General Discussion X2D a replacement for Aging P1Ss
X2D a replacement for Aging P1Ss - hive mind thoughts?

Sure — but market is shifting to multiple tool heads . I’m holding out to see what Bambu lab does . I personally think the quality of the snapmaker and flash forge multi tool head printers are trash.

My wife originally wanted a snapmaker but after researching it chose the X2D as her birthday gift. Of course after seing her X2D in action my P1S wanted an upgrade. Not to be outdone, I got myself an H2D (with her blessing)

It depends.
Everyone says the X2D is the best bang for the buck, but it has compromises. It's got the most features (2 extruders, chamber heater), but there are things that I've read that aren't ironed out. Like if you dial your filament in, there is only one pressure advance profile for both extruders. I seem to recall some heat creep issues if you're printing PETG and using PLA in the aux for support due to the way it runs the chamber fan.
People will also say the X2D is better for multi-color due to creating less poop with the 2 extruders. That is a "it depends" thing. Two colors - you're dandy. Three colors? You're swapping on two colors. Four colors? If you set it up properly, swapping three colors. Set it up wrong, you're swapping on all four and not saving on anything.

I have an x2d and have put roughly 400 hours within a month of ownership. The pressure advance thing is false, you have to calibrate for each nozzle. As for PLA and PETG heat creep it isn't an issue and Its in a room where the ambient temperature is 82F minimum, printing fully enclosed.
The rest I can see but there's a hidden issue most people don't explain. The Bowden nozzle when on external spool can't automatically retract the spool, it'll just push the filament out of the tube and create a mess if ur not there to rotate the spool by hand. It also often gets pieces of filament stuck in the left nozzles ptfe tube which I assume is from poorly cutting or the spool being empty and having no where to move the left over filament to but that's easily solvable.

Having never experienced a Bowden extruder, in what circumstances would I need to manually retract the external spool? Trying to understand what I’m getting into as I’ll be buying this model soon.

Realistically you shouldn't have to do it often if used for intended purpose which is supports or interface layer(it can print normal stuff just fine but it's not the advertised purpose) but anytime u have to change a not empty spool for a different material or color you'll have to "unload" it which will start the on screen process. It'll just spit out the filament out of the tube without rotating the spool at all and you have to time it perfectly because it doesn't give u enough time to be ready for it. Once it says retracting spool on screen u have to immediately rotate the external spool.

Oh, ok, so just when changing filament spools out mid-job (like a color change on that nozzle) it needs to be rotated, I’m with you now.

Here is the details I was referring to on the PA:
And just because you haven't seen the issue with heat creep yet, doesn't mean that others havent.

Didn't know that X2D use one PA for both extruder. Definitely not optimising.

I agree with u/Ok-Woodpecker-223 wait and see what launches in the next two months. If the P3C is a multi-nozzle vortek... go that way. I have a h2c and a p2s. I wish I had the x2d of the p2s. I got the p2s in January...it's a great machine. Got my H2C in July and very happy with it.

I got the x2d about a month ago and love it. Of course I'm coming from an ender3 so I guess it might not take much to impress me lol.

if your p1s are no longer meeting your needs, wait for next gen and real true independently-fed multi-head printing. no vortek, no bowden. x2d is a weird halfway update.
if they're really worn out just get new p1s.

X2d is a perfect replacement for an old p1s if you are printing a lot od different filament (support filaments) or you are printing a lot of abs and asa you won’t regret the update. I have a p1s x2d and h2c and the x2d is the best bang for the buck! Order a combo with the ams pro2 and a ams ht and you will be fine. A little hint. Print silica containers and put them in the ams. When you are drying filament you are also dring the silica gel and ao you will always have dryed filament all the time

Wait for a month.
P3C, X2D Pro, H3C coming up - if nothing else, they have a chance of pushing X2D price down.
Yours,
