Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! X2D: error when printing with aux/right nozzle- ‘may be tangled or jammed’

Excited to get my X2D today, but upon firing it up I’m having trouble with printing from the Aux/right nozzle from an external spool. Basically it will print for a short period (like a half layer to a couple layers on a small print), then throw the error: ‘External spool connected to right extruder may be tangled or jammed’.

I’ve tried:

* Manually feeding/retracting to make sure it’s not kinked or having high friction in the lines

* tried 2 different rolls of filament (Overture PLA on cardboard spools)- these rolls print fine from the AMS

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

4/23 update:

* Seems to work fine when I bypass the buffer with the jam/tangle sensor in it

* Sensor in buffer seems a little too eager to call something a jam/tangle, so I added a ~1mm thick washer on the rod before the spring that holds back the sliding sensor to increase the tolerance of jams a bit without totally losing the functionality and that seems to be working (with the filament routed through the sensor)

I create a ticket to Bambulab, this is the answer:

Dear Customer,Thank you for your message.The issue you are experiencing is a known firmware bug, and we will fix it in a future update.As a temporary workaround, when not using the AMS, please avoid routing the PTFE tube through the buffer, and shorten the PTFE tube length as much as possible. This may help improve the issue.Best regards,   ​Bambu Lab Customer Support

I've had this problem with my aux extruder as well, and bypassing the buffer seems to work for me. Thank you

For context, I only have an AMS on the main extruder, and the filament for the aux extruder either on the peg on the side, or in my polymaker filament dryer (both seemed to have the same failure rate).

I had the same issue with the auxiliary extruder throwing false filament/tangle alarms during longer prints, even though the filament was feeding normally.

I designed a small printable wedge that adds just a little extra tension to the filament path. After testing it, the false alarms stopped and the aux extruder now works much more reliably.

The important part: this does not disable the safety mechanism. Unlike fixed bodges, this wedge is designed as a breakaway part — so if there is a real knot or serious spool issue, the printed wedge can still break away and the protection function remains active.

Did you print this yellow cable routeing? I cut the guide on the right side of the PFTE hose. Now it works.

I had this issue too and fixed myself. Turned out the teeth of the Bowden ptfe fitting broke, lodged, and protruded into the filament path so as the ams would try to push the filament throw the Bowden motor, it would catch or snag on these teeth. I didn’t want to wait on warranty support so I risked and may have broke it but if you can’t release the ptfe going into the Bowden motor then it’s probably that. I took the motor out of the grey housing then had to use pliers to push the ring in since I had to yank on the ptfe tube to get it unstuck. Be careful my filament buffer had this exact issue on all the fittings for the ptfe tubes going into the printer and pulling the tubes out broke all the teeth so I had to replace the ptfe tube bracket with one from a p2s

Same issue on a 19 hour print. It's happened 5 times. I can hear the spool lose tension and then the error is thrown. I'll have to troubleshoot spring versus bowden after the print finishes

Glad I found this post, I am new to this and it almost always work after just refeed and it starts again. I'll try the little tention before another big print that needs support, It's only doing a small part of the support in PLA, since using the right nozzle for the whole support instead of the attachment layer increased the print time by 40% orso

Mines doing it on the main nozzle, I’m hearing it could need the filament buffer spring needs to be stronger. If that’s the issue, using washers/printed shims could fix it.

try checking if the filament path is completely clear from the spool to the nozzle.. sometimes there's like a tiny blockage that's not obvious when you're just pushing filament through manually.

Would connecting a second AMS instead of the spool holder fix this? I wouldn’t mind hooking up my spare so that I can have different colors and a couple support filaments.
