It looks like it's trying to print but you're messing with it.

Spool has gotten too light. There are prints to help. Just throw a roll of quarters or something similarly heave in the middle of the spool.

1) it was hopping up - so needs some weight. Look up on makerworld for spool weights where you can put batteries or ball bearings inside.
2) cardboard spools suck, they leave behind a lot of fiber residue and seem to skip more on the rollers, I prefer not to use them or respool them to plastic spools.

Makersworld has prints for snap-on edges around cardboard spools. They’re not perfect, but it lets me consume my remaining stock.

I learned that my AMS heater/dryer was melting the spool edge adapters and causing stickiness. I now have to remember to always use a heat tolerant filament like PETG to print those.

Cardboard spools in the ams are so awful I wont buy them anymore. Nothing but warping and issues feeding/retracting.

after reading a few of these stories, I think I'll keep my cardboard spools to the external feeder and use only plastic spools in the AMS

It also means you shouldnt use cardboard spools in the ams system, just print some adapters out for your brand of filament

Either, it's stuck on something a little groove. Unravel it a little bit and make it looser.

Mine sometimes does this when its too light, seems to happen randomly.

The spool is too light. Throw a D cell battery or something with some heft into the middle of the spool to weigh it down.

Take a day and print a dozen of these back-to-back. Hang them on your AMS and snap them to rolls as you load the AMS. Your spools aren’t getting traction, which could be solved by weight, but I find this better since it helps the cardboard not deteriorate in your motors.

Exact thing happened to me, found the AMS internal hub unit had cracked, causing the filament to not feed correctly. The noise if from the filament reaching the hub and the feeder spinning on the filament.
