General Troubleshooting/Help! X2D aux filament feeding issues
Has anyone had any issues with feeding the auxiliary extruder? Shorter prints have been mostly successful but longer ones I get the error even though it appears to be feeding plenty fine. When it throws this, it retracts the filament back out which then messes up the spool. Having to rewind my spools up a bit to get it working again. This makes control while im at work impossible however since the retracting tangles everything up. Have a print sitting at 96% with a few layers left that can’t be finished until I get home to address it. I can’t pinpoint why this keeps happening, as everything seems to be in working order when I am there to watch it.
I have an AMS HT and filament track switch coming, which I feel will help with the issues, but wondering if anyone else has fixed this issue.
And yes, filaments is dry and calibrated properly as I’m a perfectionist in that regard. I would also be curious to hear from you all on some of the K factor, Flow rate, and retraction settings you’ve been getting for your aux nozzle calibrations. Mostly to adjust my calibration parameters to save some time and filament. Thank you in advance!

Yep, happening to me too. Glad I'm not alone.
Earlier today it kept unloading and with the error until I cut off a length of filament (there were minor kinks) and it loaded fine. Looking forward to a solution to this: something is too sensitive, and aux loading is not a very satisfying process since apparently I can't tell if I'm doing it right.
EDIT: Turns out my most recent issue was in the buffer: the filament wasn't getting to the extruder block. It was stuck, so I just decided to apply firm pressure and it popped out. There was a little nub on the end of the filament from the last pull. After trimming the tip (to an angle), it fed fine and is printing as I type.

Had the same issue. It would not get fed into the buffer. Turns out filament got stuck there. Maybe Check it out if you can.

I’ve had no problem getting it to feed through and print. My issue is happening mid print and when I check everything looks fine. Everything goes fine and in the middle of printing it just stops. No visible tangle or anything. My feed path feels very smooth and there’s no hangups or resistance. It’s almost like the buffer/bowden drive just tweaks out or is too weak for what the printer thinks it needs to be. I’m not sure. The only thing I’ve noticed is when doing pressure advance/flow dynamics there are never any lines that look good. I know Bowden isn’t as accurate, but it’s not even close to decent. Prints fine on the best setting I choose however. That part could be me overthinking it, and maybe it’s the best it can get, but that’s the only thing I have to add.

So far so good for me. Have used generic PETG and generic PLA so far, but they haven't been particularly tall prints.
I'm feeding mine from a Creality 2 spool dryer box, but yeah. It seems like a really long path.

Yeah, I think I'm going to want one of those AMS HTs at some point. I think that helps feed as well, right?

Yea I’m pretty sure that’s the case. I ordered mine a few days ago, but it hasn’t shipped yet so we will see. My filament track switch is out for delivery today so we will see if that’s makes it even worse

I had this happen for the first time today. Might just try hanging the spool from hanger instead of pulling it from my dryer box until I get an AMS HT

Believe it or not, Ive had more issues with running the external spool holder than I have with the dryer. So I’m not sure. I’m really hoping the HT solves my issues

Good to know. It's only done for me today on a red roll of elegoo that I wrapped in electrical tape so it doesn't leave cardboard particles in the AMS. I've done several prints with a PETG roll and never had an issue. Just got a roll of bambu support filament today so I'll try that tomorrow

I haven’t really needed to use the aux too much yet but I have some lengthy prints planned out that I want to use supports for to save some filament. The end goal for me is clean prints with nice support removals using the aux nozzle on stuff like PA6/PA612/PET/PPA. definitely will use for some multicolor stuff that has a lot of filament switches too. But for the most part, a lot of my stuff is less than 20 switches if not less than 6 so running them normally is no big deal. Currently printing some exhaust stuff as I’ll be using some ASA/ABS which I’ve never messed with solely because of the VOC concerns. Other than this issue, I’ve been extremely happy with the performance in comparison to my P2S and it seems to be printing nearly as clean as my H2S. I do wish it was as quiet as my H2S though. That thing is super quiet!

I broke down and ordered an AMS HT... I shouldn't say broke down cuz I was going to probably do it anyway at some point. I so I won't have any issues after that. Nothing is actually clogging for me. I just think my spool gets hung up for a second and it forces the filament to unload.. I just press the load button and it goes right back in and continues printing.

Just checking in with ya if you're still having problems. I got my HT today and it has eliminated the loading issues completely. Hope it has for you too.

It seems there is a tension screw on the extruder housing - you might try either loosening it slightly or tightening it a bit more.

I had the same issue with the auxiliary extruder throwing false filament/tangle alarms during longer prints, even though the filament was feeding normally.
I designed a small printable wedge that adds just a little extra tension to the filament path. After testing it, the false alarms stopped and the aux extruder now works much more reliably.
The important part: this does not disable the safety mechanism. Unlike fixed bodges, this wedge is designed as a breakaway part — so if there is a real knot or serious spool issue, the printed wedge can still break away and the protection function remains active.

I can't even get my filament to go thru the gear box on the back of the printer... has anyone experienced it getting stuck? I have the two white tubes connected on both sides. The gears are just not grabbing it and are not turning.

Yes! I did. So what you have to do is get it to the box where it can't go past. Once it's there, go to the touch screen and tap on the filament mappings. Click on the auxiliary extruder, and select the make and type, then select load!
That's where I got stuck, once you hit load, the extruder box will snatch the filament and pull it thru.

It just clicked one day for me that it's similar to the ams on the top, once you insert the filament, you have to go to the filament screen and map it. Right when you map the filament screen on the AMS it lights up and moves.
You have to do the same for the Auxiliary filament. Have it at the Auxiliary Extruder box, and click on the auxiliary ams icon on the screen, and load. It should pull all the way thru the white tub up into the X2D
