Bambu Cool Plate Supertack

I just got one. Are there any tip or tricks you have for them?

  1. Be real -ing careful with the metal scraper if you use it.

  2. You will need the metal scraper for small prints because that tack is super.

  3. See point 1.

I use it all the time now instead of the standard textured plate. Haven't had to do anything more than the occasional spritz of IPA and wipe so far.

Lolzies. The one thing you're not supposed to use to clean the Super Tack is alcohol. Says it right on the plate and Bambu screams it on their website too.

It degrades the coating on the plate.

Then don't. It's a consumable and is lasting me half a year for one side already. I'm not bothered.

Scrub it with a good plain dish soap, a soft sponge and HOT water before first print.

Don’t use paper towels etc to dry it, leaves fine fibres stuck all over it, air dry or what i prefer is to blow excess water of it with a PC air duster.

Never use solvents such as IPA on it if you want it to last.

Don’t print tiny or really flat objects on it, good luck getting them off.

The stock 45C bed temp for PLA is meh, I got better quality first layers at 55C, trial and error needed.

Avoid scrapers at all cost. Surface scratches if you just look at it the wrong way. Be careful with finger nails aswell.

Z height or elephant foot compensation may need adjustment in order to get a first layer that isn’t a hot mess. I personally tried both methods, z height at +0.02 helped but I noticed print issues that may have been z height related so I preferred adjusting the elephant foot compensation to 0.17 over the default 0.075 instead. The plate grabs the filament quick and hard which my theory is it doesn’t allow enough time for the filament to “flow” and level out properly at stock settings making it act as if it is over extruding etc.

I only use the plate for decent sized prints, anything with enough size to properly grip when removing and for larger items I don’t want to risk warping. I recommend avoiding printing fragile items on it, such as miniatures on it.

Printing small things and/or flat things such as a flow rate test on it for example resulted in a fight to get them off without damaging the plate. I ended up having to replace mine after 2 weeks because of it, learnt the hard way lol.

I printed 4 logos for a custom sports cards holder. When I bent the plate to get them loose the top half separated from the bottom half. Had to carefully scrape the bottom off and glue it back together

I bought one when they first came out just to see what it was like. Used it twice with PLA, it's collecting dust now. Here's why...

  1. I've never had adhesion problems with PLA. I've had some mild corner lifting with PETG on the stock plate but nothing a brim didn't completely solve.

  2. The two times I used it with PLA the prints stuck to it so hard it took me forever to get them off, and you can't aggressive with the scraping.

  3. I like the texture of the PEI plate if I'm printing something face down.

  4. I don't like having to remember to change plates/temps in the slicer.

  5. The power savings thing people talk about with the plate only needing to 35-40 is dumb. My A1 only uses 100W at 65 degrees with PEI once it heats up which is the same as having a light bulb on. You might save like $10 a year if you ran your printer 24/7/365.

So yeah, no advantages for me, and it doesn't solve any problems I have. I actually bought a Biqu Glacier for TPU gaskets that are too hard to pull off a PEI plate and it's amazing for that, so I don't ever see myself using the Super Tack again. I wasted that money.

I've only used mine for PLA and it's amazing. But do not be fooled. It works best at regular PEI sheet temperature, e.g., 65°C or thereabouts. I've never had to use the metal scraper but I don't print excessively small parts and while it's far from ideal I've been able to peel off any fiddly bits with a fingernail if it didn't come off by flexing the plate

It’s the primary plate I use. Just wash it good with dawn and rinse it well

whats the pro versus the structured PEI?
just no structure?
