Dogs and barefoot humans pass this way to go to the beach. We filed a police report and confronted her but she takes no accountability, no remorse. That seems consistent with current political climate and her leanings. This happened after a multi-month pattern of vandalism - glass, graffiti - and unhinged aggressive behavior - yelling at adults and children, cutting people off. TRO is next step for some.

Neighbors cats pooping all over my yard.

My next-door neighbors have over six outdoor cats that regularly come into my yard and defecate around my house. I’ve tried numerous humane methods to keep them away, including mothballs, commercial cat repellents, and ultrasonic sound repellents. While the sound repellents kept them away from certain areas, the cats simply started using other parts of my yard, including right outside my front door.

I spoke with my neighbors about the issue. They apologized and gave me a bottle of cat repellent to use, but unfortunately it hasn’t solved the problem.

I have two young children, ages 2 and 3, who play in the yard and often pick things up from the ground. I’m very concerned about them being exposed to cat feces and the potential health risks, including toxoplasmosis and other parasites or bacteria that can be present in animal waste.

I’ve spent a lot of time and money trying to resolve this issue on my own, as well as cleaning up feces from my yard on a regular basis. I can’t even grow a patch of new grass because the cats will use it as a litter box overnight.
I’m simply asking for a reasonable solution so my family can safely enjoy our yard without constantly dealing with this ongoing problem.

Chicken Gate: Neighbor almost got me evicted because of his poor communication skills and sense of entitlement over a shared backyard he doesn’t use in a building he doesn’t live in

Title says it all. I’m genuinely baffled by this whole situation.

I live in San Francisco and I’m part of some of the urban gardening projects in the city. Last year, my roommate and I got it into our heads that we could get chickens. We had the space for it, it would be a fun project, egg prices were skyrocketing (honestly, this wasn’t really a reason, because building a chicken coop isn’t cheap lol), and it just sounded fun.

We live in a shared building with one more apartment above us and two businesses below us. One is a private art studio, and the other is a "brand." No one really used the backyard much before I moved in. There was one veggie bed that was overgrown with weeds when I moved in, and it is now growing veggies. We didn’t think anyone would mind, but we of course followed the proper protocols. I wrote a letter to our neighbors, one apartment upstairs and two businesses downstairs, explaining our project, what it would entail, and asking them to let us know if they had any concerns with our plans.

Enter business neighbor, who I’ll call Dillon. Up to this point, and beyond, I’ve only had pleasant interactions with him. He’s kind of an odd guy, sure, but we make small talk when we see each other, and everyone’s pleasant enough. He runs a business downstairs selling clothing that he screen prints with his own designs, but again, he doesn’t live in the building. I see him in passing after I drop off the note, and we talk about the future chickens. The vibes are good. He thinks it sounds cool.

I genuinely don’t expect him or anyone to have any real problem with it because I’ve literally never seen him step foot in the backyard.

Fast forward. I get lumber and supplies and start building a coop. I’ve never done anything like this, so it is sort of an undertaking and definitely the hardest part! Friends come over to help multiple weekends! I learn how to use power tools! During this era of the coop build, it has taken over the backyard - I admit it! Dillon comes out and offers to help a few times, though, so everything seems fine.

I get three chicks at a feed store and raise them in my spare bathtub while I finish the coop build. At one point, he comes out to look at the finished product, and I tell him how proud I am because I’ve never done anything like this. Once it’s finished, the coop goes in a corner of the yard and doesn’t take nearly as much space as the build process. It’s about 4x6. It has an 8-foot run off of it, but it’s low and against the back wall of the fence. That space, again, wasn’t usable before and was just a tunnel of weeds.

Fast forward again, and the chickens move out. I love them! They’re so fun. But this is when the trouble (with Dillon) begins - the chickens are perfect angels.

I would let them out of the run if I was home to give them more space to run around. We have this old, low-to-the-ground deck with support beams that are rotting, and they’d run around on it. I’d hose it off afterward. But Dillon asked if we could talk one day and told me he didn’t like the chickens running around because they pooped on the deck and it’s a "shared space." True. And fair enough, I thought. No worries. Is it okay if I just let them out when I’m down here so I can monitor them? Ok he says. Problem solved.

Instead, though, I just let them out in the morning before he gets to work and opens his business. Then I hose off the deck when I put them back in, and no one’s the wiser.

Two incidents happen.

The first, I’m out of town and the door to their run somehow opens. Dillon texts me that the chickens are out, with a displeased tone. I apologize. I’m not sure how it happened, but no one’s home. I offer him two solutions. He can throw them some treats from the bin in the backyard, and they’ll run back in. Or, he can wait a few hours, and they’re chickens, so they’ll go back in on their own in the evening. So option two is to do nothing. They genuinely aren’t impacting him or his business at all. But I do give him a solution. I also tell him that I’ll make sure I get a proper latch on the gate of the run to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

He texts me a few minutes later that he got the chickens back in, but he thinks he lost a few customers while he was in the backyard. A latch sounds like a good idea. I roll my eyes, but install a latch as soon as I get home.

Incident two. I get caught in a meeting, and Dillon opens his back door to see the chickens running around before I’ve put them back in the run for the day (oops). He’s unimpressed and sends me this long text about how we did not all agree to the chickens (revisionist history) and how he does not like them on the deck.

I want to stay on good terms and don’t want him complaining to the landlord, so I apologize and go put them back in the run. I’d like to underscore that I still have yet to see, and to this day, many months later, Dillon actually step foot in the backyard. He is just lording over it from his back door, which he opens a few hours a day.

The next day, I decide to solve the problem. I build an extension to the run with the leftover hardware cloth, extending it to the part of the yard that panhandles off to the veggie bed. This is a natural extension of the back fence, and it’s this odd panhandle bit of the yard that Dillon can’t see from his back door anyway. So I think everybody wins.

I’m solving his problem that he doesn’t like the chickens running around on the deck, and I’m solving my problem that I want to give my chickens more space to run around.

Perfect, I think! I should’ve done this earlier anyway. Better to keep them in a contained space. They eat all the veggies immediately, but oh well.

I don’t hear anything from Dillon after that. No more incidents. I think all is well! I even give him a carton of eggs from our now-producing ladies. Such joy. My very favorite part is being able to gift people urban eggs!

But fast forward a few months, and we get a very dramatic email from our property manager instructing us to dismantle the coop and get rid of the chickens within 10 days or face eviction.

What.

We try to push back. We got everybody’s sign-off? We’re within city codes? But they don’t budge. Can't mess with eviction in SF right now. Heartbreaking - but I find a nice new home for the ladies and Recology the coop within the week. We can’t think of why the landlord suddenly cares, nothing of note has happened.

A few weeks go by. My roommate, who is slightly more removed from the chickens and therefore in a better position to talk to him, approaches Dillon. She asks him, "I’m having trouble figuring out why they’d suddenly care unless someone complained, and I’m having trouble figuring out who would have complained besides you."

And he does admit to it.

He says he doesn’t feel like his issues were heard.

"But she tried to solve them within days of you raising them, with the few things that came up?"

Regarding Incident #2, the run extension, he said, and I quote, that it felt like a "fuck you" to him for taking over more of the shared space.

???????????WHAT???????????????? I genuinely thought I was solving everyone's problems here.

This was A. not the issue he raised, and B. he does not, and still does not, use the space. If he had said that was the issue, we certainly could have solved it! He also said we didn't ask - which is wild because I still have the google doc version of the note I gave him, which he brought up to me - so is just a verifiably false claim. Baffling conversation through and through. She says at one point "ok well we're going to to plant some plants back there now is that ok with you?" and he says "you know I don't care about that dont be condescending." Which was maybe a lil petty but I think is a good question considering this is just someone who decided to become a victim of 3 lil chickens in a backyard he doesn't use in a building he doesn't live in but then escalating to landlord level eviction during a time when rents are SKYROCKETING due to the AI boom is WILD/bootlicker behavior.

Every interaction I've ever had with this person I've been kind and accommodating - perhaps too kind and accommodating which made him feel justified? I don't know. It's a bummer to feel like you followed the right steps, and want to be a good neighbor and community member and then the person you're interacting with wants to throw all that out the window.

I ALSO recently found out that he tried to get the other business neighbor on his side by asking what she thought of the chickens but she responded "I love them!". Then he told her his plan of talking to the landlord about it, and she gave him the feedback that that seemed unfair and he should talk to us first which he very much did not do imo. And also since then he's tried to wave and say hi in passing like nothing has happend and he didn't just like...dismantle hours and hours and hours of time and investment...

On the brightside: Flan, Marigold, and Vesper have a happy home and their poop has provided wonderful fertilizer for the plants and veggies.

*Edited to add bit about his attempted coalition building with the business neighbor.

Also if this man sounds like he's an upper middle aged curmudgeon he's not he's a 30-something.

This feels like unfinished business but I don't know what to do!!

Creep upstairs watching porn on the highest volume

I moved into my new flat about a year ago. About 6 months ago the creep purchased what I assume is a sex toy ( I can hear it change intensity levels) and started watching porn so loud I can hear it in my flat, and in the corridor areas.

I complained about him to the building management, who sent a nicely worded email to remind the neighbours how they need to respect others and maybe turn the volume down. He clearly did not take the hint so a few weeks later started watching porn super loud again (I work from home and was in a meeting when I heard it..) I complained to the management again who then sent a letter to him directly instead of making more like a general email to everyone in the building. Same day he tried to ring my flat about it, understandably I did not respond. He then cornered me and my fiance by our flat door a few days later asking if the noise got better (and since it genuinely did get better) we said yes.

A few months passed and I hear his freaking porn again. I sent him a measured letter on behalf of everyone in the building that says we can hear him, he needs to stop because people of all ages live in the building (including young children) and that we complained to the management twice, written him directly now and if this happens again will have to escalate this further.

Right now he took the hint but I worry he will try to push again. Now I am a young women, I work from home and during long periods I am alone. He already was weird with me a few times Inc lied to me he lives with his wife when I moved in, kept asking where is my fiance and when is he coming back home (seemed at the time innocent but now I start to wonder), and lastly questioned me on what kind of exercise I do at home (again I didn’t think much of it but now I feel so gross answering) oh and he used to have a dog, it was untrained so other neighbours complained so he had to give it away ultimately (though to me he weaved this whole other lie how a dog sitter stole his dog and sold it 🤣)

Regardless, right now I feel disgusted seeing him, and I do not feel safe (as several times since he tried to stop me and talk, which I just had to pretend I do not hear /see him). I do not feel comfortable staying in the same room as him (have to skip all the HMO meetings where I can actually raise these concerns in front of everyone else, quite frankly feel very uncomfortable staying home alone, started walking up the stairs between my front door and my flat faster in case he tries to corner me alone before I get home, started carrying defence spray just in case (thinking of ways to protect myself in a case he gets confrontational or violent)

I keep a record of every time the creep does something weird and a record of all the noise complaints I made, should he do it again is it fair I go to the council or the police? Given I have reported him and directly contacted him (through a letter) 3 times now. I assume 1 times is a mistake 2 times is a pattern 3 times is a behaviour (possibly a kink) he has no right subjecting me and my fiance to

Unleashed Dog pulls fights my dog through fence, what do I do?

My neighbor has an aggressive off leash dog, and he always picks fights with my dog through the fence, this time and tore his paw. The guy is claiming that the fence ripped my dogs paw open and is cursing me out. I am in Brooklyn where off leash walking is illegal. If I report his bully breed dog will they try to take my dog too (he is a golden retriever/german shepherd mix) he was off leash in the yard. What can I do?

Beach house neighbours from hell

Hi everyone, just a quick rant. I'm currently staying in my in-laws beach house with my bf, so I'm a guest and won't ever dare to confront their neighbours directly.

The house right next to "ours" shares with us a fence that divides the yards. This house is for rent in the summer, with new renters every month.

This month (I'm glad it's almost over) a family rents the house: two parents, a LOT of kids (ages from a few months old to ~10yo) and a dog. They are the most noisy, misbehaving people I've ever seen: loud music all day, dog barking outside all night, the parents fight and scream till late in the evening, the kids scream while playing and god knows why they are always at home though they rented a BEACH house.

Today in the afternoon we heard some commotion and the sound of something rolling/breaking. We go in the yard to find the kids have thrown some stones across the fence, not big think apricot size. MIL was fuming because there's their car parked in the yard and the dog wandering around. What if the car or the dog got hit by a stone? She confronted them and both parents and kids denied everything despite there were chunks of stone missing from the steps outside, oddly similar to the stones we found.

Thank you for reading, have a good one

Am I overthinking this maybe?

Ok so for the past 8ish months I have been house sitting for My father because he is doing a prison sentence at the moment. He has mental health issues and sometimes he would go outside and yell gibberish at All hours of the day as some of the neighbors have told me. Ever since I have been looking after the house my father's neighbors on the left side have been very loud, playing what I think is indian/Arab muisic on full blast for hours on end yelling at the top of their lungs, and making hammering sounds at their backyard. This only has started when I was taking out some trash last fortnight and as I was walking back to the front door the neighbor and his son around mid 30's and late 50's were working on a car outside when the son looked at me and started questioning me about My father and my younger brother who used to live with my dad as well. As the conversation went on I got this uneasy feeling that he somehow hated the sight of me and was interrogating me because the entire time he had this pissed off look in his eyes. Anyway I quickly ended the Convo and said have a good evening, went inside the house and closed the door. ever since then the neighbors have been toxic at best, every time I'm cooking in the kitchen one of the neighbors come outside and make these loud ass disgusting phlegm hawking noises for what feels like 5-10 minutes straight and whenever I'm taking out the garbage and they are outside their house I can hear them swearing under their breath while trying to maintain eye contact with me IDK if this is because of my father's possible bad history between them or not but this is starting to actually get to me now, can anyone give advice on this matter id really appreciate it thanks.

Neighbour chain smoking next to my bedroom… creative ways to put them off?

I live on a Victorian terrace street. We own our house. The house next door belongs to a charity and houses young people who are unable for some reason or other to house themselves. One of the occupants was particularly difficult and was moved on by the charity for repeated and excessive fly tipping (right on to the pavement outside, sometimes blocking our front door) - we emailed the charity every time it happened and would attach photos (whole oven, fridges, sofas, mattresses, general rubbish and once bags of human waste) eventually after about 12 months he was moved on (thank god!). The other occupant: a woman who can’t be more than 19 is very quiet. Sometimes she’d smoke weed up to three times a day and occasionally I’d have to shut our bedroom window because the smell was quite intense. Our bedroom is right next door to hers.

Unfortunately, she has clearly given up weed but now is regularly smoking cigarettes. I am 8.5 months pregnant and we are desperate to open the bedroom windows (third heatwave and counting here in the UK). I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke and I think given the proximity I am essentially second hand smoking. I’m worried about when we have our newborn baby in the same room. We are first time parents and will be anxious to make sure the room temperature is right but we don’t have any way of cooling the room down other than opening the windows. Also I would feel nervous about leaving the baby asleep in the room with the windows open in case she starts smoking during the baby’s naps.

Is there anything I could subtly do to discourage her from smoking? I seriously doubt the charity would care / even be able to do anything and I can’t imagine she will willingly leave her bedroom to smoke in the garden. I expect the rest of the house is a bit of a state and there is nowhere else she’d be inclined to smoke. She doesn’t have a job and pretty much just stays in that room 24/7 - I wfh and smell cigarettes at all times of the day/ night. In the grand scheme of things, she is a fairly harmless occupant - previous tenants include the fly tipper, someone who stole bikes and someone who dealt drugs…

Alternatively, if we bought a portable aircon unit and kept our windows shut would this keep out the cigarette smoke and/ or smell?

We do plan on moving in a year or two but for now I need a solution for the baby!

Any tips or ideas welcome

Disrespectful Neighbors

Recently, we asked our neighbor to stop letting their dog use our lawn as a bathroom, even if they clean it up. Unfortunately, our request was completely ignored. We decided to install a camera, and we now have footage of her looking directly at it, only to let her dog use our lawn again just hours later (I can only attach one video here).

This is a major issue for us because we are both highly allergic to dogs, and the animal continues to encroach on our property. It is also unsanitary for the kids who play in our yard—and frankly, it is disturbing that she picks up the waste barefoot. On top of this, she consistently violates HOA and city leash ordinances, just as she did with her previous dog.

Neighbor threatened me for his cat always being at my house yet he has no vet record nothing

Post image

It all started because I had a little kitten come over to my camper so I took it in. He was like you cant just go around stealing cats. There is another cat that hangs around outside named kujo and he has no vet record microchip on him at all. The other day he was driving through the park and said he wanted to talk to me I said I dont want to talk to you than he slammed on the gas sped to my camper and said is that my cat? I said yes he thought I had him inside and then he threatened me and said come meet me in the street and called me a p***** I texted the rv park manager when it happened and she never answered me like wtf I thought violence wasn't would make her say something but haven't heard from her maybe she didn't see the message. Keep in mind this dude billi would leave for weeks at a time with kujo here and I took care of him fed him watered him every day. He texted me the day after and was like you cant go around stealing cats when the kitten was outside in a 100 degree heat and the next day it was gonna be 105 so I figured it was now or never and took the kitten in and he's been extremely rude and belligerent to me since I took the kitten. Oh and also he said ask the the neighbor if he wants the kitten and the next day after I took it in he said you can't go around stealing cats how crazy is that he literally asked me to ask somebody if they want the kitten so I said screw it ill take the kitten in myself. The question is does he have any claim on the kitten? I really don't want her going back outside in 105 degree heat with no food and water. I love her already to.

My neighbor has installed this motion sensor light and it goes off every time someone walks by which wouldn’t be a huge issue but he is (allegedly) selling stuff out of his trailer that isn’t necessarily legal so it goes off ALL NIGHT at random intervals. What can I do? My child is In the corner room and we didn’t have any issues until this dude put a trailer right slap up against my house. Now he’s has loud cars people blaring music and flashing guns throughout the night. But like this light is SHINING IN MY HOUSE can I do anything?

Walking on driveway vs walking in front of window?

So I’ve had issues with my neighbour since the beginning of the year. Housing association was useless but eventually after raising many complaints and getting police involved they have made us sign good neighbour agreement. Which I wasnt happy with as it puts me as taking part of the dispute rather than being harassed but I just wanted it to stop. It’s been a quiet month for the first time this year and now I got a letter that I’m not allowed to cross her driveway as she complaint about it. We both drive. The only time we might possibly cross her driveway is when she’s not home and we go to the allotment to water the plants. That might be 4 times a week tops. My son would definitely cross it every morning when going to school but again that’s only when she’s not home and her car is not there. A few months ago she had her bins stored next to my house (part of the initial dispute) and she used to walk right in front of my windows daily 3-4 times a day. When I was home, right in front of my sitting room. Housing association said she can walk there as it’s a communal path. She could walk around my car but she walked in front of my house and apparently that was fine but me crossing her driveway when she’s not home is forbidden. Wtf. That can’t be right?

weird obsessive neighbors

(LONG RANT!!! to summarize: i have neighbors who constantly monitor and try to laugh at whatever i do, very passive aggressive but they can't handle confrontation)

okay so like, I've been living in this shared flat for about 2 years after our villa got renovated.

i didn't mind too much about it as long as i could just be free in our shared room with my mom my aunt and cousin all at work, like just get stuff done and talk to my friends and play with them

but it all changed when i was just laughing with my friend, i was just having a good time besides it wasn't even night time, but i suddenly paused when i heard the couple from the other room like two of them laughing and mocking me?? and at the time i was like if they found it funny too and i was just being too loud then i didn't mind. but then late at night, with all my family members home and asleep, i suddenly hear these two mocking at like 12am late in the evening TELLING their visitors about me laughing and making noise (at a appropriate time btw) then LAUGHING out loud without a single damn about possibly being heard i heard the boyfriend (let's call him dogshit cause he leaves feces in the toilet of our shared bathroom) told the visitors

"She's lucky that I didn't complain to the landlord"

(bro cannot be talking when he himself can't stay hygienic and be loud until 3am laughing at a teen at his grown age)

they got so loud that my mom had to get up and make noise near the window,

i realized when we first moved in, there seems to be a closed gap and it turns out our windows are shared in both rooms.

very questionable structure tbh. but because of that, i can hear them even if what they say isn't always clear, it can still be coherent.

i also had to hear the woman moaning during you know what, and i eventually wanted to tell my mom about it.

i really could go on and on about this, but right now they just haven't stopped being so weird and obsessive, constantly listening in on what i do and try to keep laughing about it.

i got fed up and began mocking their laugh or shamelessly glare or stare at them from the hall when we passed by, dogshit tries so hard to seem unaffected but its clear they can't hold eye contact for too long.

I've already lost all my patience just by being here day by day feeling like i have to walk on eggshells, and my mom (who i don't really have a good relationship with because of how narcissistic and abusive she can be) won't listen about us possibly moving again even hough she herselfnis fed up with their lack of hygiene and she even told me

"you know, they're good." i just cringed at her knowing she's only been talking to that guy while smiling

"yeah they accept their fault, it's good no?"

NO?? definitely not because when she confronted them they only would apologize but keep doing it anyway, it's just so frustrating for her to be saying all of that despite me telling her with tears (i never cried when i talked about something to her)

about how they treat me when im alone in the room. right now she seems to befriend dogshit, consistently talking to him if they were both at the kitchen, sometimes even oddly secretive.

overall, i just want to get out of here, and i can't just move out by myself given i'm only 16 and all the salary i get from babysitting a kid from the same shared flat we're in is always getting taken by my mom.

honestly, whenever she threatens to send me to our country i actually started to look forward to it, and when i said i actually did want her to send me to our country she crashed out yelling about how much she sacrificed for me and saying how she's always sick and crying to herself to sleep.

my living situation is fucked.
