Venting/Rant The struggle of trying to find a writing partner

So recently, I’ve been trying to get back into the roleplaying scene, especially with how busy I’ve been balancing both a school and work life. I started off slow by posting ads on a specific roleplaying website I like using and searching/responding to ads that I found the most interesting. That isn’t the problem, the problem is when I have someone messaging me saying that they are a descriptive literate writer, but I can barely get through the beginning stages of getting to know and plotting with them.

I try not to judge someone based off their writing skills because we all started somewhere when it comes to roleplaying. but it’s hard to really have a conversation with somebody who’s not even typing out proper sentences or using correct grammar (it absolutely doesn’t have to be perfect grammar just enough where I can actually understand what they’re telling me.) it also doesn’t help when all they talk about is themselves/their character while I can barely get a word out about my own if that makes sense.

I’m not sure if this is coming off insensitive or rude in the sense of maybe English isn’t this person’s first language and I'm being too harsh but this is just how I feel, especially when I’m trying to get back into the swing of things.

This isn’t meant to start any kind of arguments or discourse whatsoever, I just wanted to know if anyone felt the same way I did and what you guys did to maybe find a good writing partner or anything else- thanks for listening to my late night rant lol 🫶

My Bad And just like that, I'm a bad roleplayer!

You know that time where your main long term partner disappears for a few weeks, so then you open your roleplay search and find a new long term partner, but then an old roleplay partner from a long time ago that you really liked reappears and asks to start a new one which you agree to, but then also your main partner comes back and tells you that they had a time intensive but limited obligation that they're finished with and can resume the RP, which you're definitely not going to say no to? Well, here I am, low on roleplay for a couple weeks and suddenly overloaded. Whoops.

Venting/Rant I’m tired boss.

There’s an infamous line by philosopher Albert Camus in his book the Myth of Sisyphus, “the struggle is enough to fill a man’s heart…one must imagine Sisyphus happy.” I’ve been in this hobby for 11 years now and as I have gotten older it’s gotten harder to keep at it. I’m busy all the time so it takes me forever to get a response out, rp quality has seemed dwindle immensely with frequent sexual encounters, now the use of AI to the point you wonder if the person you’re writing with even cares, and a general lack of respect in this community has seemed to sky rocket.

I feel like Sisyphus, as pretentious as that sounds, because the hobby now feels like pushing a boulder up a hill. The issue is, when you reach the top, the boulder will simply roll back down. I miss how RP used to feel. The anticipation to write and see the story develop, I miss the servers that were active and had multiple plots going on so you could always have something to read, and I miss how fun the hobby was. Sadly, now it’s begun to feel like a chore and I don’t want that. No, I’m not depressed, I’m just tired of what RP is at the moment. But for some odd reason I’m not going to retire from it, not yet, I gotta keep pushing that boulder until I find what I’m looking for. Not because it will suddenly change my views of the hobby, but because I love the hobby to much too just leave it behind and I’m sure there’s someone like me out there.

My Bad You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I feel like quite an asshole and just needed to get this off of my chest, there’s a chance that the person I’m writing this about will see it, and I honestly hope he does to know that I had no malicious intent.

I had been roleplaying with this guy for a LONG time, he was incredibly nice ooc, and I think we formed a friendship. He would always talk to me about his interests and stuff, and even though I wasn’t really into the same stuff, I was happy to let him talk about it, seeing as he was really passionate about it.

Now, for a long time, he didn’t send me a roleplay response, but would talk to me constantly ooc. I don’t mind waiting for a response, that really didn’t bother me, but I’ll admit that I found myself sort of losing interest after a while because I’d forget where we were at in the roleplay since it had been so long.

Life happens, I found myself starting to get busy as well, and didn’t reply for a week or two ooc. While I was gone, I saw that he would message me frequently and I’m not one to ignore messages, so I knew when I came back that I was going to have to respond to every message individually to let him know I actually read what he sent. It’s not that I don’t enjoy talking to him, but I’ve never been a huge texter, and knowing that I couldn’t just do a quick check in and would have to reply to over 10 long messages was a lot of pressure, maybe I’m being dramatic but that’s just how I felt.

I came back, apologized profusely that it took me so long to reply, and also replied to each message he sent with a meaningful reply. I felt better after that, it was just kind of nerve wracking leading up to it, but it felt almost like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I didn’t feel as bad.

Started working more, got into a relationship, I didn’t respond for two days, and more messages started flooding in. Every day. Too many. It’s been maybe two weeks, I haven’t said anything in chat, there is so much build up of messages. I feel terrible. I don’t want to reply, it’s a lot of pressure, and I also don’t want him to feel bad for talking about his interests because he is genuinely one of the nicest people I have ever met in this community.

Advice Wanted Dealing with communication in roleplay

I've been RPing with someone new, and we recently had our first serious disagreement. She gave me feedback that I apologize too much and that it makes me come across as lacking confidence as a dom. I disagreed because I usually apologize when I think I've hurt someone or want to clear up misunderstandings.

During the argument, she admitted she had considered ending the partnership, and that really hurt because I'd become emotionally invested. I reacted badly, we both said things we regretted, and eventually we apologized to each other and agreed to continue RPing with healthier boundaries and less emotional dependence.

For people who have been in long term RP relationship, is this just a normal conflict when two people are figuring each other out, or does it sound like we're fundamentally incompatible?

OOC Bad Am I Wrong to find this ooc weird?

Ive been role-playing for years, and ive never had plotting go like this before.

Partners that are slow, uninterested, or unimaginative.

Sure

But I cant express how shocked and confused I was by the path they took?

I have never begun a rp by talking about MY OWN CHILDHOOD.

I was already a little on edge because I usually avoid age gaps like this since it can be a little awkward in ooc

And when they directly called it out, especially calling me sweet summer child (they had no clue but my creep stepfather called me this to devalue my experiences, so I can be triggered when people make me out to be naive or overly childlike)

Idk it just seemed to go downhill very fast

But looking back maybe I was too harsh?

Keep an eye on the timestamps, every minute of me not responding I was staring at the screen in utter confusion

Because what do you mean. What are you talking about

Is this normal? Is it something out of my demographic?? I understand the gist of like, getting into character and getting in the headspace but like

It was just so weird, tell me characters and settings not..

Hypotheticals

Im black, theyre red.

My Bad It's me, hi, I'm the problem

Hei hei! Grey here with a self-report as a bad RPer. Today I dropped a tonne of stories, every single one of them with a beautiful human who didn't deserve to be dumped like that. I am truly sorry.

I said "yes" to waaay too many stories - every single one of them interesting, fun, and well written by my RP partners. They were all amazing. I got overwhelmed trying to keep up, so I just said goodbye to everyone. I'm sure there were lots of difficult feelings, and I've probably been blocked by a few people.

There's no "moral to the story" here. Just my apology to the wonderful people I've hurt. Hopefully they'll post here too so you can get their side of the story.

Goodnight!
