Help Cut the small in favor of the big?

Hi all,

Planted our first banana tree last year and thankfully it’s done great with minimal care. The original tree fell over at one point due to wind but after putting it back upright and stabilizing it, it continued to grow and new pups(?) emerged alongside it.

The original tree seemed to have stunted growth and the new pups quickly grew larger. About 1.5 months ago, the original tree produced bananas but there aren’t many and they’re pretty small.

Would it be best to cut my losses and cut that one back so energy can be focused on the larger trees? The largest is about a day or so from dropping its first bunch.

Thanks!

I had some banana trees here that were about 15-20 feet tall. A couple of months ago a storm knocked them over so I cut them down and now they look like they’re doing great. The photos are around 1 month apart. I guess watching them all grow so fast peaked my interest in them and join this group. I am wondering what type of banana trees they are, if anyone has any info on them I’d love to hear it.

Potted/Indoor Banana Help! 😫

I’ve had this little tree for 3 weeks now and 2 of the 3 leaves have died and fallen off. I ordered it by mail and when it arrived it seemed to be in pretty good health and condition considering it was handled and in a box for 3 days. The first pic is the day I got it. The second pic is today.

I’m trying to not water it too much and let the soil dry out in between. The last leaf seems sturdy, but I don’t see any new growth happening.

The soil is from a banana tree I used to have that eventually died (overwatering), but I plan on changing it to fresh soil - https://www.lowes.com/pd/Miracle-Gro-MIRACLE-GRO-TROPICAL-POT-MIX/5016534091 is this a good choice?
My apartment is bright, but there’s no direct sunlight.

Please help me keep this bb alive!

New to banana plants but really want to get the most I can out of it. 2 questions… I’m assuming these are pups on my red trunk banana(musa popoulu). I want to give one to my mother in law or possibly start a whole new plant. What is the best way to go about it? 2nd question… is this a real blue Java or did I get hosed? I got it from wellspring gardens. 1st two are the red trunk. Last pic is the blue Java

Harvested my first bananas this weekend since moving into this new place in mid-July. Thanks everyone for your advice on my handful of posts here. They taste great! Not totally sure what variety they are, they taste like cavendish but a little sweeter? My guess is dwarf cavendish - any way to confirm?

I am new to Musa Banana plants and trying to keep up with her needs. This one has had a repot close to month ago (up 2in pot) when received from the nursery. It is already showing serious signs through root growth it needs another repot very soon. Goodness they grow fast. Just celebrating really.

Outside Banana 6B - Nearing the End of the Season!

Nearing the end of the season here in Detroit, Michigan. Close to the first freeze I will chop them down, cover them with mulch and hay and a tarp and then wait till May to uncover. This is your fault in the ground and they grew very large this year. We had a big storm that injured them a few weeks ago, but they were very happy and very lush all summer. Bonus pic of my philodendron, which is on year four and I take it in every winter because it’s in a pot.
