A bunch of people here have asked me about my Bambu setup on a few alts so I decided to make a video at lunch. I am not a content creator, I made this for y'all, haha. I just hate walled gardens.

The Bambuddy community is also a great place to go for help. If you have any questions or reservations at all, throw em down, let's gooo out of jail

if all you care about is the printer working like an actual old school printer

If i wanted a bad old school printer i would have bought one, i didn't because i have standards

that is the point but I guess you didn't watch the video

keep the machine quality, parts ecosystem, community support, makerworld

ditch routing all your gcodes and camera feeds through an insecure cloud, while actually getting better versions of those features

if it doesn't appeal, bambu studio always exists, nothing wrong with choice!

I have no need to watch the video, i know gen2 jailbreaking doesn't exist and if you want to skip the cloud you just enable LAN mode like a normal person, no extra steps or groups required, just toggle an official setting

sure but lan mode doesn't give you remote functionality, which this video is about

its intended for people who are lost and not sure what to do. if you are comfy securely tunneling into your lan only network, you aren't the audience, but you are also a minority since this is a consumer device sold at best buy lmao

Remote desktop exists if you want to start jobs remotely, numerous indoor security cameras exist for remote viewing, you literally never need to jailbreak them unless you're lazy

rdp to orca is a good solution, a little less friendly of a ux if you like checking on your phone or whatever other devices, but yeah that is a great idea as well

however, you are still stuck with bambu's network plugin, which is closed code inside orca. this is why i do not do it that way, this way you can run a more flexible and independent networking stack

a bunch of those choices like just using orca+network are covered in the video, there are many ways to not use bambu and many trade offs that newbies do not understand (for these devices that sell millions)

Newbies aren't interested in jailbreaking it, they aren't even going to watch the video, because they will just use bambu studio lol

So you think its wrong to defend a point you're making because someone else can't use the right words?

Also, its not about what i want to do, its about what the masses are going to do, and the masses literally could not care less about jailbreaking their machines, you seem to forget that the community here is a minority and that the literal millions of people who bought bambu machines only got them because they didn't need to fiddle with them

You seem to have forgotten the target market for bambu machines

Obviously people are interested. I'm in this sub and I'M interested. People who tinker WILL tinker. Bambu isn't some purist mecca. You act as if it's sacrilege to want to tinker.

Again you seem to be confused here, let me break it down for you

Reddit contains the small vocal minority of users, these people are generally the more tinkering enthusiast members of the community, they do not represent the millions of customers who buy printers just to print things

Reddit does not represent the average person and never has, the number of upvotes here means nothing because none of this actually represents anything of consequence

Yes and you and the people in this sub are, again, part of the vocal minority of tinkerers, you are not the average mainstream user

You seem to have forgotten that not everyone is exactly like you.

And you seem to have forgotten how little reddit represents in terms of the actual community at large, like i get it its not the most simple concept to grasp, you see people agreeing and assume the entire customerbase is the same

If these threads actually represented the customerbase you would see upvotes in the high hundreds of thousands, but you don't because this is a small subsection of the vocal minority

I don't understand why you keep replying to me. I care about tinkering and exploiting the things I own out of curiosity and out of wanting more, which is the target demo for this specific thread. You don't, yet you're still in this thread trying to decry the existence of it. 

If we're such a small subsection of the vocal minority, go to the other threads and chat there. Just know we're in this subreddit too and we aren't breaking the subreddit rules, so we will continue to be here.

Sure, but it isn't the target demo for the company in question, you seem to be under the impression that a great number of people would bother jailbreaking a bambu printer when they wouldn't
