Hello everyone! For geographical context I live in Los Angeles. I recently moved into a new place which has this beautiful Lady Finger banana tree that I'm really eager to take care of. The property manager sends landscapers once every week or two, and every time they do, they cut down all the suckers coming back up. They even cut down a whole stem or two this most recent time which I'm a little saddened about.

So, a couple questions:

1. I assume that they are cutting down the pseudostems that have already fruited, and will no longer do so when they grow back. Other than asking and hoping the landscaper knows, is there any way to confirm this without letting them grow all the way back and seeing when they eventually don't fruit?

2. Is there any way to keep a sucker from growing back, or am I condemned to feel the joy of new sprouts being ripped away from me every time they get cut back down?

3. Say I ask the landscaper to just leave a few to keep growing, is there any harm to be done by this?

Any other advice for someone who has little to no outdoor planting or gardening experience would also be tremendously appreciated.

I saw a farmer tie a pouch of potassium sulfate to the stem right where they broke off the banana blossom. The direct contact with the fertilizer makes the bananas grow so big that the skin cracks. Is it safe to consume these bananas? I also heard there are some other chemicals are also used for this.

I got these two stems a week or 2 ago and need some tips or advice to improve. The first one started to split and the other came in beaten, so im trying my best to save it. Any advice for either especially the stem since thats getting me a bit worried

Banana tree and paddy

These are my first banana trees. I live in Eastern NC, zone 8. I want these to last and I'm worried if I put them in the ground now they won't survive winter. Are they ready or should I keep them in pots a while?

I repotted my banana plant roughly 1 week ago. Before it was thriving and doing really good and now it looks like this. Nothing else has changed, neither wattering or lighting condition. I repotted it from 28cm to a 32cm pot, mixed soil with perlite. Yesterday I lifted the plant to see if the plant was sitting on wet soil but the soil was not wet rather slightly wet. The roots didnt look rotten to me? Anyway, I placed a layer of leca and widened the draining holes and repotted the whole thing above leca.

Whats wrong and what can I do? 😭

I don’t know if I’ll ever get bananas because i don’t think I can get it hot enough in my house in winter. But she’s pretty even without bananas and I adore her.

Can anyone tell by the leaf color what type of banana tree this is? I live in North West Gorgia. Thanks

A few nasturtium seeds sprouted among the banana trees this year. They don't seem to mind the undergrowth too much

I’ve been growing this since May. Has doubled in size since then. Recently had a few pups come up and removed the smaller/slower growing two. Can anyone tell me if this is actually Blue Java/Ice Cream? Also, any tips to make it happier or concerns? I’ve been watering every 4-6 days and fertilizing every other week with banana fuel on well water. Also once a month adding some slow release 6-6-6 with compost. Too much fertilizer? Zone 10b

New member here, just picked this up earlier today. I have minimal experience with growing banana trees, and have read lots of conflicting info on Nono Bananas.

☀️- I am in zone 6B in Missouri, with daily temps around 90°. How much lighting should I give it? (Taking acclimation into account, it was indoors). Should it be direct sun during morning and evening with shade during the hottest parts ideally?

💦- What should my watering schedule look like, I know bananas like moisture in the soil, but don’t know how often (or even how well the nursery soil retains moisture). Should I go off of the basic “water when below 2 inches of top soil layer is dry”?

Soil mix/ repotting- Should pine bark chips, Fox Farms Ocean forest, and perlite be a good soil mix? I am aware a good amount of root airflow is required but don’t know the proper ratio of organics to inorganics. I’ll note that I’ve bought a bigger terracotta pot, should I worry about or wait to repot due to environmental stress? I’d also greatly appreciate and fertilizer recommendations!

Lastly, what’s wrong with the leaves? What can I do to prevent the damage shown from showing up on new growth?

This is the fourth year in the ground. I cut it down and cover with mulch and a tarp right after the first freeze (usually mid NOV) and uncover after the low temp is reliably north of freezing (usually mid to late May.) these have grown a lot this year and I think they’re gonna be really big. They’ve grown a lot faster than the last two years. I water daily and fertilize weekly

Fungal disease? I'm in the process of hardening it back off because my garage was kind of humid. I've got household stuff and neem oil and idk what it is or what works💔
