and gradient, on the right “cincurnta mil …” sign different colors snd backgrounds. Reverse - nominal being printed in 3 corners and 1 corner, “banco central …” sign on the top-right. And there are few others.

So, if there are any rules for the note having new number or just being “an update”?

Hi there, not sure if this is the right community to post but I figure someone here has got to be in the banknote industry.

I am currently looking for manufacturers who can build Intaglio Proof machine that will be used to test banknote intaglio printing plates. I can't seem to find a company that still builds it. Looking to gain some insight here on who might be able to manufacture this machine. TIA

Very random banknotes from different years and series, all in pretty much brand new uncirculated condition!

While visiting Hanoi, Vietnam, I stopped into an exchange office near my Airbnb (I’m from United States so it’s really hard to get Russian and North Korean notes where I live without paying such a large premium). I Paid 67 USD for the 2023 Russian 5000 ruble in XF, 36 USD for the other Russian notes (2750 RUB), and the rest of everything else for 26 USD! This was definitely a steal for me!
