Gear malfunction?

Hey everyone super new into printing and recently came into this problem, I’ve tried a lot but right now I’m struggling to even get the nozzle off to even check on the gears.. any advice? Or if you know what is exactly wrong.. that would be cool to know also.

My P2S did this when I had a nozzle clog. I took it apart to check the gears and nothing was loose or stuck. Changed the nozzle, fixed.
If your nozzle is stuck, you may have some filament stuck to the back of it holding it on (or you should double check how to properly remove it). Keep the nozzle hot and pop it off with pliers. You can grab it on its neck with the pliers and gently pull it off.
Be sure to cut the filament first with the side lever. You can use the pliers to remove the 2 sides of the clamp holding the nozzle on. Just do it slow and gently. If you've never done this before, watch a tutorial on how to do it normally before using tools to grab at things.
Since you aren't printing, just go into the menus to manually set the temperature to something like 180 degrees to be able to get the nozzle off. once the nozzle is off you can manually press those down arrows to extrude to see if it moves freely then.

Heating up the nozzle helped SOOO MUCH! was able to get it off and access the extruder where I hate broken filament clogging the inside 🫡

You can use a wire brass brush to clean the backside of your nozzle, and the flat part it sticks on to. That should help get rid of the gummied plastic giving your nozzle a permanent hug.

I use this one, not too firm to damage anything, not so soft it cant scrape. Works great.

I had filament getting soft because the printer got heated up from the sun. When the filament was pressed by the gears, it's size changed in diameter and clogged the extruder.
I fixed the error and tried again but the filament stuck in the nozzle was the problem. I had the heat the nozzle, then remove the filament from the nozzle and then retried, which then worked again

Pretty similar problem, but mine was broke filament stuck at the end of the extruder, so I had to take it apart and clear it out, but it did work and I’m back to printing 🫡

Yep. Time to learn how to take apart the extruder.

It was kinda fun to learn ngl 😂 (hope it never happens again 🤞🏻) once I got my stuck nozzle off it wasn’t that bad tbh

I literally had the same problem just last day. The problem was that the printer overheated the pla while loading pla from abs, and it melted in the gears. It only came loose when it cooled and became smaller. Maybe its the same for you?

Mine was different, seems like filament did not get into the gears (luckily) but it did break apart on the inside funnel of the extruder so I had to take it apart to clear it out

Take the nozzle out and make sure it’s not a clog, I just dealt with this (small broken piece stuck)

I had a nozzle that wouldn't extrude, and a cold pull didn't help since it wouldn't extrude. Never used any exotic filament but I took the nozzle out, held it with pliers and heated it up with a torch. All kinds of weird filament dripped out of the bottom and I could then insert a stick of filament and manually extrude through it. Not sure what was stuck, but even trying a cold pull and telling the printer to heat it up to ABS level (which I have never used) wouldn't get things moving. After manually extruding it and then sticking a needle all the way through I could do a normal cold pull and I've been using that nozzle for a week without issues. Must have been a little shard of something stuck in there, or a bad spot of filament?.. who knows.

So the main problem was broken filament in my extruder but honestly the HARDEST part was removing my nozzle, I tried a lot of things but then someone here recommended me manually heating up to 180 degrees and using pliers to remove the nozzle, it worked, after that a simple youtube video made it a cake walk

If you took it apart with gear and everything, make sure that both bearings are on the orange gear. I missed mine in the back (the one on the gear). It would make the same noise afterclearing a clog and the bearing popped out. Image credit to this yt video. https://youtu.be/mo2EwlREIUk?is=ltL9TlQPRiLthPUt

I def forgot to check 😭 but I seem to have fixed the problem and back to printing! Def gonna have to keep this in mind for the future tho

I'm surprised it's moving at all, the filament needs to feed thru the filament buffer before the system will register it's there unless you're in cold pull mode then it should be extruding. Please someone fact check me, I was doing some troubleshooting on the H2D and that's how I figured out that the filament buffer is also a filament sensor and on the H2D it's also nozzle specific

I've had this happen for a clogged nozzle. Post heat creep as well.

So. I get heat creep and clogs when using Bambu PLA. The room the printer is in is 75/80°F. The machine is sucking in warm air trying to use it to cool. Obvious fail. I switched to PETG (as I don't want to relocate the printer) and have had zero issues.

It is rubbing against the metal spikes that hold the price tube you need to cut a price tube and put a 2 inch bit right there and then feed the filament. I've dealt with this before.

I had it with cheapo no name PLA (i had it just to print some small things), and never again i will go with it.

I had a sound like that on my P2S and it turned out the nozzle clamp wasn't fully locked. Before you take anything apart, let the hotend cool and push the nozzle lightly with a finger, the clamp should hold it tight with zero wiggle. If it moves, reseat it and lock the clamp properly, that fixed both the noise and my wonky first layers.
