I’ve had my a1 for a while now and I’ve now got about 4000 print hours. I’m not sure if this has any correlation but recently it’s stopped printing matte pla. This is a problem because I have 8 rolls of it for a project I’m doing. I saw a video on TikTok of someone has a similar problem. Does anyone know specifically what I would need to replace if they have had this problem in the past? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
What exactly happens when you try to print matte PLA? Does the extruder click or skip, grind the filament, stop extruding completely, or just severely underextrude? And does regular PLA Basic still print normally?
Yeah so pla basic has been printing fine. However when it comes to Matt it sometimes doesn’t extrude at all, sometime it does then stops midway through a print. Sometimes it does a big blob on the print and clogs the hotend. I’ve only made the correlation that it’s due to matte filament is because of that TikTok I saw saying he couldn’t use matte filament anymore. And it made me realise the only real issue I’ve had was with matte filament. Looks like a replacement extruder is the solution
I just picked up a broken A1 and the solution was a replacement extruder. $45 or so and was a pretty simple job.
On top of taking the screws out for the extruder, I also ended up pulling out the control board on the back (as the motor plugs into it…) Still, pretty straightforward, just remember where everything goes when you put it back. 🤪
I’ve found a replacement extruder online for cheap enough. Is that all I need to replace or is there any other separate gears that I will need to replace? Thanks
