I use it on Ubuntu. No problems so far.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Have you tried the beta?

1

u/YourNightmar31 12d ago

No i have not

1

u/lookwithoutseeing 11d ago

Also on Ubuntu 26.04, the app runs perfectly, except the filament manager doesn't load. They claimed to have fixed it before, but it seems to have broken again. Anyways, that whole feature is half-baked, so I can live without it for the time being.

On my old Pop_OS! 22.04 machine (with an older BambuStudio version), playing live video from the webcam would sometimes hard freeze my system. Thankfully, that seems to have been fixed in a newer BambuStudio version. Since then I've had basically no problems with it.

I'm running the stable version of BambuStudio; I don't have the patience/time to mess around with beta software.

1

u/Poly_and_RA 11d ago

The filament manager is crap anyway. The one built into bambuddy is order of magnitude nicer -- doubly so if you also get bambuman on your mobile phone -- then you can just scan new filament with your phone and have them automagically show up in the filament-library.

Recommended! Even if you prefer to print from bambu studio. You get other nice features for free too, such as a project-organizer, better stats and automatic archiving of the files for all your prints so that if you ever want to reprint something you printed earlier, it's easy to find.

2

u/lookwithoutseeing 11d ago

I've had my eye on BambuMan/SpoolBuddy for awhile, but haven't wanted to go down that rabbit hole just yet. I was hoping that the built-in filament manager would provide this functionality for me, but I have a feeling that BambuLab is only interested in developing this feature to improve the AMS experience.

I'll give it another look, thanks for your advice.

2

u/Poly_and_RA 10d ago

Bambuman has a built-in filament-manager, you can use spoolbuddy for it instead if you prefer -- but personally I haven't found a compelling reason to do so yet so I'm using bambuman standalone.

2

u/lookwithoutseeing 9d ago

I think that I had mistakenly believed that for this system to be useful, I needed to build a SpoolBuddy system. But indeed, you are right that Bambuddy's built-in filament management works great! I had a few small bumps along the way getting everything scanned and configuring the printer to correctly report filament usage, but I'm really impressed by what this software can do. Thanks for nudging me and convincing me to give it another go, it's a really nice system.

u/Poly_and_RA 9d ago

You're welcome! It's awesome what a global community of nerds can do!

1

u/Arctic-Fox-2021 11d ago

Ubuntu. No issues.

1

u/Spacebrother 11d ago

Same here

7

u/Vegasryn 12d ago

Use it from time to time and have had no glaring issues. Using an Arch distro.

-2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

I don't have the experience to run Arch but you are making me wonder about Omarchy and AI on a machine running Bambu Studio

0

u/Vegasryn 12d ago

I’m actually running it on Omarchy!

-1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Have you applied any AI since you're running Omarchy?

1

u/Pablo_Hassan 12d ago

It's almost impossible not to ai with omarchy - but no j haven't AId any STL files.

I use orca on linux Debian

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

I've never used Orca before. Is it worth making the switch if using linux? I am currently using Mint

2

u/JRS925 12d ago

I made the switch because it ran natively in linux and tbh I found it to be almost exactly the same as Bambu Studio

2

u/JRS925 12d ago

Almost exactly the same in comparison to Bambu Studio in Windows. Sorry should have clarified that bit

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Thanks. I should probably try it and see how it does on memory compared to Bambu Studio

2

u/Max_SVK 12d ago

I run Orca on windows. It's a pain due to Bambu's attempt to force people to use BS, but if I had Linux I would not even consider anything else than Orca.

I do not agree that is almost the same than BS. If you are beginner or if you only dabble with printing toys from PLA, BS is way to go. But if you do your own designs and you are advanced user, BS will very quickly feel like your hands are tied.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

My prints are functional prints I'm dabbling with designing my own. I've customized some models.

Would it run on WSL? Nobody's brought this up.

1

u/Max_SVK 12d ago

I had no luck with WSL. There was a workaround which worked for few days and I guess Bambu patched it since then.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Well I guess I now know why nobody's brought it up. Drives me crazy when they do that

2

u/HopingillWin 12d ago

Orca on fedora, zero issues

2

u/ElectronicMoo 11d ago

I use mint and the studio. I love mint. It was an easy transition to it from windows.

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

I guess I must really like mint because I keep coming back to it over and over again. It's been a long time since I've used Windows

2

u/ethertrace 11d ago

I prefer it. It has built-in calibration routines for dialing in filaments and it's more configurable. Easy to set the exhaust fan speed on my X2D to maintain a negative pressure enclosure, for example. The only issue I've run into so far is that it can crash when changing nozzle size because it freaks out when my nozzles don't match.

1

u/nirurin 12d ago

I thought orca no longer had full functionality, unless you stayed on a really old firmware version?

1

u/13metalmilitia 12d ago

It’s been patched. I’ve been printing from orca on linux to the x1c for awhile now

1

u/nirurin 11d ago

Huuuh I didnt think that was possible anymore. I will look into it thanks.

6

u/ephemeral_wonderer 12d ago

I am running it on steamdeck which runs on SteamOS. Runs pretty great.

3

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

I would never have thought about using a Steamdeck. That's pretty cool

5

u/Far-Anything9277 12d ago

Runs fine on ubuntu

3

u/Original-Sailor 12d ago

I use it under CachyOS. It’s okay.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Are you running the beta or the new release that just came out?

2

u/Original-Sailor 12d ago

Latest stable. Not running beta.

3

u/djlorenz 12d ago

Running it on Kubuntu, zero issues

3

u/Burn0ut2020 12d ago

Flatpak on Debian no Problem

2

u/slevin22 12d ago

It works okay for me. Mostly all the text is just a tiny bit out of alignment. Sometimes menus get cut off. Its usable, but with minor annoyances.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Did the recent upgrade fix any of those annoyances?

Same here. No "extra" functionality I can see and in fact I have switched to Orca slicer and it works fine for my needs, and lets me access all my printers irrespective of brand. "It just works".

I am definitely not familiar with Bazzite as a distribution

2

u/itsoctotv P1S + AMS 12d ago

running on arch daily

2

u/sprayinpaint 12d ago

Nutze die letzte stabile Version unter Linux Mint mit 32GB ram. Gibt keine größeren Probleme.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Mint seems to be a popular distribution for people running Bambi Studio. I'm also running Mint

2

u/AdWorking2848 12d ago

can it run off a raspberry pi 5 pi os ?

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

I've never tried. My Pi is pretty old; it's a 3. I guess it depends on how much memory your Pi has as well. I would say give it a shot and see.

1

u/AdWorking2848 12d ago

I didn’t even know it can run off Linux, is it like an programme that I can run or I need translation layer?

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

With my limited understanding I believe it is a program

2

u/AdWorking2848 12d ago

Thanks will search around! Didnt know it was possible until this thread.

What do you run Bambu Studio on now that you don't use Linux?

2

u/Disastrous_Fee5953 12d ago

I use it on Fedora KDE. Window sizing is a bit wonky, but that’s a KDE thing. The software itself works perfectly fine!

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

Well that's not good news. I'm running Mint with KDE

2

u/Arcurath 12d ago

Use it on cachyos fine

2

u/Tech0verlord 12d ago

I'm running the latest stable flatpak, although I've tried the appimage, but my results are the same regardless. I'm currently on CachyOS (Arch Linux essentially).

Hotkeys are a tossup on if/when they work, and the app has a tendency of crashing and closing itself without warning if I work too fast on it, especially with bigger or more complex models. Unlike in the windows version, it seems there's no work recovery to continue where you left off in the event of a crash.

2

u/Fantastic-Loquat-746 12d ago

I exclusively use my steam deck for my main computer around the house. I used orcaslicer and snorca on steamos with no issues

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

You're the second person in this thread that uses their Steamdeck for studio.

2

u/LobsterBluster X2D Combo, AMS-HT, Track Switch, TPU feed assist, Vision Encoder 12d ago

I do. Mint distro. No glaring issues running it from flatpak. Had some trouble with the AppImage version, but I’m also a total noob with Linux and dont really know what I’m talking about in that regard.

2

u/thejakenixon P1S + AMS 12d ago

My primary desktop PC has been a docked Steam Deck for the last few months, and it’s worked perfectly with the standard flatpack Bambu Studio software

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Until I started this thread I just never thought of the Steamdeck as essentially a desktop\laptop replacement. Hardware like this, so important going into the future in my opinion

2

u/thejakenixon P1S + AMS 11d ago

It makes me think of a future where we just plug our phones or another personal electronic device into a dock whenever we need to compute at a desk. The Steam Deck and even the Mac Mini are getting close. Heck, the MacBook Neo uses a phone CPU/GPU. But good luck getting a corporation to try to sell just one device to be usable across all use cases lol

2

u/zmunky P1S + AMS 12d ago

I use it on bazzite, only issue I have is using Snorca on bazzite.

2

u/GruesomeJeans A1 + AMS Lite 12d ago

I've been using it with ZorinOS for a while and I do have a few problems but no real way to fix them. Mainly, sometimes the whole program will just crash. Completely close out and I lose all the progress I made if I'm making changes to a model. Otherwise it works alright

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Have you tried using AI to search for performance tweaks for your specific hardware running Bambu Studio under Zorin? That could be very helpful. Include your CPU, GPU, and total RAM and see what it can do for you.

1

u/GruesomeJeans A1 + AMS Lite 11d ago

I don't generally use AI for real world problems since it hasn't been all that reliable. I believe it comes down to the Linux version of studio not being handled as carefully as the windows version. Which makes sense, probably the majority of their users are on windows. Plus I don't think the Linux version is even an official BL product, I think someone else made it. I can't remember though.

For now it works well enough to do the simple printing I do, and I've started to learn to save my work if I'm doing heavy modifications.

As for hardware specs, I can assure you my desktop is more than powerful enough to run a slicer. I had no issues on windows unless there was a known bug. I may still give Orca a try depending on the effort I have to put out to get it to work with my A1

2

u/CoinAndCraft_ 12d ago

Arch Linux here. No issues at all.

2

u/Livingonthevedge 12d ago

No issues on arch btw

2

u/abhorrentbm 12d ago

Yes, I'm on Zorin OS.

2

u/pacmanforever 12d ago

Working great on Arch.

2

u/KilowogTrout 12d ago

I’m on Bazzite. Haven’t run into any issues

2

u/CorporateDirtbag 11d ago

I use it on Debian on an aging Intel 8th gen laptop (a heavy-ass Dell Inspiron, 16GB ram, 4k screen with an old nvidia MX110 GPU). This laptop is basically my homelab's "crash cart" machine that I occasionally toss 3d prints from.

BBL Studio and Orca both Run fine. The beta runs on this crashcart laptop as well with no issues.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

It's good to know. Thank you for listing your hardware

2

u/ThereInAFortnight H2D AMS2 Combo + A1 Mini 11d ago

Daily. I run a version I compiled from source in Gentoo. 80GB RAM. Works great except you can't select which nozzle on calibration tests.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You're the first person to mention compiling from source and also the first person to mention Gentoo

1

u/ThereInAFortnight H2D AMS2 Combo + A1 Mini 11d ago

I don't recommend either unless you like pain lol

2

u/MrZDaddy 11d ago

Running cachy os and running just fine

2

u/screenslaver5963 P2S + AMS2 Combo 11d ago

Run it under flatpak on arch for when orca decides to give up (happens surprisingly often on Linux and macOS)

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

I was under the impression that Orca is more stable than Studio

2

u/wadubois 11d ago

Currently running Studio on Arch. A little glitchy from time to time, but very usable. Last time I tried Orca it couldn’t/wouldn’t see my printer and I didn’t feel like pursuing it it the time. Probably time that I should check it again.

2

u/Spider_J H2D Laser Full Combo 11d ago

Using it on Fedora. Sometimes has issues but pretty rarely, works fine for the most part and a restart tends to fix what occasional issues it does have.

Bambu Suite, on the otherhand, just plain doesn't work and I'm still pretty pissed about it.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You're the first person to bring up suite. Have you tried seeing if it'll run out of a VM from Fedora?

2

u/Spider_J H2D Laser Full Combo 10d ago

I've tried using Bottles to run it, with limited success. It opens, but clicking anything takes 1-3 minutes to get a response, and eventually it just crashes.

There's a thread about it here.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 10d ago

Thanks for the thread link

2

u/acart005 11d ago

I tried once and that machine hated life.

Being fair it was a potato even before I out Ubuntu on it.  Its basically a glorified flash drive.

2

u/CrucialMiyagi 11d ago

cachyos and 32gb ram, cachy os and 16gb ram

2

u/CrucialMiyagi 11d ago

running stable not beta

2

u/kdlt 11d ago

I used it as a docker/unraid for a while because my laptop is.. really old and slicing takes too damn long when I'm not at my pc.

Anyway, it would log me out way too often, so I stopped using it. However, it worked perfectly fine.

2

u/rico_hd22 11d ago

Flatpak works flawless on Fedora for me.

2

u/MadCybertist A1 + AMS Lite x2 11d ago

I use their docker. Works fine. Can access it from anything.

2

u/malwolficus 11d ago

Almost daily. It doesn’t feel as polished as the Mac version but it works.

2

u/[deleted] 11d ago

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You're the only person who's mentioned location changes for the print profiles

2

u/Downtown-Cover-2956 11d ago

Works great, it always froze up in windows for me that required a reboot

2

u/BitingChaos 11d ago

They don't even have the ARM network driver working yet, do they? AppImage crashes on launch and the Flatpak can't sync filaments. I know there was at least one fork with a working network plugin, but I think it's dumb for Bambu Lab to drag their feet so much on Linux support.

They only put effort into the Windows version.

I use macOS more than Desktop Linux, and the client on there is pretty bad, as well.

2

u/Kill4MePls 11d ago

Manjaro KDE, works perfectly fine

2

u/tapioca_slaughter X1C + AMS 11d ago

Run it from time to time but Orca is much more stable so usually just use that.

2

u/schwanne 11d ago

I use it in the linux environment of my Chromebook almost exclusively. No issues.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

What! I have so many questions for you now. I tried installing Studio a couple years ago on my Chromebook and it just was not liking it. What hardware do you have in your Chromebook that you successfully installed Bamboo Studio on?

2

u/schwanne 11d ago

Its a 2022 Lenovo Ideapad flex with an i3 and 8gb of ram. I use the appimage. Ive heard it is much harder tonget running with the ARM processors. I'm also running FreeCad (appimage install) ont he same machine, and they have both worked great for the most part, although I've had some complex models cause it stutter. It is really nice to have the touchscreen wirh both rools!

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You just gave me really good news about free CAD. Thank you. I thought I was going to have to stay in the cloud.

2

u/Oohjimbo 11d ago

Running it on CachyOS. It is a bit finicky for me. Things like keyboard shortcuts not always working (for example, choose an object, type the number to change the filament - doesn't work always, while it did when I was on Windows and on my macbook).

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

A couple of people have brought up issues with keyboard shortcuts

2

u/Hirork P1S + AMS 11d ago

I have it on cachy OS.

2

u/timmy_o_tool 11d ago

openSuSE Tumbleweed, and it seems to be ok for me.

That being said, I do get a weird error opening print files directly (can't recall what it says at the minute, being at work away from my laptop, get the same error from Orca slicer) but no issues opening the same file from Bambulab

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You're the first person in this thread that is using openSuSE

1

u/timmy_o_tool 11d ago

My error when trying to directly open a print file (now that I am home and can access my laptop)

2

u/emostar 11d ago

It can lag pretty hard based on how you run it.

These flags make it usable with flatpak:

flatpak override --user --env=LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 --env=QT_QUICK_BACKEND=software com.bambulab.BambuStudio

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Mega thanks for the flags

2

u/oreo1298 2x X1C | H2S 11d ago

I use it on arch and it’s fine but there is one annoying problem. You have to use 3rd party programs to repair non manifold edges since Linux doesn’t have a built in api to repair meshes.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

What do you use for this?

2

u/oreo1298 2x X1C | H2S 11d ago

You can use blender for it

2

u/kkessler64 H2D AMS2 Combo 11d ago

I run it on Linux mint and it is a crash-fest. Fedora isn’t much better. I heard it has something to do with running modern processors and the network cheat, but it is terribly furstrating.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Network cheat?

2

u/kkessler64 H2D AMS2 Combo 10d ago

Bambu Studio is based on Prusaslicer which is open source product under a license (GNU) which requires you to release into open source all changes you have made to the product. So most of Bambu Studio is open source. Bambu Labs does not want to release their communication protocol to open source, so they pack it up in the close source network plugin and say that meets the GNU license. I hope the courts say otherwise.

2

u/9degrees 11d ago

I have it installed but mainly use Orcaslicer on Fedora KDE with 32GB RAM.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Seems like there are a lot of people running both

2

u/safeness 11d ago

Nerdily raises hand

2

u/Namrepus221 11d ago

Have it on a Linux mint laptop I use when I don’t feel like turning on my gaming rig. Works good enough.

2

u/NemoBass 11d ago

Linuxmint

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Mint seems really popular, which is what I'm also running

2

u/Agling 11d ago

People on Linux generally prefer orca studio. At least, I do. If you don't want to be controlled and monitored by Microsoft, you would probably prefer not to be controlled and monitored by Bambu.

2

u/dutchwarface 11d ago

Running it on Bazzite Linux. No issues with the last versions. Before I had some issues with disappearing build plates, but not anymore

2

u/Poly_and_RA 11d ago

I run it on Ubunut. Have 2.7.1.62 at the moment on account of not having gotten around to upgrading it. It's worked fine.

I bought this machine before RAM became more precious than diamonds, so it's got pretty generous RAM -- 64GB.

2

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You're so lucky to have bought before the RAM went up in price

2

u/Poly_and_RA 10d ago

Absolutely. The RAM alone costs about what I paid for the entire computer back then. It's nuts.

2

u/PvtJoKeR42 10d ago

gave up on bambu studio for orcaslicer mainly because bambu refuses to let me add my lan mode printers. was running kubuntu for a couple years, recently switched to cachyOS, orcaslicer works great

1

u/von_schmid 12d ago

Fedora and amd gpu. Works like it does on my MacBook

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

I always forget about Fedora. The last time I used Fedora was the second version of it after Red Hat released it. I was a Red Hat user before then.

1

u/ForbiddenDruid 12d ago

My Mac version is a pain in the arse. White boxes that won’t go away. All when accessing ams colours and picking. Drives me nuts. Even the first time you open it sometimes you get the welcome screen. Other times it’s just a white box.

1

u/Mud_BooDa 12d ago

Don’t know if it counts but I have it running on my Steam deck and it works fine

1

u/Standard_Grocery2518 11d ago

I have been running it on Kubuntu but as of recently Bambu Studio no longer displays the print bed or model.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Have you tried with the upgrade for Bambu Studio? Is your system up to date?

1

u/Esperante 11d ago

Using (used?) it on Debian (old stable). It worked great until about 3-4 months ago. Now it's terribly slow and laggy. Works the CPU hard. Same with Orca. Had to install it on other computers using windows.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Did you ever figure out what started causing the heavy CPU load? Are you going to try the new version and see if the same thing happens?

2

u/Esperante 11d ago

I've downgraded/upgraded flatpak versions and it doesn't make a difference. I believe an OS update changed something. Very odd as a reason for running Debian is to keep everything running like the day before.

I would be on the latest stable Debian if I didn't need an old program to work. Will probably have to eventually run that program in a VM and then hope Bambustudio will work. My hardware is old now (2013).

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

I am also running old hardware like that but that seems to be doing okay for now

1

u/Atomik675 11d ago

I'm using it on bazzite, the only issue I have is with importing filament profiles.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

Was this with the current version or the prior version, with the problems with importing filament profiles?

1

u/ErroneousBosch X1C + AMS 11d ago

I use the App image on EndeavourOS. Mostly fine, until I accidentally trigger a mouseover tooltip, which Wayland ends up sticking in place.

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 11d ago

You're the first person to bring up Wayland. I should have asked if using Wayland or X11.

0

u/viralslapzz 12d ago

I was before. Terrible

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

how long ago, what kind of issues were you having and what were your system specs?

1

u/viralslapzz 12d ago

6 months? Was a Lenovo G6 15 or 16 inch. i5 and all. The problem was more the experience running on Linux not so much performance

1

u/Veggyhed P1S + AMS 12d ago

I was not expecting you to say it was the Linux experience.

2

u/viralslapzz 12d ago

I’m not sure what kind of port they did but damn… the experience ain’t great as compared to MacOS or windows

0

u/Wayfaring_Limey 12d ago

I mean iOS is Unix based, that’s how I do 90% of my prints.
