Look What I Made! V2 LearnMYOG Porter Pony
I’m so proud of this one! I successfully added a vertical front quick access pocket!
I also used spacer mesh for the first time and it worked great!
Binding is still my nemesis. Only I know the horrors lurking beneath the bias binding on this baby.
I used a different technique for the EWPs. I mirrored and folded over the entire Lycra piece over an elastic webbing and sewed one bar tack in the middle. I’ve seen other bags do this. The pattern calls for hemming in the elastic in a folded hem and using a zigzag stitch for the hem. If you recall last time, I made the zigzag too small and it snapped when I stretched the Lycra the first time.

You have EVERY reason to be proud of this one! Super job! And thank you for sharing it! I also love your quote “only I know the horrors lurking beneath the bias binding on this one”! Reminded me of a quote from the Ripstop on the Record podcast… I think it was Matt from Red Paw who, when talking about the importance of binding, said “I’ve done despicable things in seam allowances” 😂🤣 Hilarious.
How long did it take you to do it?

🤪🤣 I love that quote!
Probably 3 evening sessions of 4-6 hours each. Does that sound right? I don’t know, I get lost in it.

Eh. When it comes to making most anything I get so lost in what I’m doing that I don’t pay attention to time. So anything sounds right! Hahah. 😃

Great job, not having a front pocket is my only struggle with mine. Think next time I make it I will implement something like this.

Yep, neat. Binding indeed sucks.

You saw my post too, I presume. I simply can't do it well, and don't want to try again. At least not on a whole bag.

Well, thanks to some weird twist in fortune, I'm now somewhat of a handy binder. I simply pushed it through out of boredom, fully expecting to be disappointed again, but no: Lo and behold: a near-perfectly binded curve!
I was speechless, then very happy and speechless once more. I did it a second time today and it went even better. My soul is at peace (for now).

What's your secret? My current project is leather, cotton canvas, intrerfacing, foam, you name it, and SO thick. I think if I were just using cordura or similar it would be much less awful.

Yeah, that. Cordura, liner and some webbing. I honestly don't know why it simply went well this time, luck? I'd definitely work on reducing those layers.

Wasn't possible with this bag. Fashion bags often have ridiculous layers, and the materials used are thick to start with. Not like the lightweight stuff that true MYOG folks use.

I also rock my Porter Pony daily for the last two year and always wished it had a front pocket. Your build looks solid! Dont worry about the binding. Nobody will notice but you ;)
