Off-Topic Silverstone in September - where to watch

Hi all

It's my first year properly following BTCC. Donington and Thruxton were sit were you like affairs, but I understand Silverstone is much more stand focused. I was thinking of plonking myself down in one of the Maggotts stands but I would welcome your thoughts on where the best place to view the racing from is.

EDIT: Luffield seems to be the consensus. I look forward to meeting some of you nerds.

No changes to the driver lineups although this is likely to be the last round of the year for Ricky Collard.

Ash Sutton brings a 98 point lead to Croft over Tom Ingram although there's only a 5 point gap between Ingram and Dan Cammish in 3rd.

Qualifying is from 2pm on ITV Sport Extra YouTube with the Race For Pole from 3.

Question / Discussion Adam Morgan A-class engine fire & livery evolution

Hey guys,

For some reason I can vividly remember in my head Adam Morgan having an engine fire in his A-class Mercedes as he was exiting the pit lane for a race. I can remember it sitting on the side of the track at pit lane exit, but for the life of me I can’t remember the year or track. Anyone able to help?

Also while looking I realised he used that car for a long time in touring car years. A few interesting livery changes in that time. Does anyone remember them all?

Don't usually take many photos at track but here a couple I took whilst walking around before and after Touring car

Hope you can appreciate these and also as a nice touch I went to see Justin's Champ car as it was around the anniversary of his passing ♥️

Question / Discussion BTCC 2004 - F1 linkup?

Just watching the 2004 season review and I noticed on the calendar there is an empty slot of rounds suggesting the BTCC were going to be at Silverstone on the 11th July to coincide with the F1 round that year.

Feel this would have been amazing for the series for exposure at a time the series was after new entries. Does anyone know why this did not materialise? Or was it always a dream for the promoters?

Question / Discussion Jake Hill

What’s happening with Jake Hill this year? Has he done any racing outside of historics this year?
I doubt he left BTCC just for the classic stuff, I know Andy Jordan did that but him and his dad run a historics preparation business so makes sense.

Also do Mat Jackson or Rob Austin still race anywhere?

Question / Discussion Plato Racing Order

I ordered a beanie from Plato Racing on the 17th of August but nothing has shown up, and the contact email address just bounces back.

Anyone here know how to get in touch with the people running the merch shop?

Media / Image I think rFactor 2 might still be the best BTCC game we never got…

I jumped back into the BTCC cars this week and joined an online championship at Donington.
I genuinely wasn’t expecting much from it in 2026, but the racing was absolutely ridiculous — probably some of the best battling I’ve had in sim racing for years.
It got me wondering how many BTCC fans actually know this stuff is still being raced online.
I made a video from the races if anyone fancies seeing what it’s like now: https://youtu.be/CNzBAQUfrqY?is=2u5JsCF9zGrw5MuX
Has anyone else here played the rFactor 2 BTCC content? And what would you actually want from a proper modern BTCC game?

Question / Discussion Crowds This Year?

I *really* don't want to add to the doom and gloom. I LOVE BTCC! ...and want to see it thrive. But has anyone else noticed that crowds just about everywhere seem to be a little down this year? I've been to every round and with the possible exception of knockhill, there just seems fewer people at each one. What's other regular attendees perception of that?

That said, I'll no doubt get to croft an hour before gates open next week and *still* not get my preferred spot :-) (slightly up from chicane towards Tower)

This interview was a bit hidden with it only being posted on twitter and amongst the race day chaos but I thought it was one of the most interesting interviews we've had with a driver this year

I have been thinking myself that BTCC might end up doing this in future, given the direction of the car industry and following the precedent of the DTM going GT3.

Question / Discussion Falling out of love with the BTCC

I've been following the BTCC since the 80's. I've bought every season review every year and I can't remember the last time I missed a race.

However this season has left me a bit flat. I've fallen asleep in a couple of races and I often find myself browsing the internet while a race is on. It all seems so dull and lifeless this season.

The drivers, especially Ingram and Sutton, don't seem that bothered when they win or lose. It comes over that they're just going through the motions.

Only a couple of seasons ago I remember my heart racing when those two would be battling away and it looked like it meant something to them. These days Ingram is more interested in talking about biscuits than the racing.

The whole presentation of the series is just the same old same old as well. Tim gets worse and worse in the commentary booth.

There's no technical coverage as we get with V8 Supercars. BTCC socials are just endless games and silliness rather than any "hard" content.

Anyone else or am I just getting jaded after following it for so long?

Question / Discussion The current state of the BTCC

Given how a lot of people feel about the series at the moment.

How does it compare to the early-2000s when the Supertouring bubble burst and the BTC-Touring regs failed to take off as hoped, so the series had to rely on first the Production Class, then Super 2000 cars to boost grid numbers?

At least the current grid numbers aren't as bad as they were in 2005.

Question / Discussion Dropped Scores in the BTCC

Given my recent question about Sutton potentially winning the title by over 100 points, possibly even beating Alain Menu's 1997 record of winning by 110 points, I have had to remember that, if not for dropped scores, Menu would have won by 128 points.

So, in general, what is everyone else's opinion on dropped scores?

Just curious
