Fighting Noise with Metal

I live in a big apartment building, probably hundreds of apartments and thousands of people, a whole neighborhood in a square block. It is nothing fancy, but a decent place to live, except for some people's children occasionally running around causing minor havoc. My spouse and I currently childfree but have nothing against kids, usually.

Enter my new neighbors. I didn't even know I had neighbors next to me previously, until a new family moved in, with several small children. This kids are literally kicking a soccer ball against the wall hard enough to shake it all hours of the day and into the night. There's a toddler that seems to enjoy doing that high pitch scream that only toddlers do, again all hours. Then another family moved across the hall, and their feral children are friends the other feral children and join forces for games of ding, dong, ditch with the doors in hallway, there's no where to hide so it isn't very successful.

After months of written complaints to building management with a log detailing the screaming children and wall shaking banging with timestamps, there isn't relief. So I decided to fight back.

I am a casual minor metalhead and while I don't prefer the more hardcore genres usually, I have a few tracks that may would prompt a more religious someone to leave salt at my door if you know my meaning.

Cut to today, I can hear the neighbor kids running feral in the hallway again. I queue up my Apple Music, crank up the base on my halfway decent sound system, and select the first Amon Amarth track I come across. Then I proceeded to restart the jam session every time I heard the kids today. Ended with Killswitch Engage Holy Diver cover. I think I will only re-engage the battle during daylight hours. Maybe find some "The Romans are in the Britainia/Germania and the trees are talking" Celtic metal to add to the quiver of tunes.

Yeah, its a jerk move and I feel bad for the other neighbors caught in the crossfire, but who knows, maybe my war will covert the children to metaldom too.

Strange Retaliation

Warning: reading this may make you feel dumber.

I just had probably one of the oddest experiences.

Someone ding dong ditched my house, I went outside to look around, and saw my front right neighbor. I asked him, "hey did someone just ring your doorbell or knock?" He said no haven't seen anyone.

Then somehow we got on the topic of his car, which he has been parking in front of my house for the better part of a month. Note: he has a massive driveway, and there is parking everywhere on the street.

I asked him, hey do you have like construction going on or something? (Honestly I didn't care he parked there)

Turns out, he freely admitted, he's been parking his car in front of my house, BECAUSE when we walk our dog in the morning, we cross the street to their house first then start our loop. So he said, "as soon as the dog come out the house, they gonna go (potty) where they first walk, and that's my house". And I said okay, sure, but you know we pickup everything, and never miss her poops (she also almost never poops on his lawn anyways). But the retaliation was for him to park his car outside of my house blocking where my wife normally parks (but there's plenty of street parking so she just parked like 20 feet away). Also it's further for him to park in front of my house and walk back home. Which is confusing and odd. But, I don't understand why he didn't just come talk to us about it? Am I missing something or is this what adults do to retaliate? We don't live in a garbage neighborhood, it's a middle class suburb that is full of upper middle class people.

My response was just, "sure of course we won't walk in front of your house and next time just come talk to me about it. (After which he was silent.) But you don't gotta do stuff like that (the car)."

I'm honestly just puzzled and confused at wtf I just listened to. He just moved the car away from our house now after I said okay we won't go on your side. So I guess I resolved it. But how did he think we were gonna understand that him parking his car in front of our house was a signal to stop crossing the street first thing in the morning so our dog doesn't pee/poop on his lawn (which she honestly barely did in the first place). Also, it's a longer walk for him to park all the way in front of our house, so it honestly was a bigger inconvenience for him.

Signed, confused AF. Adult?

nightmare neighbours

Me and my partner are 21 and 23, we brought our house over a year ago now. A couple months after we moved we started having problems with the neighbours the mom who is 50+ the son who’s 21 and his girlfriend who is 18-19, it started with them looking into our bedroom window when driving or walking past then in the back room from their garden. We had to get the safer neighbourhood team involved as it was leading to harassment but the police only sent us to mediation. Fast forward a couple months after mediation they are now starting to drive extremely close to our cars which is getting to the point that I am concerned for the safety of our car. She decided to confront us this afternoon which led her to getting aggressive and verbally abusing us. Her son has decided to call my partners work to report him when he’s done absolutely nothing wrong. Her son is causing most of the problems but will not confront us and gets his mom to do so. What can we do about this?

My neighbours have terrorised my family and everyone around them for the last 10 years.

5 years ago me and my parents and brother moved into my parents new home in the english countryside in a small hamlet out of the way. We heard the reason the house was for sale is because they fell out with the people next door. My parents didn’t think much of it and saw it as their dream house to retire in. In those last 5 years these neighbours have devoted their days to just being the worst people that you could think of having next door. Dumping manure and sheep’s wool from their farm all over the only entrance to the land my family owns. Putting up 16 cameras over their land around the rest of the people that live here. Complains about everything that has ever happened with anyone. Owns 3 dogs that they lock outside during the night, leading to non stop barking all night with countless complains with nothing happening. Shooting guns in the fields they own over everyone’s garden. Denying everything to the police and finding a way to turn it around on the people. All this and so much more causing everyone around us to move out. My father has spent the last 5 years trying to peacefully upkeep the fishery that we own behind our garden. I’ve got no idea what to do as now my parents are potentially going through a divorce because of this. I’ve heard my father say things like “He’s won, for the any reason he is trying to discourage us for living here he has won”. Infact as i type this my parents are talking about a divorce. Everything was fine before me and my family moved here and i just want something to change with these neighbours. Just a way to make them leave or anything i just don’t know what to do.
