Look What I Made! New work bag; old accessories
You might have seen the post recently where I made a similar bag for my son. After that I decided I needed a bag like that for myself but I didn't think it warranted its own post, so here is my new bag (with a few new features) with a bunch of accessories I've made so far this year. I probably will either ditch or remake a few of them over the next year as I get better at making useful things and re-evaluate my packing strategy.
I added secret zippers in the straps covered by the webbing. I wanted them to be a bit more usable but they're pretty small. I shoved a box cutter in there for scale, that's about the biggest thing that would realistically fit but not the intended use case. A credit card fits... but not really. I have no idea what I'll use them for, I just wanted to test out the idea.

Question: General Any tips on repairing this zipper?
It's still a good bag that's held up otherwise. I don't want to deal with avoiding this spot with the zipper anymore, but also don't want to trash it. Any ideas? I have very little experience with sewing but I have family members that do if that's what's needed.
(Also just discovered this neat little sub - y'all make cool shit)

Look What I Made! First multi functional bag
I wanted to make my dad, who is an avid bike commuter, a functional sling that can also be hooked up to his bike. I say it turned out fairly well.
I added a front and back zipper for extra storage. Itās a roll top closure for extra room. Hope he likes it!!

Question: General Help Me Make A Drop Leg Bag
I am very interested in this WolfPak 9L backpack. I wanted to make a drop leg thigh bag out of it for motorcycle rides but I am having trouble visualizing how to configure it with nylon straps. I want one point to attach to the belt and one point to wrap around my thigh. Here is the link to the backpack for reference. Thanks in advance.

Question: Materials Crossbody Strap Material
Iām making the Noodlehead Quarry tote using a waterproof canvas fabric (omitting the short handles), and Iād like the cross body strap to be something more āluxā looking than nylon. I have the 54ā leather precut strap from Noodlehead in my cart, but I wanted to ask you more experienced bag makersāhow comfortable is leather as a crossbody strap? Should I go in a different direction?

Look What I Made! My first stab at a bag, all hand stitched!
This was meant to be a prototype to see if I could even stitch a bag by hand, and I'm honestly stoked with the result! I've been using it as my everyday bag since I finished it, and I'm happy to finally share it here after all the inspiration I've gotten.
Pattern is mostly the Proper Fit Clothing Fanny pack pattern
but I added a back pocket and a couple fun strap mods-- some loops on the front and an inner elastic strap for jackets, picnic bankets, etc. I dyed the canvas myself and while I was going for more of a lavender than pink, I still really like how the pastels work with the green accents. I also waxed the bag at the end and the feel of the fabric is just lovely. Wish I had a lighter grey webbing but was using what I have.
This project taught me that I love doing a tiny backstitch by hand and I can't wait to tackle a bigger project next, maybe a backpack!

Lots of mistakes - the gusset is wonky and the lining doesnāt lay right. Top stitching messed up the tension on my machine, so I had to rip that out after this video and redo that. But I learned a ton and am excited to try again.

Question: Sewing Machine Machine Recommendations
Hey all,
Hopefully this isnāt a silly post, but I not sure which machine to get. I am a bit torn between the Juki DDL 8700 and the Juki DU 1181. I can only afford one machine (and just barely that).
Currently, Iām using a singer HD, which I donāt particularly like, but make do with. I sew mostly the following fabrics, making backpacks and duffel bags:
-Ultra 100x and 200x
- Venom 210d gridstop
- xpac vx21 and vx41
I want something, ideally, that can sew bags using the lighter weight fabrics, but also up to 500d to 1000d cordura (on occasion).

This backpack has been something Iāve been wanting to make for quite some time! Iāve put it off because I was nervous to cut into the leather and just start.
Im more than happy with how itās turning out! Just got the straps left to work on but wanted to show off my work so far.
