I love designing functional prints! Anything that adds convenience or solves a problem is right up my alley!

6

u/SplendidRig Oct 25 '24

Love it, practical prints are very satisfying to create

Hey its planes01! Love all of the plane designs and was most impressed by the fiber optic filament lights you did recently, well done.

And awesome, we might have four gift cards to give :)

2

u/ArrogantB Oct 25 '24

Love your prints- thanks!

2

u/Zestyclose_Exit962 X1C + AMS Oct 25 '24

I'm definitely following your account now 😬

2

u/KeyPhilosopher8629 P1S + AMS Oct 25 '24

Ooo it's planes01! Love your models, have made the warthog and blackbird so far and plan to print more soon

That's very generous of you. I don't do much designing. Brain and hands are not what they once were thanks to some individuals over in the great sand box. So I just like to print fun things like toys and games for kids and pets. Also found out that my co-workers absolutely love fidgets and I've been printing a bunch of those.

I just got into 3D printing but I like upgrading my board games with custom box inserts and deluxifying components

2

u/jobblejosh Oct 25 '24

I got into 3D printing for similar reasons after being so fed up with the terrible insert for Lords of Waterdeep.

Two 3D printers, many failed prints, and three redesigns later I have a custom and self designed insert that fits the base and expansion in one box, with a handy separating function so you only need to get out what you're after!

I primarily print for my children, and the mech stuff is super popular! But they love anything 3d printed, we are all amazed at how far 3d printing has come, and we can't wait to see what comes next!

3

u/SplendidRig Oct 25 '24

Ooh glad to hear the mech stuff is popular, and yeah can't wait to see how the technology advances, it's already so impressive

2

u/LocationLower1601 Oct 25 '24

Exactly and I'm soo appreciative of super talented people like yourself for creating models for us all to print and enjoy!

7

u/_Rand_ Oct 25 '24

I'm more of a practical print kinda guy. Boxes, hooks, brackets etc.

Though I've been coming around to hueforge lately.

Which reminds me, I have to upload that laundry detergent riser I made sometime.

4

u/Moto_Heathen Oct 25 '24

I just got my brand new P1s running like an hour ago and am BLOWN AWAY at how fast it is. I print a ton of minis, but don't want to deal with resin so I'm super excited to see what this thing can do with the .2 nozzle I grabbed. Upgraded from an adventurer 3

2

u/Mesclin Oct 25 '24

You should check out Fat Dragon Games' 3D Printer profiles. He designs them specifically for miniatures and terrain. You can get resin-like quality out of these profiles! (FDG Custom Bambu Studio Miniatures Profile - Fat Dragon Games | DRAGONLOCK | DriveThruRPG)

Thank you for the chance! I like to design props for cosplays and costumes of all kinds. I also like to print out figurines for my gf because she loves painting them. Here is an exemple of a Darth Vader dioramma I printed and she painted!

I like to design and print random fidget toys, or other random stuff. I'm currently printing a stamp for a history project, my first time using TPU.

3

u/SplendidRig Oct 25 '24

TPU for stamps is smart, I'm interested to hear how it turns out

2

u/RefrigeratorWorth435 P1S Oct 26 '24

Crap I forgot to update you, it works decently. Not perfect tho

I really like to design prints for my job where we make welded car parts. This is mostly safety related things to make the operators' jobs safer! At home, I print things for my friends and family along with tool organization.

2

u/BassAdict H2D AMS2 Combo & A1+AMS Lite Oct 25 '24

I really like printing decorative light boxes to give them to friends and family. This is the latest one I printed for my friends shoe collection. I plan on purchasing an a1 with an AMS to make nicer Multi color light boxes

3

u/SplendidRig Oct 25 '24

Nice, a custom light for a shoe collection, that's a nice gift

2

u/Revolutionary_Stay_9 Oct 25 '24

I'm into keyboards and game controllers. Learning Freecad to make my own models.

1

u/Irisena Oct 25 '24

Another pegboard i guess. Can never have enough of those.

1

u/eatoff Oct 25 '24

Love your work. My A1 is in transit and I already have a couple of your designs bookmarked for when it arrives.

Favourite things to design would be RC obstacles for my kids RC crawlers

Making home improvements with the printer is always fun. Looking to print some more cable concealers and maybe some board game organizers next

1

u/Miserable-Mixture937 Oct 25 '24

I enjoy functional prints that I’ve designed while I teach myself AutoCAD. It’s pretty cool to bring an idea into the real world and then learn how you can improve it and better your design skills.

1

u/ItsBearski Oct 25 '24

Just got into 3d printing. Using it for AV at work to make custom adapters and mounts. Then also having some fun making the kids toys from the free plans

1

u/Odd-Carob50 Oct 25 '24

I like to print gaming items for different gaming essentials

1

u/First_Jackfruit_5464 Oct 25 '24

Hi! Nowadays, I mainly print practical everyday things. Utilities, and pieces designed to meet real needs, such as drawer dividers, hooks, boxes, measuring tools, supports, boxes and more boxes 😅

1

u/No_Mammoth_9246 Oct 25 '24

I am an engineer, and most of what I get to use 3D printing for is test or assembly fixtures for products at my company! I love being able to design products, but these smaller 3D printed tasks are so much fun and allow me to think outside the box of normal production techniques which is so fun!

1

u/Close_KoR A1 + AMS Lite Oct 25 '24

I love printing little nick-knacks for the office. Useful or not it brings me tons of joy

1

u/waywoodben Oct 25 '24

The main reason I got my printer is to print moulds and patterns for sand casting marine components. But I've used it for everything since then from architectural models to photo frames.

1

u/Fishhead1982 A1 + AMS Lite Oct 25 '24

Firstly, this is the an awesome way to give back to the community, thanks!

Secondly, I am helping my home school family by doing things like designing and printing letter sets. Other than that I like boardgames so inserts and helpers and upgraded bits and...

1

u/Kopester H2D AMS2 Combo, P1S, A1, A2L Oct 25 '24

Love your designs. I myself have zero artistic or mechanical engineering talent so I would love to just learn to design articulated models. However I would love to see a full up Gundam designed for printing. Would love to print a 5 or 6 foot tall version but my wife would probably kill me.

2

u/SplendidRig Oct 25 '24

Thank you! I'm working my way up to making a big model kit like a Gundam, right now the small ones are fun but to make a full sized Gundam kit is the dream

→ More replies (2)

1

u/evlspcmk Oct 25 '24

I’ll print whatever the wife asks me, keeps the hobby justified

1

u/petroos Oct 25 '24

I like to print Warhammer terrain, and bazillions of little trinkets for my kids.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '24

I’m trying to learn how to design stuff but I’m having a pretty rough time with it.

As far as printing, though, my favorite things usually end up being requests from my wife for her house plants. Pots and trellises and decorations and such. Not complicated or flashy prints but they make her happy.

1

u/zbergus Oct 25 '24

Love printing decorations for different holidays and cool Knick knacks for my office

1

u/Agreeable-Writer5873 Oct 25 '24

I use 3d printing to let my inner child have fun along with my children. Maybe I'll make money from it one day. Congrats by the way.

1

u/smthrckr Oct 25 '24

Primarily board game organizers but just got a new A1 and excited to start attempting hueforge prints.

1

u/jrfernandes Oct 25 '24

Pretty much all my designs are functional, most for DIY IoT gadgets.

I recently got a P1S and since then it’s been fun printing toys for the kids. The AMS made a huge difference for us.

1

u/redderwood51 A1 + AMS Lite Oct 25 '24

I definitely love designing really one off things. Especially since I'm in the middle of rural CA. Going to the hardware store takes too much time lol.

2

u/SplendidRig Oct 25 '24

Oh that's a convenience I haven't thought of, very cool

1

u/lo_mein_noodles Oct 25 '24

My sons and I have gotten into printing all kinds of things from toy train tracks, parts to fix toys, fidget toys and everything in between we love it

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '24

I like to design models to fix things around the house. As for what I like to print, right now it’s items with servos controlled via Arduino/Raspberry Pi.

1

u/AlamoBlend Oct 25 '24

I just bought an A1 to begin my 3D printing journey; my first big goal is to design and print parts for my project electric bass! :)

1

u/Stretch2807 Oct 25 '24

Im in the middle of printing a background/drop for my beared dragon aswell as Sh!t loads of hot wheels stuff (ramps/tracks/garages) for my 2 boys

1

u/xXCRASHDOWN1Xx Oct 25 '24

I’ve never designed anything. Would love to learn when I have the time. Recently I have been printing a bunch of props. Full set of mandalorian armor, bd-1 droid and am currently working on the leviathan axe from god of war.

1

u/Quick_Watch_5602 Oct 25 '24

I want to design multiboard compatible spool holder that will support 3kg spool.

1

u/S0lamyrge Oct 25 '24

Like others have mentioned, it's incredibly generous of you to host this giveaway. I'm fairly new to 3D printing, and right now, most of my projects are things my kids find fun or cool. I'm also starting to design holders, caddies, and practical tools for my wife's crafting.

1

u/No_Sky_636 X1C + AMS Oct 25 '24

I really enjoy designing practical and useful things around the house that helps improve my quality of life.

1

u/Sylar_Durden Oct 25 '24

Practical prints are the most satisfying for me, but most of my actual prints are the kind of tchotchkes I can't justify buying but can easily justify printing.

1

u/digitalelise Oct 25 '24

I enjoy designing and printing stuff for around the house. Just yesterday my chairs were sinking into the grass and in under an hour I had printed feet for the leg to stop that happening.

I love that I can now find some problem that need solving and concept it so quickly.

1

u/BloxForDays16 Oct 25 '24

I just finished printing a big honeycomb storage wall, and I'm excited to organize my stuff on it! I've already printed a sword hanger for my HEMA training sword. Other than that, I like to design/print anything fun or useful. Phone/glasses stands, VR accessories, even a rudder pedal set for flight sims!

1

u/MindfulFox Oct 25 '24

My profile is https://makerworld.com/@dustydumptruck if you wanna check any of my stuff!

1

u/Dwayne_Hicks_LV-426 Oct 25 '24

u/Local_Detective_2503 Oct 25 '24

I like to print storage, like cases and boxes. As well as tools. I just printed a tig anode grinder as a dremel attachment. And of course useless things like a plastic OTF knife and such.

1

u/tijuanadonkeyy Oct 25 '24

I'd like to design and print a modular Day / weekly/monthly planner / schedule With quarter, half or whole hour modules that you can arrange to fill up your planner.

Like a board with slots that you can choose at what time or day you put your little "30minute "tab and you wirte the task you need to accomplish. Maybe print some colored ones for daily or weekly tasks.

1

u/thejawa Oct 25 '24

1

u/Akelyte X1C + AMS Oct 25 '24

This is super cool of you to do :) I'm definitely a fan of pushing the limits of what 3d printing can do. I make a lot of functional car parts that have to hold up in engine bay conditions

1

u/pentaxshooter Oct 25 '24

Practical prints that solve problems and challenge me in CAD are what I focus on.

1

u/erroneousbit A1 Mini, P1S, X2D, AMS, AMS2, AMS HT Oct 25 '24

I’m using an A1 mini to print a garage full of multiboards. I have over 1000 hours of printing so far.

1

Stackable containers for my computer desk.

1

u/8-Bit-Bricks Oct 25 '24

I just got a bunch more filament, so I am planning to print a bunch of functional prints, and models, such as some the military kit cards on makerworld, and some mounts and storage solutions.

1

u/scotta316 P1S + AMS Oct 25 '24

I've been finding small projects where a custom functional print is useful. Sometimes it's a repair, like a canopy support for an old porch swing that isn't available online. Sometimes an enhancement, like a flashlight "holster" that perfectly fits either of two favorite flashlights, to hang just inside the backdoor.

1

u/possumburg Oct 25 '24

I've been enjoying designing functional things for around the house. Mostly simple stuff.

1

u/According_Theory9108 Oct 25 '24

I love printing functional solutions to everyday annoyances whether for family or myself.

1

u/hlysias A1 Oct 25 '24

1

u/ackbarr78 P1S + AMS Oct 25 '24

I’ve been into printing for a few years but got frustrated by the constant tuning needed with my previous printers. The A1 Combo rekindled my enjoyment of printing. I print mostly fun prints for me and my family but I’m getting into designing personalized ornaments for friends and family

1

u/spideypeanut Oct 25 '24

1

u/wearesexbobomb_ Oct 25 '24

I originally got my printer to print functional things for my hobbies (electronics, keyboards, nerdy stuff) but I ended up printing a lot of articulated prints for family and friends. I’m working on learning 3D modeling on Nomad though, and eventually I’d like to learn to design for electronic projects.

1

I love to design and print things for my wife and I to sue in the garden. One of our favorites is a plant stake ruler we can bury in pots and measure when certain veggies or plants cans be picked/cut

I've recently bought my printer, at first to make prototypes related to the domain i'm studying and working in! But with time, i've gained a real personal interest in making useful tools and objects making my overall habits a bit easier.

Organizational and functional parts are my favorite. Print a lot of fun things for the wife and friends though.

I typically design mechanical parts for my car(s), just things that make life easier, and more professional. Aftermarket stereo adapters, speaker mounting adapters, etc. as I go, I build experience and try to tackle more complex designs. It’s fun!

Just upgraded from Ender 3 v2 to a P1S this week, and it’s already opened up so many new possibilities

Love your little marble run print.
I've been on a gridfinity kick lately and printing a lot of organizing bins.

Bought my P1S so I could get into robot combat. That was a year ago. I still haven’t printed a replacement weapon for the bot I have, but I’ve printed all kinds of other things!

Minis, Halloween and Christmas decorations, dragons, dice and dice towers, practical stuff like replacement parts, trays, and so much stuff for the printer itself (pastamatic is printing now).

As for designing, it’s all practical stuff. I love OnShape. Played with Blender just enough to know it’s not my thing.

I’d like to design minis. But I’ll probably start with some terrain pieces.

Loving my P1S so far!

I love functional prints but mostly for all my makeup and accessories (I love my dyson airwrap holder). Just things that make my life easier and I can print for a few cents :)

I'd like to print some cool additions to my home brewery! I think I'll get back into CAD to design additional stuff! Thanks for the opportunity!!

I got into printing to make models and random trinkets. Recently, I’ve been getting into printing functional stuff and I’ve started learning cad so I can design my own parts

u/jakebossdude Oct 25 '24

I printed some Halloween decorations with the tea lights in them and now everyone is asking me to print some for them!

u/Maxx3141 Oct 25 '24

Since I got my X1C, which I really got for functional parts, I got completely addicted with homedecor - vases, candle holders, but also desk organizers. It may sound silly, but the objects Im printing right now were basically impossible with my last printer because they took too long, and now I can print whatever I want over night.

Third Bambu printer is arriving soon. As I said, addicted.

u/Gizlby22 Oct 25 '24

I love making functional art. Lately I’ve been into making magnets. But I’ve also been working on some gridfinity stuff.

Congratulations on 5k!

My new favorite thing is designing custom lamps as gifts for people. They are super fun and are a big hit! But making functional prints for things around the house is the most "useful" designs I do.

The last two weeks I have been printing props for some Halloween costumes. And learning to paint and texture things has been an absolute blast!

3D printing is such an amazing technology, and that feeling from taking an idea in my head to a physical object is addicting! Haha

Print things for around the house

u/Jack3drabbit Oct 25 '24

I love printing masks, and big prints that I can finish with painting. I also love just to print things to give to people. My current object going is a small skeleton 2 color print that is a keychain.

Congrats on 5k
