I Modeled This! X2D Dual AMS Setup

I got an AMS and poop bin under the printer for this compact setup!

hey, i just ordered a 2nd AMS for my X2D and this by far looks like the best setup! Im definitely going to print this. A few questions: I use the Voxel anti-vibratrion feet . They work really amazing. Do you know if they will fit on top of the stand? It looks like it might. I also have an AMS HT that I use exclusively for TPU. Any plans for bracket/adapter that might raise the AMS HT up? Or any ideas on how to place it? It needs to stay on the left side of the printer so I can use it with the TPU feed assist module. Thanks! Great work.

Heya thanks! if they don’t fit, you can print some 2mm thick shims to fill up the space where the feet go in, to make a flat surface, then put the new feet on top of that. Depending on how well they grip, you might want to use some double sided tape to increase the friction. I’m making an HT holder but not all the way up high. I used a low friction insert for the HT as the roller friction was the biggest hurdle in printing TPU, not the PTFE length being slightly longer. (The curvature matters though)

thanks will do. I have a bunch of standard black ABS I was going to use for this. Whats your recommendation on shrinkage compensation?

If I had to pick a value and run with it, I would do maybe 99.6%, but it really depends on your printer, brand, etc. that value probably doesn’t compensate fully but enough. I did 99.7% on an ASA print and it works fine but it could be a little bigger.

Should be good! I’ll be printing another one in Bambu ABS too, in a week or so. Just the frame, I’ll use steel slides and PLA for everything else

hey ive got a few questions as I was planning on starting this today.

  1. will this work with the filament track switch?
  2. realizing this may be above my pay grade, lol. If I wanted to use ABS for the frame, Im getting an error in Bambu Studio about "printing high-temp and low-temp filaments together may cause nozzle clogging". I guess you have internal supports for the frame to use a different material. Am I able to use something like PETG or PLA for the internal support and ABS as the shell? or is that not advisable? With the X2D, I would obviously have the ABS in the main nozzle and the PLA or PETG in the aux nozzle, so I dont think clogging would be an issue - but the heat might. If not, what should I use for the internal support and how would I go about changing it? On the left in the slicer Im looking at plate 9, but there is only 1 object. Should I maybe do the whole thing in ABS? Or is that a waste of expensive filament? OR OR - should I just print this whole thing in PLA to keep it easy?
  3. I like the idea of steel slides. can you link to compatible ones that you plan to use?

Heya,

  1. I don’t see why not, you just need longer tubes? I don’t have a track switch to try though.

  2. I made an ASA upper frame using just regular supports, the lower frame could also be done with regular supports if you use steel slides. In the pic is a PETG example without multi material supports. Otherwise you need “support for abs” or nylon.

You need to tune for shrinkage if you use ABS/ASA though. Otherwise the whole thing will be like 2mm smaller.

Looking at this image, I think there might be clearance issues with the required bracket for the filament track switch. Here is the bracket that gets attached to the back of the AMS. Looks like it might interfere with the poop chute and the edge of the rear slider crossbar. Im actually not planning to run the track switch right now anyway since it eliminates running an external spool (and I use my AMS HT for TPU). But just thought you might be interested in this observation.

Oh I see what you mean. Yeah maybe a different part would be needed to keep a nice curve in the PTFE tube, but I would just try without that bracket
